Been waiting for this video after your comment on my colored pencil drawing. the way you work with the watercolor and colored pencils together is my go to in my journal. the two just marry so well. I love this video because for some reason i never thought of using the pencils with the alcohol markers! thanks for that tip

Hey there! I didn't care for colored pencils either...Until...I did the Jenny Manno project in the Fun Fab Faces Challenge. When we got to burnishing I tried my White Stabilo All Pencil and I love the way it blends out my Prismacolors...creamy. Karen you have got to try it!

Sherry Harder that's awful. I'm so sorry. I can't even imagine.... I know this is going to sound random coming from a stranger, but there is a book called ' Embraced by the Light' by Betty. J Eadie, that has helped me tremendously when dealing with death and loss. I found this book years ago when my moms friend lost her 20 year old son to a drug overdose. It helped her heal and truly understand things she didn't before. When I read it, it had such an impact in the way I thought, that since then ( and it has been about 18 years since I first came across it) I have been telling anyone that has suffered a loss and is struggling, about this book. Please if you are still having a hard time, and I imagine that losing a child is something you will never truly get over, check it out. It might just help you. Many hugs and healing prayers.

I think I just fell in love with you for saying this .... I dont get the colored pencil thing at all .. so because of that I find my self buying tonnes of them ... Because i think that when i find the RIGHT brand I will love them .... I have lots of diff brands and 40-80 of each .. Prismacolor, Polychromos, Caran D'ache, Derwent, Koh-I-Noor, Albrecht Durer, Arteza.... and i use NONE of them .. I dont get them .. I know i "should" like them ... But yes they are slooooooow.... It was really comforting hearing you on this video! Maybe I can actually start using my pencils as a complement and not as the "star" of a painting! Thank you!

HI there. I was trying to find any comparisons you have done for NON water soluble pencils...really - which is a better option if going to spend some big bucks (decided to spoil myself, but confused on which mfr to purchase): Prisma pencils or Faber Castell - or if there is something even better on the market. Thank you.
To be honest I’m not at all picky about colored pencils because I hardly use them. The most important thing is their ingredients. Wax or oil or pastel or a combination of them and what the application will be. All play an important factor, much more so than the brand. Unless you’re using them alone in which case you can take your pick. I have and enjoy them all but again, I’m not picky about mine and I don’t personally notice a huge difference between Prismas and the even more fine art brands (like Caran D’ache, Faber-Castell, Derwent, etc). They are all excellent choices.

It can a little bit but it produces a different looking effect. You can try both ways and see which way you prefer. I long ago gave up on the blender marker. It makes the areas wet not as for blending...I (personally) don't think it does a good job (or it doesn't work the way I WISHED it would work).
I don't have colored pencils but I have watercolor pencils so will that do? 😋 I never used them for years until I started doing faces to add some detailed work. I have shakey hands so pencils work better than tiny detailed brushes.

Karen Campbell, Artist ....that’s the sharpener I have and I try to be oh so very careful. I read on line once about baking them for a short time in the oven to help prevent this. Not all of mine break but when they do it drives me nuts. I will push on. Thanks Karen!
@@marshagonsalves2810 I do know that if you ever drop the pencils the leads break inside the shaft so that's why people recommend baking them, to melt the lead back together but I know from personal experience it is REALLY hard to find a decent pencil sharpener. I have dozens of them, always on the search!! Good luck!

I wish I had seen this last night! I am making a mess of a face and am up to layer 8 when I tried the colour pencils. My initial mistake may have been catastrophic- NO shading with an acrylic layer. Which I’ve been trying to fix ever since with every other product I have🥺 If only I’d known about hamburgers before I started this one....sigh. It may be unsaveable.
@@KarenCampbellArtist I'm now up to about layer 15 on her face and still can't get it right - agghhhh! I almost had it and had added the mod podge layer but then my stupid perfectionist self picked up a permanent marker and messed up again. Now I'm back to gesso and acrylic paint! LOL

Been waiting for this video after your comment on my colored pencil drawing. the way you work with the watercolor and colored pencils together is my go to in my journal. the two just marry so well. I love this video because for some reason i never thought of using the pencils with the alcohol markers! thanks for that tip

My question: When you add the Modgepodge (or Liquitex medium / varnish layer) how do you keep the Stabilo pencil that you’ve done her features with from activating and smearing all over her face?
I don’t! It totally smears and I love it! I’m just careful and smear it in a controlled way and in the directions I want it to go in.

Hey there! I didn't care for colored pencils either...Until...I did the Jenny Manno project in the Fun Fab Faces Challenge. When we got to burnishing I tried my White Stabilo All Pencil and I love the way it blends out my Prismacolors...creamy. Karen you have got to try it!

Sherry Harder that's awful. I'm so sorry. I can't even imagine.... I know this is going to sound random coming from a stranger, but there is a book called ' Embraced by the Light' by Betty. J Eadie, that has helped me tremendously when dealing with death and loss. I found this book years ago when my moms friend lost her 20 year old son to a drug overdose. It helped her heal and truly understand things she didn't before. When I read it, it had such an impact in the way I thought, that since then ( and it has been about 18 years since I first came across it) I have been telling anyone that has suffered a loss and is struggling, about this book. Please if you are still having a hard time, and I imagine that losing a child is something you will never truly get over, check it out. It might just help you. Many hugs and healing prayers.

I think I just fell in love with you for saying this .... I dont get the colored pencil thing at all .. so because of that I find my self buying tonnes of them ... Because i think that when i find the RIGHT brand I will love them .... I have lots of diff brands and 40-80 of each .. Prismacolor, Polychromos, Caran D'ache, Derwent, Koh-I-Noor, Albrecht Durer, Arteza.... and i use NONE of them .. I dont get them .. I know i "should" like them ... But yes they are slooooooow.... It was really comforting hearing you on this video! Maybe I can actually start using my pencils as a complement and not as the "star" of a painting! Thank you!

HI there. I was trying to find any comparisons you have done for NON water soluble pencils...really - which is a better option if going to spend some big bucks (decided to spoil myself, but confused on which mfr to purchase): Prisma pencils or Faber Castell - or if there is something even better on the market. Thank you.
To be honest I’m not at all picky about colored pencils because I hardly use them. The most important thing is their ingredients. Wax or oil or pastel or a combination of them and what the application will be. All play an important factor, much more so than the brand. Unless you’re using them alone in which case you can take your pick. I have and enjoy them all but again, I’m not picky about mine and I don’t personally notice a huge difference between Prismas and the even more fine art brands (like Caran D’ache, Faber-Castell, Derwent, etc). They are all excellent choices.

Another great video, full of inspiration, tuition and creativity. Will a blender marker blend the harsh lines vs using pencils? ~ Mimi Strzelewicz
It can a little bit but it produces a different looking effect. You can try both ways and see which way you prefer. I long ago gave up on the blender marker. It makes the areas wet not as for blending...I (personally) don't think it does a good job (or it doesn't work the way I WISHED it would work).

I don't have colored pencils but I have watercolor pencils so will that do? 😋 I never used them for years until I started doing faces to add some detailed work. I have shakey hands so pencils work better than tiny detailed brushes.

The Copic markers? Nope, they need to be used on special paper only because the ink inside is alcohol based.

What is the best way to keep Prisma color pencils from breaking when you sharpen them? Soooooo frustrating!
It's probably your sharpener that you're using, try getting a Prismacolor one (made just for them). They're not very expensive!
Karen Campbell, Artist ....that’s the sharpener I have and I try to be oh so very careful. I read on line once about baking them for a short time in the oven to help prevent this. Not all of mine break but when they do it drives me nuts. I will push on. Thanks Karen!
@@marshagonsalves2810 I do know that if you ever drop the pencils the leads break inside the shaft so that's why people recommend baking them, to melt the lead back together but I know from personal experience it is REALLY hard to find a decent pencil sharpener. I have dozens of them, always on the search!! Good luck!

I wish I had seen this last night! I am making a mess of a face and am up to layer 8 when I tried the colour pencils. My initial mistake may have been catastrophic- NO shading with an acrylic layer. Which I’ve been trying to fix ever since with every other product I have🥺 If only I’d known about hamburgers before I started this one....sigh. It may be unsaveable.
Gesso, my friend!! Gesso over it and you can then do whatever you want!!
@@KarenCampbellArtist I'm now up to about layer 15 on her face and still can't get it right - agghhhh! I almost had it and had added the mod podge layer but then my stupid perfectionist self picked up a permanent marker and messed up again. Now I'm back to gesso and acrylic paint! LOL
