Great tips! We too have a septic tank, and we just had plumbers here this morning because a guest, whom was told not to flush wipes, flushed wipes thinking we would not know. Believe me, $1100 later, we know! 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ I use the types of sponges to clean dishes that can be cut in half. Half fits my hands and the dishes better, and the package lasts twice as long. Just another tip to add to yours!
I use vinegar as a softener in my washing machine every time/ day that I wash clothes. I put it in the part that says softener not full but about maybe two tablespoons
I have used the baking soda on furniture and it really works, makes it smell fresh without adding air freshener sprays. I always enjoys your hacks so please keep them coming, I’m 72 and still still learning 😂 have a blessed day
I love to clean & refresh our mattress every few months by mixing baking soda with tea tree oil (which is antibacterial, antiviral & antimicrobial) then sprinkle that mix on the mattress, let it sit for at least 30 mins (but you can leave it for a couple hours if you prefer) then just vacuum it up! It kills any yuck living on the mattress & smells so fresh
Thanks for the lamp shade tip! That was definitely my problem. Also after cleaning your chopping board you can put a little bit of olive oil on it, it will be like new. I have to say that I was the biggest advocate for vinegar but recently I noticed that my bath tub is not as clean as I would like it to be, a bit yellow so now I clean with vinegar and some stronger stuff in rotation 🙂
My British nan had 2 dogs and used to keep her sofas covered in these lovely cotton blankets that she washed every week. It was the best solution ever for easy cleaning and preserving the sofas. I now do this with my own sofas. They sell all sorts of fantastic washable sofa covers on Amazon these days.
I enjoyed your video, here are a few hacks I find helpful. Feather duster is all I use on lampshades, I'm 65 and it's worked all these years. Also to clean fan blades use and old pillowcase put it over the fan blade and rub the dust into the pillowcase. Prevents the dust from ending up on the floor. Blinds I use a microfibre cloth glove and rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle, it works great.
Tip for cleaning blinds: I hated using the tong blind cleaner, it just takes so much time do every single slat. We have 14 windows in this house! I use my Shark vacuum attachment and just vac. I turn the blinds all the way one direction, vac, then turn the other direction and vac. Done in about 2 minutes and can move onto the next.
As someone with 2 dogs and 3 cats I feel blessed to have found a homemaking related channel created by a person with many pets! Pets make it so hard to keep the house clean!
Thanks for the broom cleaning tip. I have to put everything on long handles & furniture on wheels as I had hip replacement surgery & can’t bend more than 90 degrees at the hips.
Hi Angela! I think your tips are all good, I use most of them in one way or another. I am one of those, the Vinegar fans ☺. We mostly have front loader washing machines here in Sweden. A good thing is that they are bigger and a bad one that they can get very dirty. I always use vinegar in every load of laundry, instead of softener. Sometimes I also take a dish washer tablet and put in in the bottom of the machine and a load of clothes on top. The tablet cleans the machine sooooo good that if I do it regulary it´s like having a new machine. We live in an appartmentbuilding and some of our neighbours... I don´t know what they d to the poor machines... It works just fine with ordinary salt to, when cleaning cuttingboards. About baking soda on the couch. If you´re out of it or just have a little you can use potato flour. That also helpful on stains that are a little fat on wallpapers. And, potato flour is a good dry shampoo to, just massage it in to the scalp and brush out. A dust sock makes dusting so much more fun 😁 who doesn´t want to be in the Muppet show. 😉 I use chunky old socks for oiling wood to and when I do shoe polish. Sometimes I dust our blinds with a sock to. I hate those blinds and would prefer to just bin them all tho since I´m not the only one living here...
I use the woolballs with the dryer sheets together. Get done a dash quicker ❣️ I wash all my colors with vinegar and the last run of whites with vinegar.
So enjoy your channel since finding you!! ❤ I have ruined the motor of a dyson before doing this on carpet. It’s been about 8 years now so maybe they have changed but that’s what the company told me! Something about the powdered baking soda being too fine and it not being made to handle that. Might be worth looking into because they are so pricey!
Very nice and useful tips. Some of these I learned for my cleaning side job years ago, some I've learned recently. I wish I knew about the dryer sheets and cleaning the sofa with baking soda.❤ Thanks so much Angela! There's always something to learn every day. 👍🏼
I don't know why people don't use their vacuum brush, straight tool and furniture tool attachments more. I use mine for pictures, furniture, lamps/shades, blinds, (inside windows, sliding doors also the straight tool), baseboards (add the pole, so you don't have to bend), A.C grates and vents, and walls at times. Especially when there is a lot of dust. Just vacuum off your brush as you go.
Thank you for these!! One tip I love is mixing baking soda with essential oil (I use lavender) and then sprinkling it over an area (mattress, sofa, etc.) Then it smells nice while it does it’s magic 😌
You can use baking soda to dust and disinfect your mattresses. Just sprinkle it on top, leave to sit for at least two hours and then vacuum it up. Also you can use white vinegar as fabric softener and lemon as clothes whitener.
For the dog smell, get a bottle of rubbing alcohol and pour it in a spray bottle. Add water. 2 parts rubbing alcohol to 1 part water. Spray and let dry. Works SO well! We also add a little real peppermint oil to it for a nice scent. It’s safe for pets according to my vet. I spray it on anything fabric. For their dog bed covers or blankets, I wash with a cup of baking soda.
Save a chore! For years, I have added a small squirt of Dawn to the laundry detergent & that takes care of a lot of would-be spots or stains. Instead of softener, I use plain white vinegar. It cuts the detergent film so no buildup in washer, & there's no smell when the clothes dry. I use the wool dryer balls too but without scent. Blessings! Jackie in upstate NY
I've been putting my sponges in my dishwasher when I find they're too dirty and wash them with the dishes but I'll try your hack to see which cleans it better. Thx!
My hubby is allergic to all fabric softeners. I have always used vinegar instead. I just put a half cup of so in the fs dispenser for each load. Works great
On the baking soda/vacuuming. I found out recently that this ruins your vaccum. It damages the filters also. Blew my mind as I did this for last few years.
After reading that powder type deodorizers wreck filter vacuums, I use a dust buster to vacuum baking soda since it's a cheaper cleaning tool. I always clean the filter and it is still working fine.
How does it ruin a vacuum? I'm genuinely curious. I was under the impression that vacuums are made for vacuuming up dirt & debris, which has, who knows what in it?. I could see it clogging certain types of filters, but good reusable filters are easy to wash. Speaking of washing, that was on my to-do list....
Cleaning a lampshade...I use the left over dryer sheets that have already gone around in the dryer.... they also brilliant to dust wooden frames and even base boards...the dust stays on the dryer sheets and doesn't float around in the air.
We used silicone caulk for the cracks between the baseboards and the walls (clear or white-thin layer and a tight glove to rub it flat and smooth), might make dusting easier. (Ps our house was new so we were pretty annoyed)
I have one *addition that I do on one of these. On the very first one, I vacuum the lampshade first, then go to get the last little bits or anything that was stirred up off with a lint roller. Just another Southerner here that has the kids, animals, husband and dust! 😊
Vinegar tip ...... Window washing - Bucket 3/4 warm water 1/4 vinegar. Lint free clothes. I like cloth diapers or tea towels. Use one for cleaning windows and 1 for drying. Gets them super clean no streaking and no chemicals.
I wash lampshades by spraying them with ammonia then letting them sit in a bucket of soapy water. The water turns brown usually. I rinse them off under the bath tub faucet and hang them to dry. They look pristine every time.
I add a scoop or two, depending on load size, of course salt with my washing. Helps keep machine clean and helps with odours too (baking soda can also be added). If company is coming and you don't have time to scrub the shower, while in the shower I use a little shampoo on a cloth and just quickly wash the glass panels. It doesn't last a long time, but at least your shower looks loads better.
I follow the “HopewellHeigts” Stephanie ‘s recipe . It takes less ingredients and seems more “liquid like” I do add vinegar/ salt to my washer. Stephanie ‘ steeps” her home grown lemon Baum , which gives it a nice smell ! Or you can add essential oils to the liquid.
I put vinegar in the softener compartment of my washer with almost every load. It has almost eliminated the lingering sweat smell from clothes or stink from wash cloths, etc.
Dryer sheets also work well to help with smells. Put a few in the bottom of a trash can or add it to the cat litter filter. Also, if your animals bring fleas in cheap table, salt kills them. Sprinkle it on any carpets let it s8and vacuum it up
Do you have a cleaning routine like FlyLady or CleanMama? Or do you have your own routine? Like Monday’s you do This, Tuesday do This, etc. Your morning, afternoon, evening cleaning routine . Etc. Would love to know how you keep it all together
Thanks Angela! Lots Of things i didn’t know in this video. “ crawling around on your hands and knees like a dog.” You are so funny! From now on I’ll stand up like the human i am!!!!😆
I made bought a very expensive steamer “ it is the best macho I’ve ever bought! Actually still paying for! But I love it and it sanitizes my entire house. It runs on water and you add essential oils to the pad under the steaming rag. My shoulders hurt all of the time, the long hose is great… pet swiffers are also awesome…
If you do not love the smell of vinegar, use citric acid. Just buy the powder () looks like salt) and it dissolves instantly. Can use it for many many things and it has NO odor!!
I got sick of vinegar smell so switched to citric acid. It's way better and doesn't smell. It takes off any hard water build up. I just did our dish washer as we've moved and the dish washer was caked with build up so I soaked it and I looks new now.
Wow just recently I tried to clean a lampshade with a fiber cloth and it was a mess. I now tried the lint roller (don't know why I didnt think of it) and EVERYTHING came off 🎉
Same with our baseboards! They aren't flush and the paint comes off! I'm about to scrub them to pieces and then just repaint and fill in and start over 😂
Old pillow case to dust fan blades put it over fan blades swipe it down excess falls in pillow case. Flip it inside out in trash or outside love it. Throw it in wash brand new
Caution Dyson Users: baking soda should NOT be vacuumed with a Dyson - I believe it cautions you in the manual. I didn't know this either, and unfortunately mine stopped working months later. The powder is too fine for the motor and the particles clung to the filter or motor thing... it's a lovely cleaning tip, but it's not good for Dyson
If a vacuum can't handle baking soda, then it can't handle dandruff, dust, and dust bunnies. I don't think I'd want to invest in a vacuum that can't handle the dust my area is so prone towards
@@YasuTaniina True! I think baking soda is a densely packed, super fine particulate... if I were able to remove the outer contents of the vacuum container, I would have been able to clean it. Live and learn.

Okay I have to say this: stop cleaning blinds like that! At most that detailed one at a time thing should only be once a year. Instead, extend them down as far as they'll go, turn them all the way on one side, clean the whole side and then turn them the other way and repeat. It's not only easier but it's how the designers intended they be cleaned and it's better for the life of it.

Vinegar is also an awesome fabric softener. I add vinegar and baking soda to every load. We use the dryer balls and I dont use harsh smelly detergents
I never commented on your videos, but I know for sure I love watching them. You are a pure inspiration, Angela! 👌

I was thinking the same thing
I learned after spilling toner on the carpet NOT to use the beater bar when vacuuming fine powder. It will work the powder down instead of up.
Same. I even have a pet hair remover attachment. Works great!
Oh and thank you for the lint roller lampshade thing- I’ve been vacuuming it and this seems much better!

Thanks for your tips. Funny i was just spring cleaning and sat down to eat something and watched your video. Got to get going again. lol
Those dryer sheets work great on baseboards too-it picks up and repels dust 🙌🏻

Essential oil
Lamp shade dust buster 😊

Hi Angela. Watching you from Long Beach California.

I use powdered citric acid in the toilet tank. It works SO much better than vinegar! You will be amazed!

You could use a Mason jar and poke holes in lid or use an old spice jar for the baking soda as well :)
Or an old parmesan cheese lid on a mason jar, perfect shaker!
@@Deb_Creamer Absolutely! I saved my last one for this reason but have yet to try it out.
