    I liked butterfly so much when I was a kid that it became my stroke in competitions. Many people say it's the most difficult one but I think breastroke is worse lol. Probably because I suck at it, big time, I'm slow af. For those learning how to swim butterfly properly just follow your body needs, if you're doing something wrong you'll notice immediately cause it will slow you down a lot. Remember your butt has to go up almost showing on the surface and your hands should NEVER touch each other. Then you kick and pull strongly. Perfection comes after you get to swim at least 25m without dying.

      Very true, I agree. Plus when I'm rested and I have energy after I warm up, I love it when I give it my all in butterfly.. Full throttle feels soooo good xD

      if you haven't perfected the dolphin kick alone yet, definitely do that first before butterfly. If you've got a solid dolphin under control, it will all be easier. Think "head, hips, feet" - that's the order that parts of your body should breach the surface when performing butterfly. ("Hips" is the part people usually miss.) If you watch the video with this in mind, you'll see that pattern of head, hips, feet breaking the surface of the water.

    I have swimming lessons and the people around me has high expectations in me..I can do the other strokes properly but the butterfly stroke..I just can't do it and I've been stressing everyday thinking about it because when I pull my arms I can only pull it underwater..(if you know what I mean) I'm 12 years old and the people around me are 6-8 well I'll try to do this later and hopefully I can do the butterfly stroke. Thanks for this video.

    When I do a 50m butterfly swim, I finish the first 25m without feeling like I am going to die but after that I want to go to hell.

      You also may need to focus on relaxing more during the last 25m. The psychological effect of knowing you've already done a 1/2 lap but still have another 1/2 lap to go can make your whole body tense which wastes a lot of energy and makes you less flexible (and therefore less hydrodynamic). To achieve this, make sure your hands/wrists are relaxed as they enter the water - if they are relaxed it promotes relaxation throughout your whole body. Same goes for having tension in your hands/wrists, unfortunately.

    all four of these didn't specify how to capture more water. i did heard doing a key hole shape helps. and i can do butterfly, not entirely correct but able to move forward while doing the key hole shape. Anyone can tell me if im doing this right?

    More exhausting that the other swimtypes, but I would argue that breaststroke is the toughest to master.

      they signed up the good swimmers first then selected anybody they could to fill in the spaces

      Dhriti Sundar Ghosh /This allows for greater surface area allowing for more propulsion. If you are still starting out you should indeed keep them together though.

    terrible catch - elbows are down. the chin should lift with the chest drop.

      not only that:catch is too wide,also he glides when hands enter the water,you don't glide in butterfly you start the pull through the water as soon as hands enter it,his hands enter properly but than he straightens them out and glides,gliding is not allowed,butterfly is very fast stroke,it was made to counter freestyle in speed so no gliding,you only glide last stroke in the lap or when you need to push off the wall for another lap.chin only lifts when you intake air,every second or even third stroke,otherwise body is in streamline position similar to breast stroke in glide phase.you can breathe by lifting or turning your head sideways similar to freestyle breathing.
