I would be so excited to see you read all those mystery/thrillers! I’m trying to read through as many of the top 20 there before voting also! The Tainted Cup is a mystery fantasy so if you feel like a little of both that would be a good one to pick up I think.

Cracking up at your 'kinda rascist!' comment. Love how on it you were with your mystery/thriller predictions and very happy to see How to Solve Your Own Murder on there as it's probably the one I'm most interested in! I too was unimpressed to see Bride in Romance rather than Romantasy - I feel like they just saw the author and was just like yup! I think you'd LOVE the Honey Witch!!! It was cute and charming (though as a heads up - also deals a lot with grief) Hope you enjoy your thrillers! I don't have time to read a category this year but NEXT YEAR I am definitely gonna try and read all the horror or all the fantasy.
Oh goody, lots of grief, how delightful; but thanks for the warning, going in knowing usually makes it much easier to handle! And yesssss, do it!!! Selfishly I totally vote fantasy!!

Lots of comments, of course! Re: The Familiar: don't be afraid of it! It actually turns into a different story than (at least I) was expecting. Yes, there's some scary stuff, but no on-page torture that I can recall. Re: Veronica Roth: She wrote the Divergent series! And I've actually heard great things about When Among Crows! Re: The Dead Cat Tail Assassins: I read it and enjoyed it! I don't know if you will, it's a bit of a different book than I expected for sure. Re: The Truth According to Ember: It's a contemporary romance, which normally isn't my jam, but this one was good! And bonus, it is the first traditionally published romance by a Native American author, which is why it got my vote! Re: Heir: Apparently some people aren't aware, but this takes place and gives away the ending to the Ember in the Ashes quartet. So if you haven't finished that series, do so before you pick up Heir!

IDK if categories mean much anymore. I wasn't too surprised with Bride being in romance (had already seen some people getting annoyed at the idea of it ending up in Romantasy, even thought it is both a fantasy and romance and there is no paranormal romance category this year). As for Five Broken Blades, that is a Red Tower book and listed as fantasy romance (AKA Romantasy) So that doesn't make much sense. As for Faebound, I want to say I saw people get that in the Fairyloot Romantasy box, so I think that one really is. Also surprised neither The Wren and the Holly Library or Bloodguard were nominated for romantasy yet Blood of Hercules was.
People were annoyed that Bride might be Romantasy?? Wow, I’m so surprised, especially with the Omegaverse elements. I haven’t read Five Broken Blades yet so I can’t speak to that one but it being Red Tower is a compelling enough argument really. Faebound was in an adult Fairyloot box BUT from before their Romantasy box came out so…no definitive answer there. I wasn’t super surprised about Bloodguard because I think people ended up being so annoyed its publishing date got pushed SO many times that it ended up losing all its original steam…when I finally got it I was like, “oh, you’re finally here…cool. What were you about again?”
Ohhhhh I think you would like A Sweet Sting of Salt. It's in the fantasy category but it's heavy on the romance side, really should be in one of the romance categories instead.
And this is why I love you, you care about my emotional well-being and sanity 💕 (ignoring that I’m reading about a bunch of very bad people doing very bad things)
Okay I have a bunch of comments lol This is going to be a massive brain dump reaction to the books on these lists so PLEASE do not feel like you need to respond to all these comments!! 1. I have never read Sally Rooney either! But I have heard people absolutely RAVING about Intermezzo so I am absolutely going to be picking it up. I hear much more mixed reviews about her other books. 2. I have got to get on that new Laine Moriarty book. For years she has been an auto-buy author for me and I hear great things about Here One Moment! 3. I really really want to read Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop too... I read Days at the Morisaki Bookshop and it was okay, but I hear better reviews about the Hyunam-Dong bookshop (and it got better reviews on Goodreads). I am reading a book right now called The Last Bookshop in London my Madeline Martin, which is historical fiction set during World War II. I don't usually read historical fiction but I really love it so far! I am a little more than halfway through and cannot put it down! 4. I really want to read a Kristin Hannah book but I am afraid those books will rip out my heart lol!!! 5. OOH Madeline Martin, The Booklover's Library?? She's the one who wrote The Last Bookshop in London I just mentioned omg I am going to need to pick up this new one! 6. I have read a few Freida McFadden books by now and I always enjoy them as kinda forgettable, easy "popcorn" thrillers when I don't want anything too complex or heavy. Never really anything to write home about in my opinion, but a fun time nonetheless. 7. I really liked Listen for the Lie too! I gotta read First Lie Wins now! They are similar titles... with lies... so I get them kinda mixed up in my head. 8. I haven't read any Abby Jimenez either. I hear her books are actually pretty heavy and I am often not really wanting heaviness and seriousness when I am picking up a romance : / 9. You think YOU failed?? I failed!!! I didn't read any of the romantasy or fantasy new releases this year! I must admit I don't usually prioritize reading new releases so I end up really left behind lol! I am looking back through my reading list and all the romantasy and fantasy books I have read this year are from years past LOL wow okay cool! 10. I did not like The Ministry of Time and dnfed it. It was really confusing. 11. So glad to know I can read Murder Road XD 12. WTH I am laughing so hard at all your commentary in the debut author section XD This is the part of the video where she lost her mind, folks O_o P.S. I went back and responded to old comments finally!! Just in case you don't see one of them that's pretty old I will ask here too, do you prefer I email you or DM you on Insta? Both are fine by me!
1. You're more on top of the reviews for Intermezzo than I am, although I do secretly think her fans are both rabid and starved...kidding kidding, I love it when authors just get better and better! I almost feel like I HAVE to read her earlier stuff first now though, or I never will because I know I'll just be disappointed. Maybe I just missed the boat? 2. I always enjoy her books, but I don't know if any have BLOWN me out of the water completely...then again, even the later ones people haven't loved I've totally enjoyed and were four stars, so this is one I know will get read. The only reason I don't have it is because it sold out within hours on BOTM and I've been too lazy to just buy it. 3.If it has the word "bookshop" in it, I just buy it. It's so bad. Good to know I'm not alone. But at least you actually read them... 4.I just read The Nightingale last month and she will rip your heart out, do a tap dance out it, and hand it back to you in an a tasteful frame made from your own freeze-dried tears. 5 stars. 5. Okay, you're right, it's just anything with "book" in the title. 6. Yeah, okay, sure. Both of these last ones were horrifying but whatever you say. (If you've read The Boyfriend and can stomach Slug, you win. And after teaching and being a mom...NO. BAD. STOP. UGH.) 7. I got them so mixed up I somehow made up a plot for one of them. I still don't know what book it's from and had to re-record that part. So...I almost lied to my audience. The plot thickens... 8. That's what keeps stopping me too. I keep hearing how amazing they are but ultimately when I go to romance I want one of three things a) light, fluffy happy palette cleanser b) dark romance that will make me question myself c) filthy dirty smut. Emotions? Don't know her. 9. For me this was a fail. I did WAY better last year. I read half what I did, and didn't just read the stuff I saw recommended on Booktube...because I make videos now and don't have time to watch it. Weird. 10. EVERYONE SAYS THIS. HOW DID IT MAKE THESE AWARDS??? 11. You definitely can. Promise. (OH GOD I HOPE I DIDN'T FORGET ANYTHING) 12. I did, I so did, I don't know what happened...no one just let me talk without a direction, my commentary is terrifying, no one should have to see the inside of my brain like that. @@AReadsManga You only need a 3.5 to be nominated< so both books qualified, but Lady Macbeth is BARELY holding on. If you don’t mind, what didn’t you about Ava Reid’s latest, especially if you liked A Study in Drowning?
