Can we talk about how this makes things SO MUCH easier on people who have only a few packs or just the base game, with just one little mod. Not to mention mixing packs that are normally slightly tonally off from one another. I MEAN. THE WOOD.
Excellent point about the wood. How hard would it be for EA to use a selection of 12 wood swatches for color value? Impossibly difficult, apparently. {rolls eyes at EA}
I recently made a Sim for someone wanting to do the challenge, and I must say, this mod would have made my life much easier. Matching colors is where The Sims 4 shows the limitations of the swatches.
Hey Kayla. Hear me out .... Use this mod to do the make an every room a different color challenge. You could literally make everything the same color. Think of the chaos!

Thats what disappointed me a bit when I first got this game. We used to have this with the "Create a Style" feature on the Sims 3. Sims 4 should have a similar feature. Not just the make up. You can change the tone of the make ups in Create A Sim. But thats the only thing with that feature, unless you're at the beginning adding a cat or dog to your household starting out. I can help a bit here. keep in mind, that you're changing the values of everything on the object at the same rate. So if you have a purple and yellow duvet, then when you lighten that purple, so too will the yellow lighten. But it gets tricky in these situations, because those two colors are so vastly different in saturation scales. This is where knowing a bit of basic color theory is going to help you out a lot to get the results you want, or at the very least be able to use the tool within its limitations by knowing what to expect from it. Hope that helps.
This mod seems so useful for the not so berry challenge, since some gen’s like peach or mint don’t always have furniture that makes sense with that gen color, or other gen like pink or green, they only have one shade of those gen colors, which you may not always want.
That is so awesome. I already downloaded it. You're right, Sims 4 is severely lacking in swatches and in earlier Sims they had a color wheel. Mod creators are the best and the fact they give it to you free is just amazing. Thanks for the link. I love this.
This would be great for the NSB challenge when sometimes you cant find furniture what color you need or want. I wonder if it changes walls and floors, rugs etc... Hmmm this is a very good mod maybe it doesn't changer wallpaper, flooring that's ok you can find what colors what you want in the game even if it is CC.
This is awesome news. Customizing colors and swatches was my favorite thing about Sims 3 and what was missing the most in 4. Still miss the vast options of swatch customs but maybe that is still to come. A girl can hope. Thank you for sharing the discovery.
The original colour of the object get multiplied with the chosen colour, with the range transposed to a 0..1 range. So, any channel with a zero value will zero that channel in the final result. Apply pure green to pure red or blue will result in black.
I wonder how this mod works with the Sims character's perception of colours. Can they pick up on the changed colour or with they only register the default settings for the items?
What about 'every room is a different year' challenge, where you can only use packs that were already released in that year, but also taking into account updates (eg. no autoplace for windows and doors or no swimming pools when they were not available)
Oh I’m so glad that this exists. I’m a blue or green kind of person with mixing of dark objects to make it work. I can’t wait to get home from work and download.
It will be great for wood items that don’t have a specific swatch that you need to match other items. Say you want to use a specific door but it doesn’t have a wood color to match the windows.
Thanks for the heads up on the Mod. I think content creators talking about mods may be the most relevant thing going for Sims 4 right now. Which stinks for console players, but maybe if the community just does nothing but chat about mods, maybe EA will unlock that for console. its the main reason i switched to playing on PC, because if I am going to buy umpteen expansions, then I should definitely be able to have access to mods as well. Regarding this mod specifically, I do think color theory is going to be necessary, as it appears that the application of this mod in an intentional manner, will require at least some fundamental color theory. Things like "just because you have purple set to a specific saturation, doesnt mean that it shall have the same brightness if you change the hue to yellow at the same saturation", just as a rough example. That said, this can be used as a pretty good earning tool for testing out color theories as proof of concept, so with a guide in hand, along with this tool, it should be a decent educational tool. I wish I had something like this for practical applications when I started out in graphic design. Regardless, I am so glad we have an easy to use color wheel mod for the game. Shame on EA for not doing this themselves since this code isnt that complicated. Earlier sims had it, afterall, as we all know. Going to the download page now to get myself a copy of the mod.
Okay but as a hardcore Sims 3 player, I was laughing so hard when you said this mod was almost too advanced... because Sims 3 cast-tool is still so much more advanced. 🤣 But I know it would be nearly impossible to get that level of customization on a mod for Sims 4, because to achieve that you would have to edit EVERY SINGLE ITEM to be compatible. As it is, object swatches in Sims 4 are basically just overlays, while Sims 3 items we use overlays, multipliers, and masks. Whatever is going to be recolorable in cast is transparent in the overlay. The mask tells the game what parts of the multiplier to apply patterns and colors to, allowing customization of individual parts of objects.
This mod is kinda pointless to me, (also coming from ts3 player) it just overlays color on the existing swatch, and most objects are not compatible with it, beds and couches look like they were dunk into paint bucket. Imo ts4 does not have a game mechanics for this kind of mod to work, cause it does not recognise bed frames/bedding, counter/counter tops etc. as separate objects which was the case in ts3 and even ts2
I get how the sims 3 old color wheel was really cumbersome and slow. They had textures and patterns. But a basic color wheel for sims 4 would have been such a valuable thing to add to the game. I can't imagine it would have slowed the game down.
This just makes me miss the color customization we had in sims 3 for everything. The patterns, the colors of every part of a piece of furniture, even your sim you had free reign with.
