    Been involved in construction for several decades. Also taught the subject. Read many books and believed in simplicity. I must say that this is one of the best videos I have ever seen. Basic, simplistic and easy to understand. Kudos to you sir. You should be teaching in an Apprentice school. Absolutely great job. Beautifully illustrated. Thank you. A joy to watch.

      @@christinerameau885 you can order a complete 12 x 16 shed as a kit. No math. Just read the plans and nail it together. But if do not want order a kit. Then Math is necessary to measure and build it.

    I'm building a 600 square foot shop- and know nothing about roof rafters or how to design them, i have wached about 15 you tubes on the subject all say the same thing, follow these very simple math equations and you will know how to cut a roof rafter, well i say to them bull hunky. i was starting to pull out what small amount of hair from my head that i have left when i said i will try this vid but it's the last one before i call in a professional. GREAT !!!
    I love how simple it can be made, ...
    leaving all those whom invest tons of money into tools out to dry...
    meaning... it's not as important to have all the fancy tools as one might think... just need saws, pythogaerom theorem, calculator pencil, paper or something to write on like wood to make note and marks and measuring tape, maybe chalk line... (clear water hose ends with fluid in them for leveling) ... that is all you need, and most important IDEA of what you want to do and how to do it studying these youtube videos really helps, one really has giant advantage that all the previous generations of builders never had... youtube is a coach is like having GPS maps in your car is helpful to all whom previously used paper maps and counting freeway exits to your destination for turn off connecting roads on the way to somewhere else... love youtube and everyone taking the time to teach, many many thanks!

    I have to say that this video explained pretty much everything i needed to know about roofing and how to build one from start to finish. I've tried other videos but all they did was explain one part with out the other or they didn't include the small details such as adding the distance of the run and rise ALONG side with the base foundation. That is what made it make more sense to me in a way that it was so simple i couldn't believe i did some sample roofs of my own. Thank you kind sir!!

I'm just looking to back in my trailer and my truck to be under roof and my riding tractor in my backyard. I was thinking about just having a company deliver enough gravel to give me a base to drive my vehicle on. I did want to give it three sides and a roof and I am trying to decide between making trusses or just doing this ridge board with 10 ft Rafters on each side. I would like to not have any wood coming down from the middle to the ground. I was thinking of putting up four by fours in the four corners and one in the middle on each side but I wanted to have an open area in the center

    I can tell you right now I love the video and the longer I would choose to watch due to the fact it's more information that you're going to be able to teach me I'm 50 years old but in this industry since I was 17 years old I know mostly everything that there is to know except brilliant ways like this following the rules of carpentry makes this one of the most efficient ways I've ever seen in my life thank you very much for taking the time and educating me I can't wait to see what you have next

    Thank you for the video. On the raised subfloor where the wall line up flush with the floor but the sheating extends beyond the floor by its thickness. Do you need to take into account the thickness of the wall sheating at the C cuts?

    I love your teaching method! Two thumbs up. Don't change your teaching style. Everyone learns differently. If your style does not work for a viewer, than it should be the viewer's responsibility to search for one that best suites their learning needs. You keep up the good work. I subscribed and liked!

    Don’t forget to add for the sheathing which will be on the side walls, 1/2 or so on each side.
    You are giving some really good info, thanks.

      @gregvancom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good tip and only add this if installing 1/2 inch thick sheathing.

    I am a frame and truss detailer.This is a very good explanation!( we do precut rafters too).The only thing i can fault is perhaps a quick word on dealing with the natural bows of timber,and doing the layout on the middle of the floor.I have never seen a concrete slab that would be so accurate

    • @gregvancom
      @gregvancom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point, but that would be one sad looking messed up concrete slab to affect the roof framing layout for something like this, wouldn't you agree.

      @@gregvancom you probabaly right all i know is when we go to measure a concrete slab they are never exactly as per plan and the corners are often messed up

    This is great as long as you can depend on the foundation guys. You did mention chalk up some lines. Definitely make sure the foundation is square. Great video

      In a case when the foundation is not square a wooden platform can be built,,, actually that is what I'm planning to do

    Very impressive! Very legible; I don’t think it can be better than that; I’ve been watching many videos, and honestly, all of them, all the contractors have been very professional; but yours is the clearest that I can see, thank you so very much, believe me, you just gave me a big and great solution about what I was looking for; thanks again!.
