When you said, "I think I'm gonna have a hard time picking a Children's and Middle Grade," I laughed (and internally cried) because, well... one of the dumbest decisions Goodreads has ever made. Simply nonsensical and slightly rage-inducing.
@@taylorgayhart9497Waterstones do a Children’s Book of the Month, so that could be a good place to find recs. I just don’t know how UK-centric the picks are
I am incredibly disappointed that the Poetry & Graphic Novel categories are missing this year...the year I got back into poetry and graphic novels! Your reaction to the Romantasy category ALMOST made up for it. 😂
Haven’t finished watching yet but had to pop in to applaud this 3-way split screen transition 👏 it’s so aesthetic and vibe-y without being time consuming. I love this edit. It’s edits like this that make you my favorite booktuber- it’s not just the content or the lovely length of it, but the strong edits and video composition. Go, Kayla 💛💛🙌 What a work of art.
Omg I love the concept and the strong start this vlog kicked off with! My favorite feature film of the year. Wouldn’t it be fun if next year, you chose a book from each category in a variety of methods (polls, stats, Rob chooses, book friend with most/least in common, us, etc!?!?)
I feel like booktok has ruined the Goodreads awards. Since it's based on number of reads, not quality/reviews. I used to use the awards to add to my tbr, now they're just whatever went viral. There's gaining popularity from being a great book and gaining popularity as a trend and I think the distinction's important.
Sorry Kayla freaking out about reading a fantasy romance is the funniest thing to me 😂 I’m so happy how well this reading vlog was tho! I’m happy that you got to read so many books that you wanted to read!
Kayla, I need you to know that in my 9th grade mythology unit, I apparently thought Clytemnestra was a great name and I put it on my "future baby names" list. I think everyone should be thankful I don't want kids.
Clytemnestra would be a very bold name, she is a very powerful woman in the myths, one of the few to ever defy the status quo. I don't think it would be a bad name at all, it would make a statement.
Love that you read a book from each category this time. Really enjoyed this video. Thanks for all your hard work; it must take so long to edit such a long video
23:08 I love Emily Wilde so much and I’m so happy that you loved it! I genuinely was so scared for you to read it because it’s like whimsical and a little romantic and I didn’t know if you’d enjoy this but ugh it makes me so happy to see people reading Emily Wilde and loving it 😭😭💗
I just want you to know just how much it is appreciated that you put out this content for us - it is always SUCH a comfort and I hope you know we see the effort!💜
Kristi i just have to say that you are amazing for sharing your life with us. I have found so much comfort in your videos over the last 11 years on YT. I have struggled with my weight my entire adult life and so much of what you said resonated with me. ❤ you!!
Can I just say I really love your graphic designs like the in between section templates or how you call it :b they’re so damn pretty and you always go that extra step for your content! ✨
I absolutely look forward to your GR awards video every year. It’s really my favorite thing about the awards to watch booktube content on reading the books. I loved this concept just as much as I’ve always loved your previous versions, I can’t wait to see what you decide to do next year!
honestly the most important thing with these vlogs is to enjoy yourself, and seeing what people gravitate towards is quite fun! so personally if you do the same thing next year I'll be watching
Now i desperately want to read Bring me your midnight. The nature walk was stunning. Also high five for your girlsweekend away from the kids. Sounds like a blessing. Love your layout work with al the categories and bookcovers. Plus shoutout to your husband in the parkingspace. So funny
I love this format that you did! I respect reading the entire category, but personally I love people going for things they really want to read. Loved every second of this long vlog! And fabulous editing!!
The Romantasy initial reactions including “DON’T MAKE ME READ THAT!” was so relatable haha. And this is coming from a full adult who has the softest spot for Twilight and Throne oc Glass in their heart 😂 If it’s not for teens, what is it doing?
I really liked this spin on 'reading the Goodreads choice awards nominees.' This is the type of challenge I'd be more likely to do, rather than being a completionist for one category + I got to write down a few titles for my TBR
I don't know about other people, but I had to move schools twice just in high school because my living situation was changing so much. I went from a school district filled with people I knew since we were all 4-5, to moving to a town with people I knew nothing about and had never met anyone in, to moving AGAIN two years later. It was really rough on me as an outwardly queer and neurodivergent person, and while I never knew anyone personally who went through a similar thing as me, I know that it's pretty common for kids who came from a similar living situation.
I love following you! It is so interesting to me how different yet similar our reading tastes are. I don't read any horror or thriller. My new absolute favorite is the Romantasy genre. I do agree that the titles get a little crazy with how similar they are. I also read Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Fairies because of your book club and absolutely loved it! I've already finished the second and can't wait for the third! Thanks for being such a well-rounded influencer!
i absolutely loved this video!! thank you so much kayla, i can always count on you to provide a fun time💗 (i really love lengthy videos so definitely didn’t think it was too long☺️)
This is such a good idea! It's a great way to try genres that are out of your comfort zone 😊 I hope they will put the graphic novel and poetry categories back next year
I always read footnotes after getting to the end of something, I don’t interrupt the flow of the sentence to redirect into a footnote but I don’t always wait to the end of the page
I always look forward to your Goodreads video. Loved it! It was so fun seeing you read Romantasy and geeking out about it. Also that 3-way-split thing is such an amazing idea! 😍🥰
I also gave Yours Truly 3 stars and I gave Practice Makes Perfect 4.25 stars. It was more fun and lighthearted, despite being a bit cheesy and predictable. Loved this video and seeing your reaction though
I know I'm late, but in the video you asked a question that I would like to answer. Before I was 21, I moved 24 times. I stopped counting around then, but if I had to guess, I'd say I'm probably north of 30 times now.
Emily Wildes is tied for 1st for my fave book of the year. We have very different tastes in reading but I so love that this magical cozy adorable fairy book brought us together 😂😂. These are the kind of fairies I love!
Really enjoyed this video, new sub! 🥰 I read a lot of fantasy, mystery/thriller, fiction etc but trying to branch out and even within those genres trying new things.
woo so excited for this! i've been watching your mini reviews on tiktok so i'm keen to see the more in-depth thoughts in the vlog 🤩 you've definitely convinced me to pick up Emily Wilde!
Thomas Olde Heuvelt is one of my favourite authors. So glad to hear you gave Hex 5 stars. You'll enjoy Orakel too. Did you read Echo yet? That one is fantastic for winter. Thanks for the recommendations.
I haven't read Throne of the Fallen yet, but I'm excited to! I love Kerri Maniscalco. Her Stalking Jack the Ripper series was sooo good! The Kingdom of the Wicked is her first trilogy in the world of the seven deadly sins, this is a follow up to that world. I liked the first series, but it got pretty wild! I also can't wait to read the new Rachel Griffin, I love her!
This was so much fun! I'm so happy you found so many books you loved! I think I've only read a couple of the books nominated altogether, I seem to get to fewer and fewer new releases as time goes by, ooops! Love you as a friend! Why does that feel nostalgic already? Lol how long have we been here for?
I have not read from Sarah Adams besides from the When in Rome series, but I feel like I've heard it's pretty different and I definitely hope you don't rule out Practice Makes Perfect as a future read because I think you would enjoy it. I found it so, so funny & I think you would have a lot of fun reading it!
I was watching the TikTok videos, but still watched this entire documentary - it's much more enjoyable to see you liking the books you read. Maybe do the same next year? Or does it have to be something different? btw. I made my own reading chalenge - picked up every ya fantasy book from the goodreads nominees that I own, read first chapter of all and read two that I found the most interesting. One of them was Divine Rivals which I ended up loving and voting for.

I just noticed it's an hour and 40 minutes long and got soooo excited 💟

I think this video is the perfect length

Same!! I’m so upset about it, I’ve always used those categories to help me pick out books for my nieces for Christmas presents!! 😢
I'm so salty about them kicking out Children's, Middle Grade and Poetry. It's ridiculous.
And they kept humor. Make it make sense

ooooooh this is a FUN idea!!

love this idea!!
Great idea ❤🎉
The fact that you didn’t even acknowledge Fourth Wing in this video made my day!! 🤣🤣🤣
You’re supporting the wrong cause

You reading a romantasy book in your blanket cocoon with the split screen editing is better than the Super Bowl 🤩
I think this is better because you’re reading what intrigues you the most and it still has the organizational aspect. 💜
