I never questioned the supply of a Fritz Box 7530: Zen provided it free as a replacement. Having seen the experiences of others, Zen has proved to be a great ISP. I would never change just to save a few quid here and there. Like most things in life, you get what you pay for.
Not with Zen but got a 7530 when OR sub contractor failed to connect me at the cab. It was Covid time and joining Zen ended up a nightmare and had to return to BT for another 2 years due to incompetence somewhere. Zen did not want it back been running it on BT ever since, jumping to IDNet FTTH as 300/300 compared to 300/47 on Zen, and have their chosen router ordered, it won't get used as the Zen supplied free 7530 is perfect in everyday.
I just set up a 2nd fritzbox 7530 ax as a meshed access point via lan and it doesn't seem to transmit WiFi at all. To turn it into the mesh access was dead easy but am I missing something? The lan out is perfect, just no WiFi. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Mark, thanks for the great review. I can't work out how to use the 7530 with my landline? I have a dect cordless phone, but it seems to only work with VoIP. Where as I notice in your view of the 7590 you refer to that working with a landline. Do I have to plug a phone directly into the fon port and perhaps Dect only works with VoIP or maybe it is not supported on the 7530? Grateful for your comments. Thanks.
Great review, just got FTTP from Zen and on the basis of this review I went out and brought the 7590 and am using that as the master and the Zen supplied 7530 as the mesh repeater. Very pleased. One question Mark how do you get the analogue phone to work? I have plugged just the small black end of the splitter via an BT to RJ11 adaptor into the landline and have set up the landline in the OS but no joy.
@@markjdraperHi, AVM have been very helpful, in the end it turned out to be an issue with the BT Male Plug to RJ11 connector that I was using (the router comes with just a RJ11 phone plug). Changed to use a RJ11 to RJ11 connector to join the lead from my old DECT base station to the Fritz lead and all is well.
I'm not with Zen so couldn't say for sure. Could be they've locked it down, if you don't see some features that I show in my video that's the most likely reason.
I am running a home office which I required 16 static IP's for the multiple of servers which I have. I am struggling to setup Static IP on specific devices and I am having no joy with Zen support desk.
Dear Eketubol, thanks for your question. In terms of static IPs we have to differentiate the different type of static IPs. Decide if you simply want to provide your servers with private static IP-adresses from your local FRITZ!Box-network, or your ISP provides you with a static IPv4-Subnet and therefor multiple public IPv4-adresses. Luckily the FRITZ!Box has a solution for both. If you simply want to set static private adresses, follow this steps: en.avm.de/service/fritzbox/fritzbox-7530/knowledge-base/publication/show/201_Configuring-FRITZ-Box-to-always-assign-the-same-IP-address-to-a-network-device/#zd and in the case of public IP-adresses follow these steps: en.avm.de/service/fritzbox/fritzbox-7530/knowledge-base/publication/show/1638_Setting-up-a-public-IPv4-subnet-in-the-FRITZ-Box/#zd Should you have any further questions, please let us know. Great review. I've just signed up with Zen and received a Fritz!Box 7530. So I decided to purchase a Fritz!Fon C5 DECT handset to go with it. I just can't figure out how to use my landline phone number as the outgoing number, there doesn't seem to be any options for choosing a landline number. I'm presuming you enter the outgoing number in the manage telephone number wizard?
Dear Paul, thanks for your feedback. When calling someone with the FRITZ!Fon C5 you want to use a specific landline number which is setup in the FRITZ!Box? If so, you can assign a certrain number for the outgoing calls. You can read instructions for this case right here: en.avm.de/service/fritzbox/fritzbox-7530/knowledge-base/publication/show/23_Assigning-numbers-to-telephony-devices Please let us know if that helped. I have this with Zen Internet I find it so much better than the BT smart hub my speed are a lot faster now and the price is good. £20 cheaper per month than BT plus 3 times faster I have the Ultimate 2 package with line rental. Zen also have Superb customer service. I will never go back to BT.
Thanks for the review Mark. Got one of these boxes from Zen Internet. Can I ask though what is the wifi analyzer you are using? Is it a free or pro version that includes the speedtest.
AVM rescinded the bridge mode feature in the most recent firmware revisions. you do get statistics from the DSL on par if not better than most routers.
Mark, great review of the Fritz Box. I am considering migrating to Zen, looks like a good modem/router for me. Could you please tell me which app you use for WiFi analysis?
Migrate to Zen. You won't regret it! If you do have an occasional connection issue, it's easy and quick to get to speak to a 'real' technician who can address the problem. You'll find that they are perfectly happy to help with configuration and settings issues too.
He says the routers are in a 'MESH' network but they are not MESHed! To be in the MESH network you need to have have the blue icon shown on the router in the home network also on the slave router until then the routers are not in a MESHed network!
WARNING! DO NOT BUY THE FRITZBOX 7530 The Fritzbox 7530 is an absolute piece of junk. It does not work. I couldn't get online with it. After two separate hour long phone calls to Zen technical support I was no further forward. I still couldn't get online. It was all packed up again and sent back the same day.
You have said this more than once. On multiple TH-cam channels. You seem to be the only person on the entire Internet who doesn't like it from what I can see
That’s hard to believe as the fritz box is set up to work out the box when ordering it from Zen Internet. You don’t need to do anything to set it up plug it in and go it’s plug and play. There are some extra things you can use on it which you will need to set up yourself but most people do not need them.
I messed about trying to set it up and ballsed it up, phoned Zen who talked me through the set up and said I could have just plugged it in with no messing about needed, that wasn’t obvious from the literature which is why I started altering it but sorted by Zen and it worked and super speedy too. §

Surely by definition you are not in mesh mode if you are able to connect to a particular node in the mesh to test it's speed?

Can I add a wireguard VPN configuration to this router? Thanks for the review

hey, looking to add a VPN to the router, but this router doesn't allow VPN, which router can I replace this FritzBox from Zen?
Do you have option to permit max bandwidth for each devices (qos)?
Do you know if the Zen supplied edition is locked to Zen only, or has other ISP profiles available like the standalone one in Amazon?

Zen can port your landline number under the digital voice VOIP they offer.
Can you connect a DECT phone to an external Voip PBX, FreePBX in my case ?
Yes.
@@plkrtn Thanks, that's good to know. I'm thinking of the Yealink DECT connecting to my Freepbx via the Fritzbox
@@plkrtn Do you know if if it'll work in bridge mode (no NAT) for PFsense ?
Does it have good range

Yes it's a great router. You know what goes well with it? The Fritz!Fon C6 I've just reviewed 😉th-cam.com/video/uwwMCyp_0sE/w-d-xo.html

AVM's own WiFi analyzing tool is also quite good. FRITZ!App WLAN
The WiFi analyser he's using on the Android phone is WiFi Analyzer for Android.
I would like to see the 7530 vs the 7490
Have Zen nerfed any of the features of the router like other ISPs do with their routers, or is it completely stock?
Nope its the same version you would buy.
Can this be used as modem only in bridge mode? Also, can you get detailed line stats from it...eg Errors, actual & attainable etc?

Fritzbox is made by German Fritz. It has nothing to do with Belgium Pommes Frites but it fritzes the Fritz regardless.
It's made by German AVM.
