    Had one of these when relatively new. Slant 6 can be easily boosted in horsepower. Leave the way it is, clean it up, keep it stock, enjoy as is.

      real easy,rip it out and drop in a 318,360,400.to get any reasonable amount of power out of a slant six costs a fortune and you really dont end up with much.

    Keep that slant six where it is. They are declining in number and we need to preserve the good ones. A V8 is a dime a dozen, but a slant six is rare.

    My dad won one of these in 1973 in a raffle. Mist green with a slant 6. 3 speed on the column. Drove it for years. Finally parked it after the transmission went out. Gave it to a guy to pass on the good karma. I loved that car. Part of my childhood.

    Looks good, Dylan. That 225 slant six is extremely durable. Check out Clifford Performance, they specialize in slant six and straight six performance. Clifford Performance mods would really wake that slant six up. Looking forward to the progress.

    You guys down south are so lucky.I knew of 3 guys in high school with Dusters and a Demon.The slant six was a great engine.Too bad our cars up here in Detroit literally rust to pieces because of the salt we use on the roads.Keep the 225 in that one.

    I would pull the slant six replace what's needed or just looks old, paint the engine, paint the engine compartment and make it look like a brand new 73 when you open the hood. Everyone seems to yank the six for a V8 which I think is a shame. Keep it original!!

    My dad had one just like that about 15 years ago. He had traded around and got it somewhere. It wasn’t running but was all original and in exceptional condition otherwise. It was a gold duster, slant 6 in it too, but it had jumped time. He was a busy man and everything had a price, so it sold before he really touched it

    Way back when, a buddy of mine had a 1973 Swinger (basically the same car) that car had even less options, no air, no vinyl roof, same slant 6, same ugly hub caps and it was brown. The car had been given to him by his father... and he hated it! BUT it was super clean (it was only a few years old) and instead of swapping in a 340 or 360, he sold it and bought a clapped out 67 Mustang that needed TONS of work. It's kind of cool to me to see that interior again... Good job I'd love to see you either keep it as it is with a few upgrades (like wheels etc) or beef up that slant 6 (love those) and make it a powerhouse. Any way you go will be interesting I'm sure.

    It's so cool to see a young man who appreciates these classic Mopar's . I found a 73 Dodge Dart Sport in 1993 & it was a little rough but it ran & I worked & had money saved up so I got it. Within 5 years it was looking the way I envisioned it the summer before my senior. Got married & sold it but had great time's in that( old dodge) as my wife refers to it. I sure hope it's being took care of . Would love for someone like yourself to have it . Thanks for the great video's & for taking care of your cool collection of Mopar Classic' s.

    I’m green with envy... I bought a 1976 Dart Sport in 1996 when I was 16. Gloss black. I ended up selling it and I’ve regretted it ever since. Mine was a 318/four spd car with a perfect black Dash, white interior and tweed front buckets.

    I bought a 1974 Gold Duster brand new. It was the biggest piece of Sh-t I ever owned. I had nothing but problems with it. It was dark green with green interior and a white vinyl top and 318 V8 with auto transmission. The back seat folded down for carpeted floor all the way to the carpeted trunk. Your video brings back horror and bad memories of my first new car ever. I traded it in after a year of ownership on a 75 Ford Granada, 6 cyl auto, which proved to be a great car.

  • @centralillinoisdashcam4367

    That's a nice solid car. If it was mine I would fix it up as-is and not swap motors. The Slant 6 can get some good mileage when treated right. I would fix the transmission leak (maybe make a video of the fix?) and give it new shocks (another video?) as well.
    I've owned 3 Mopars with the 225 Slant 6 in them. Those are damn good motors. Two was early 70's Dodge Darts and the other was a '79 Aspen.
    One Dart was given to me for work performed on a guy's Chevy pickup. His wife had spun the Dart around on a patch of ice the previous Winter and creamed the rear end on a tree. To get it running and drive it home I cut the fuel line and punched a hole in the floorboard. Then I ran a flexible line from the fuel line to a gas can in the rear floorboard and let the pump pull the fuel out. After I got it home I stripped it out and sold parts. Got $375 for the motor and tranny (64k miles) and another $80 for the seats and a few body parts. Then I got another $40 at the salvage yard when I finally towed it in for scrap. :-)
    EDIT: My Dad had a D100 with the 225 and it was a work horse. Ran great until my bro-in-law drove it as he ran it into the ground.

    I Recall back about 1977, the local dodge dealer had about 30 dodge darts all about 20,000 miles and all about $ 1900.00 to$ 2100.00. My old buddy bought one, and drove the wheels off of it. Those 225 slant 6 were incredible engines.

    You don't have to build it in one day that's for sure. Make a good driver out of it and enjoy it. One thing I learned not every car needs to be a project. Some can just remain what they are when they rolled out of the factory. Tires and wheels are obvious, you need to give that car a little bit of a look to it and something to break up all that gold paint. I say just make it a mechanically sound car for now!

  • @forterierocks

    @deanwhite4190 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Sorry to see that you removed the original whitewall tires and factory wheel covers. To me they looked so much nicer than your replacements. It's just that I am older and a stickler for originality. Your taste is different and that's OK. I remember these cars when they were new. Actually I had a new 1975 Dart Sport with a 318 V8. The car was medium metallic blue with a white vinyl roof. The 318 ran great and got around 18 mpg highway. I enjoy your videos and love those old Mopars.

    • @klwthe3rd
      @klwthe3rd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Charlie White I'm not as old but share your name but we think a lot alike. Originality is the way to go because they only come stock once. When you start screwing around changing things it starts losing value and appeal. These cars bring back so many memories and when you start modifying them, they don't even look like I remember them.

  • @Vader1957

    Good buy. I'd run it as is. The slant 6 is a good motor. To drop a V8 in, you have to change the K member? One of my favorite rides was a 69 Swinger 340 4 speed. Fun car.

    • @ekd1985

    Ah, the unmistakable sound of the leaning tower of power. I remember that sound. I have a gold Duster too, except it was originally a 318 auto with factory ac. The 318 is out, with a 360 magnum in it's place. It's been passed onto my brother, as I'm trying to find a 2 door C body or a 2 door 1960 Plymouth. Awesome channel dude, it's exactly what I'm interested in.

  • @blah9664
    @blah9664 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice find man she's in nice shape. That's the original color of my 73 duster according to my fender tag. You have just convinced me to go ahead and get the 68 dart slant 6 car I been thinking about getting from my buddy. It doesn't run and I've only seen pics of it but it looks to be in decent shape and its all there. I just have to go check out the body in person to confirm wether or not I want to fool with it.
    I wasn't sure if I wanted to mess around with a slant 6 car. I was kind of torn because I love the body style but I didn't want to worry about having to do a motor/trans/rear swap. Then I thought well maybe I'll just save time and money and keep it a slant 6. I figured it will probably still be a fun cruiser with the slant 6 and it would be cool to keep the original drive train in it especially since I've already got other v8 cars. If I do end up getting it I will do the same and just get it running and enjoy driving it as is for a while.

Other than that and side exhaust in front of the rear wheel it’s original and fun to run around in and sounds great.

Because for many of us our first car's mean so much to us and you telling us your first car was a Dodge Dart then make a lot of videos on it. If people loved there first cars and there able to get one like it again then do what you can to it. Once its done the car would represent who the driver is from the bottom of his heart.
