Hello James, East Germany is a real hotspot for scheduled working narrow gauge steam and the scenic countryside adds to the charm of these wonderful little railways. I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride.

IHi Tim! It's finally here, the video recording from the front, from the Fichtelbergbahn. Great Tim, has never existed before👍. Best regards from Hans and Cheers.🍻🇦🇹
Hello Hans, this was the last of the railways we visited around Dresden, the return trip was even better because the sun was behind the train. The next East German railway we visited features plenty of snow. I'll be off to Hungary, the Czech republic and Austria in the middle of this month where hopefully I will be able to shoot more driver's eye videos. Thanks for links. Cheers 🍺. Tim.
Tim, I watch many of your videos on my big screen TV. Pleaase add the track gauge to your description, i.e. gauge 2 Ft. etc. Helps us to know the size of the equipment and zero in on the ones we like to watch. I love the scale of 2 ft track gauge locomoties. Thanks Ron
I've added this to the video description "Track Gauge 750 mm ( 2 ft 5 1/2 inches)". It's something I do usually include as standard in the description, I must have suffered a blonde moment when typing it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, Cheers. Tim.
It was novel to visit real steam worked railways, operating timetabled services. I'm looking forward to uploading more videos from this tour to Saxony.
Continental heritage railways don't go in much for hanging baskets, gas lights, repro posters and that sort of...stuff, do they? Maybe that's no bad thing.
It was January, which may explain the lack of hanging baskets. These railways are 365 day a year operations running scheduled passenger trains. It's hard to know whether or not to refer to them as heritage Railways, although they are clearly tourist railways. I imagine they look much as they did 50 years ago, maybe I need to book a summer trip to see if the hanging baskets do come out. However you look at them, they are well worth visiting.
Unterwiesenthal and Unterneudorf, two "Claytons" stations! - The station you have when you haven't got a station! The "Claytons" term comes from an early-1980s(or late 1970s) TV ad for a brand of non-alcoholic beverage called "Claytons" and promoted as *the drink you have when you're not having a drink!* These two..... er..... stations(?) have nothing more than signage to identify themselves. They have no ticket office or waiting rooms, not even so much as a platform.
@@Timsvideochannel1 I think it(Claytons) was an Australia-only product, but the gag caught on and the brand-name became a byword for anything that wasn't what it was supposed to be.
There are also a lot of Spruce forests in the area. "Fichtelbergbahn" was chosen to relaunch the railway under new ownership as it better described the area served. Wasn't "Pine" also a band name for cleaning products?
@@Timsvideochannel1 More specific, the name was chosen due to Oberwiesenthal (the final stop) being situated at the bottom of the Fichtelberg mountain (1214 m), the highest in Saxony and third in Germany. Its name however comes frome the spruce trees in the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) area along the border to Czechia. ;-)

Hi Bob, like you I believe in free speech and I regularly comment on videos and some comments do get removed, I suspect it's the channels that remove them rather than TH-cam and some of those channels do report commentators to TH-cam knowing that TH-cam can't possibly check every comment and are likely to just issue a ban for a period of time. Not sure about the three strikes and your out threat, although that is the case for creators who receive 3 copyright claims. I'm glad you are back and that you enjoyed he ride. Cheers 🍺.Tim.
Lovely ! What pretty countryside . . . all in human scale. Your video, is a wonderful travel-log where the narration is best left unsaid.
Hello, Saxony is like Wales, beautiful scenery and a hotspot for steam operated narrow gauge railways. I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride.
Eine wunderbare Eisenbahnstrecke in einer ebenso wunderbaren Landschaft. Sehr schönes Video. Danke fürs Hochladen.👍👍👍👍👍

Excellent as always!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊.
1:35 when i see the narrow gauge next to the modern and normal one (to me) i always wonder why the train dosent just fall over. Its tho tiny 😄
I think the same, but I can assure you that narrow gauge trains are perfectly safe, even when everyone moves to one side.
Good video , my friend
Thank you 😊.

Saxony have the most narrow gauge railways in Germany with regular timetables (4) and some tourist lines. (trains on some Weekends)

As someone whose house is just about visible in the video 😉 i can tell you the noise does get old sometimes. Always a pretty sight tho
You live in a beautiful part of the world, it must be nice to see and hear the trains.
Brilliant

@neilforbes416 same in australia and how does the claytons joke goes the blocke says and now we can all gets some sleep
Thanks for that Neil, I've learned something new today, although I don't think we've ever had "Claytons" in the UK.
