- Scrappy’s first blizzard was a bit chillier than expected! Despite researching and selecting a heater that was advertised to operate at up to 16,000 feet, the heater failed to cooperate at just about 9,000 feet. 😕 Definitely a bummer but I ain’t complaining! Thanks to a few layers and some good bedding, I was just alright sleeping in 13°F (-10°C) temps. 👍

Try loosening the cap on the heater fuel tank. Sometimes they can get a vacuum in the tank if the caps blocked.
Or drill a small hole and put a piece of tube just through the cap to vent.

I am afraid that your problem may be the stabilizer that you added to the diesel fuel. This may have left a coating in the combustion chamber. Specifically, the additive you used contains up to 5% naphthalene in it. I would suggest you watch this series on these little heaters for additional information as this might help diagnose the issue. th-cam.com/video/tvwmU_CcmGI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-v6CEF_1gzn5PUXM Episode 5 details the use of high sulfur content kerosene to address the freezing issue (high sulfur for lubricity of the pump piston). I would recommend usage at about 80:20 and it will be just fine with the temperatures you are at. Episodes 14 and 15 give you an idea of what a strip-down of the unit might look like. Apparently, your small unit is more difficult to pull apart. Also, check your exhaust is not plugged up. Depending on how you ran the lines, it may be building up fluid (diesel). Good luck.
If you heading through Northern Utah skip the resorts near SLC and hit Powder Mountain near Ogden. Way better snow and small town feel! You won't be sorry!
You can use Kerosene in these heaters instead of diesel. It'll burn cleaner and cause less soot and issues.
Also, from experience DO NOT run it while driving in cold temperatures, it caused mine to completely soot up to the point where it would just spew white smoke and not run properly at all

Good news about SLC, there are 6 top tier resorts within 45 mins drive that are all epic… Alta/Bird, Brighton/Solitude, PC, and Snsowbasin. But the true gem is Powder Mountain.

Check the fuel filter on the heater. Couldn’t be clogged. That or air locked would be my guess on the heater.
You might need to get one of those low temperature sleeping bag. They come in various temps. That will keep you more comfortable than your comforter?

Hey Dude regarding your water tank. If you wrap that thing and reflect IX it won’t freeze over. Also, unless you really sit on that diesel heater a 12 V or USB heated blanket is quite a bit easier. Great for sleeping not so great for heating up the area like if you’re gonna cook in there or whatever or spend some time, but I love my USB blanket, keeps it just warm enough.

Awesome place up there I moved to Vail when I was 18 to run lifts. I thought I would never leave there, that area is such a fun place and everyone is very nice.
Another excellent video! I doubt you'll see this but you should paint the inside of the house! That bare wood will soak up moisture quickly and even before it starts to rot will just look bad. Ask me how I know! It's a cheap and easy way to protect that investment!

The coolest spot to visit in Washington it’s Metaline Falls on Father’s Day weekend. They do this big Bigfoot festival. Super cool to be there. I think you would enjoy it. Lots of hiking opportunities.
