Abyss and Xilia 1 & 2 would make me the happiest. Those three have been on my backlog to finally play for a hot minute, but once all this remaster talk started I pushed them farther back on the list in the hopes that they’ll get remastered! Also, I wouldn’t mind some news on a _NEW_ Tales of game! Arise was my introduction to the series and I really loved that game.
Fan translations have a long history of saving the community not leaving the fans deprived of experiences. Because the market was simply very strange in the 90's... even successful games from giants like Square, Enix, Atlus and Nintendo were not released here. Sometimes entire franchises like the early Shin Megami Tensei games, the early Fire Emblem games (6 games!) and others. So emulators, roms and fan translations helped to prevent serious blank spots in the western gamer's experiences. The problem in first place was on the hard headed directors at the companies.
Yessssss. yessssss, yesssss! More Tales! Thank you for puitting this video out! This is the best present one could've asked for. Props to David for getting this info out there, and props to the team doing the patch and the other mods/patches they are doing. Best "shadow drop" in a long while!
Don't forget that the fan-translation for Tales of Destiny 2 is 100% finished and 70% edited, with the most recent update being from April 2024. It should be released soon hopefully.
@@cartoongamermatt9077 The only hopes of the Tales community: 1) fan projects like these full translations. 2) Bandai Namco not being a "Nintendo" to the community and letting them work freely.
The passion of fans. I've had my physical copy for a long while. I can finally play this on my modded hardware. What a fantastic Holiday surprise for jrpg and Tales fans!
The good part is that it's always great news that a classic game becomes finally avaliable to western fans. The bad part is that it's only thanks to the fans... meaning that Bandai Namco has no interest in works like a new translation for older games. Only remasters, etc... and only for some 3d games from TOS onwards.
It took me FOREVER to finally catch up on every major English release, though much of it was just me taking my sweet time playing through my backlog. The only ones I haven't played yet are Hearts R and Phantasia.
I got the PSP version in english, but only recently found out that most of the skits are cut out of the english version T AT so I lost all motivation to play ^^;
Eternia is fine even today, it just needs a hd remaster in my opinion. Maybe hd2d remake, but honestly i think the ps1 or psp version Phantasia has a much bigger priority for hd2d over Eternia. I like it but it's not that popular compared to what came before (like TOP and TOD) and after it (like TOS).
For the 30th anniversary, I think that they will be releasing a title roughly every 6 months for the next two years (since the project is set to run Jan 2025 to Dec 2026). So Graces in first half of 2025, likely Xillia in mid 2025, another remaster around New Year 2026, another remaster in mid 2026, and likely closing out the whole thing with a new game in late 2026. My guesses for the other two remasters are Xillia 2 and the Abyss. This would get all of the PS3 titles to modern systems, and the Abyss is a favorite title of one of the lead developers. Fans of older 2D Tales may need to wait for a slower annual release likely via remakes instead of remasters.
Damn, i was really hoping for Legendia to be remastered. But i know it's not very popular. Abyss is my favorite though, so it wouldn't be so bad. Xillia 2 is a waste of time, no pun intended lol.
@@clixpsi I think it's totally reasonable and affordable to release a hd remaster of the ps1 or psp version of Phantasia, that is the game that is literally turning 30 years old. The problem is only that Bandai Namco became lazier and might not translate such an old game from scratch. I mean, the gba version script is not enough because the ps1/psp remakes add more stuff.
i love being subbed to you, you are beyond the coolest for covering this so soon after the translation came out. Ive been playing for awhile and im so stoked to pick it up on switch if they remaster it fr
Literally playing it while listening to this video! I've been waiting literally half of my life for this translation, it feels like closure from my JRPG-devouring teenage years
Let's not forget Tales of the World 2 & 3. I like games where you actually create your own character, and play in a world with characters from the series.
It's good news but insane is maybe a bit of an overstatement. They've been very publicly working on this for years, so it wasn't like a crazy surprise or anything.
While I'm very happy to hear this, I'm little annoyed that Bamco didn't do this sooner. I mean, Tales has a pretty sizeable fan base across the world and only now do they choose to go along with this. Implying they prolly didn't take the series that much seriously until Arise literally broke a series record. Well, let's hope this all goes smoothly. Thnx David.

Man getting to play a ps2 tales game I never played it feels like early 2000s Christmas again when I got Tales of the Abyss, thanks for letting us know about this!
Considering that our man Veigue is a cameo battle in Tales of Graces f, let's cross our fingers that Tales of Rebirth is one of the titles getting a fresh new coat of paint with a remaster or remake. Especially since the devs already stated that they want to bring the older games to modern consoles so more people can play them. A Tales of Phantasia remake and remakes or remasters of the Tales of Destiny Duology would be instant day 1 buys.
I love tales first game I played was a tales of phantasia rom fell in love w the series on the spot even bought a 360 to play versperia when somehow at the time they manage do even get an exclusive
I'm playing Rebirth right now and gotta admit, the 3-line battle system is actually cool for what it lets you do, and I'm intrigued so far about where the story is going to go, I'm still really early in and taking my time.
I have always been interested in the tales series, the first one I played was Tales of Arise, and if the others are anything like Arise, I’d be excited to play these games
I finished Tales of destiny dc on my steam deck & now playing rebirth on the deck! I much prefer the older tales titles over the new. The devs really need to go back to their roots man!

Tales or rebirth is one of my favorite tales game. I love this game and i love its overall message which i think is so important especially in todays world. I played this game the hard way with a translation scribt written years ago. I had given up hope of this game ever getting a official or fan patch. Tales has always had some dedicated fans and once again they came through for the community.
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the Tales of series. Usually all the games I love, everyone else hates and vice versa. Still though, great news for game preservation and I'm glad the people who wanted this finally get to experience it. Happy day! When I played the JP version on my PS2, I got stuck. I was just waiting for an English fan translation. Probably wait till a few betas in to get the kinks out, but will download when I have a chance. I've...been a bit cautious with a few patches I've watched dying and being taken offline before the final release. I would rebuy the games they remaster even if I had a fan translation already. I'm always willing to support official releases after all, since that tells the devs people want them.
Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut is basically my perfect Tales game so that's the one I want released in the US as unaltered as possible. Do not "improve" it. The only way to improve it would be giving the player Manual Control at the beginning and adding the Combo Command. Otherwise I'd be afraid of any changes made to it. But really any and all 2D Tales games because the West has been denied 2D Tales and I firmly believe the games are MUCH better in 2D...but we haven't gotten to HAVE that conversation since we didn't GET those games!
This is awesome, I'll be installing this on my PS2 HDD asap. I would love to see Eternia and Phanatasia done with this graphics engine, it's so fluid and beautiful to look at other than that weird world map where your character is taller than the trees. Major kudos to the team that worked on this, they did a great service to the gaming community that I'm sure everyone appreciates immensely.
That's probably impossible at this point, sadly. Maybe at the time of the ps2 TOD remake, but the modern Bandai Namco doesn't seem to be into brand new 2d jrpgs. Outsourcing seems unlikely as well. But TOP could get a hd2d remake or at the very least a hd remaster based on the ps1 or psp version. TOE deserves at least a hd remaster.
I was wondering if there was a shadow drop Tales of Rebirth all of the sudden when you mentioned it, but I was informed about the fan translation being nearly completly done for it. Was questioning myself if I was THAT out of the loop rn xD
If the news are about an old Tales game getting a brand new work like a translation, it's better to assume that it's not official. Bandai Namco lately will only bother doing things like remasters of old games that are already translated. Ridiculous for a company of that size and power.
