    Agree completely with your premise here. I was on a Breitling forum and the talk was all "Breitling should be more like Rolex, less models, harder to get, etc" but when you ask "so, you're happy that watches you want are discontinued? you'll never see new models - ever? you'll have to schmooze ADs just to be allowed to buy a watch?" they quickly change their tune. Rolex folk are happy with how they are treated and they are welcome to it - I prefer getting discounts, getting the watches I want and seeing new stuff every so often.

      Fact: Breitling is readily available because nobody wants them. The store in Geneva is full of watches but no customers. Rolex store is full of customers but no watches. Rolex's problem is although they produce 1 million watches a year, many millions more dream to own one, most never will. I must say however that the current Breitling CEO George Kern is doing an outstanding job, and the brand is slowly climbing back from its latest near death experience.

      @@Jungleman707 thats not really true - of the 800,000 odd rolexes made approximately 200000 are highly desireable and waitlisted - the other 600,000 lady datejusts etc are foisted on ADs and end up at grey market dealers in change for the steel sports models they then sell for double retail. Want a rolex - fine walk in, offer to buy a cellini and you'll get one for 40% off.

    I think the problem is GS has gone the Omega route. Too many variants, too many special editions / dials. They need to stop cashing in with shiny new things, and just focus on building icons like the snowflake and peacock. That’s why Rolex is where they are, classic models that have been continuously improved but retain the design of what they always were.

    • @duncanchiu3659
      @duncanchiu3659 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Never understand how too many variants is a bad thing...seems like a complaint just for the sake of complaining because more variants = something for everyone. Yes I would prefer if they had less LEs but there's nothing wrong with LEs other than they are harder to get which sucks but aren't rolexes even harder to get currently? So that point in comparison is pretty mute. GS does have a focus and that's in their case designs. They just group their collections in a difficult to remember way. Like who really knows what's in GS's sport vs elegance vs heritage collections? Most people just self categorize their pieces into high beat, SD etc or by their case design 44GS etc etc

      @@duncanchiu3659 its a very legitimate point. One of the key points of Rolex's success is continuous and minor refinement to established icons vs completely revamping the line up year after year. It helps with recognition and re-sale and not feeling like you wasted a bundle on a fad..like spending ton on last year's hot fashion clothing that you couldn't wear without being laughed at this year. GS is objectively superior in fit/finish/technology but Rolex has the firm grip on marketing and creating perception of prestige.

    I purchased this exact sbgr321 GS this last winter. I wanted a rolex and there was simply none available in a retail setting. Also to get that deep blue color with a date just in stainless steel in a rolex with a blue dial is another level of difficulty even when rolexes are in stock. They do exist in a date just in stainless steel but i have only seen them on the secondary market. It may be that they make so few of them in stainless steel in order to market you into a two tone for a date just witch was going to be very expensive for me. Or they simply just dont make anymore date just in stainless steel. Either way it was going to be a fools errand to get one because of the popularity and high price i was going to have to pay. The fact that grand seiko dosent have that kind of notoriety and popularity yet is exactly why i was able to walk into my nearest watches of Switzerland store and and walk out with one. The same store whoes rolex display case was empty except for the display models. I wanted a rolex but now that i have had my sbgr321 for a couple of months im absolutely happy i didn't get a Rolex. I would have had to pay for me an almost uncomfortable amount because they are just too popular via the successful marketing. I saved a lot of money amd and got a watch in exactly my favorite color and size thats looks absolutely stunning and high level accuracy for an automatic. Just an excellent choice all around. I feel im getting $ 7000 worth of value for $ 5,200. at least when you factor in a oyster perpetual without date starting at $ 5,600 and a bit less accurate than this one. And that is being generous as i consider a oyster perpetual stainless steel to be a 5 to 7 thousand dollar watch. So that is why i say 7000 value in my opinion. Of course grand Seiko would never get away with charging those prices for exactly the reasons you covered in this video. Absolutely loving my sbgr 321 GS. Great video 👍

    • @matthewharwood9496
      @matthewharwood9496 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AzulJ2022 i would highly recommend grand Seiko after owning for one year. The watch runs acording to spec with no issues. I only could afford one luxury watch on this level. My other choices were rolex in a similar configuration and omega. Was getting close to getting a rolex and saw this GS and absolutely fell in love with the dial and sparkling indicies. The finishing on the case is absolutely top of the line. I saved a couple of thousand over a comparable Rolex. I was wondering when i purchased if i was going to regret choosing GS over rolex and after one year. The answer is no. I am absolutely satisfied with this particular model. If i had purchased a rolex it would have been more because it was a rolex vs buying what i like for myself. It is a tiny bit more accurate in terms of being rated at +5-3 which it doesn't deviate much feom with temperature changes. Not much of a difference than rolex in terms of accuracy but considering that i saved a couple thousand and got just as good if not arguably better for a watch which i paid not quite $5,500 US for at retail. In my opinion this would be a higher priced watch in another more popular brand considering the quality and savings. The only criticism i have is the standard band that comes on the watch. Its a good looking band but has no micro adjustment which is not an issue for me because 3 links puts it perfectly on my wrist but if the micro adjustment matters to you then i would recommend other bands as i have several different bands i wear with the watch to change the look and have a little fun with bands and different colors. Currently i have a metal band from strapcode on the watch which i really like with soms micro adjustment if i need it, and divers clasp. Yes absolutely i can recommend this now as a luxery watch purchase after one year. 👍

    I don't speculate. That's why l cashed out from both the financial and property market. We are to blame for the high rolex prices bec we treat it like the stock market. And, alike the stock market, the higher it goes, the harder it falls.
    The prices of GS will go up whether you like it or not. It's hard to speculate on GS, bec the numbers are too limited for mass speculation. And, they spent on innovations rather than marketing. After a hard lesson, people will look for values again and shy away from speculation. This is certain.

Most people are not aware of how great the calibre 7016 is. Patek only managed to catch up on this 20+ years later! As for finishing, the Grandmaster Phillipe Dufour said that it is not found in the swiss.

    The production volume of mass market brands is much to high for Grand Seiko’s current level of detail in their watch making. Increasing that 20x to match Rolex volume would compromise this quality. Even a Rolex may reduce their volume as they shift more towards gold cases, away from steel in the coming years. Solid gold GS on leather is way overpriced compared to a solid gold Rolex like the Cellini. Even on the SS models, the markers and hands of a Rolex are white gold and even have platinum coated numbers on their professional watch bezels.
