I remember fishing with my grandpa and he’d find a hole the size of a bucket and just keep pulling them out. I could be dropping my line right beside his and come up with nothing. The loving trash talking and his glee in outdoing me is one of my fondest memories.

This would happen to me and my dad. He taught me everything I knew about fishing and no matter where we fished, offshore, off the shore, in rivers, on boats and from the beach I would religiously catch two to his one. He regarded me as a unique combination of jinks and lucky charm.
I remember one day on the Lane Cove river at Longueville pulling up bream one after another only to be interspersed by the odd flathead. He, yellowtail, eel undersized bream and even mullet. All on hand lines, 6lb line and fishing very lightly with blood worms. He did not like rods, felt you missed too many bites and potential fish. Of course this was 60 years ago when the esteries were full of life. Time with your dad fishing as a kid is priceless.

I was diving in the Philippines in 1986 (17yrs old) when a big school 1000's strong easy of trigger fish (same as leather jackets just bigger) attacked us all over 30cm in size it was every man for himself to get back to the boat it was total chaos. Luckily we all had suits on but very thin suits they were like swiss cheese some of the guys where bleeding very bad the boat looked like a war zone. The local guide said they have killed local divers before most missing divers are said to have gone this way he said.
I have lived with this my whole life in 2017 I came across a big school of triggers diving in the tropics again and panic set in I had to get out of the water other divers had no idea what I was on about. The fear is still strong in my brain. I have no problems diving with sharks but big schools of trigger fish no way.
Love the vids and the new boat is great. You are every close to where I live well you need to go a few more hours down south.
Yea definitely would be a crazy situation. I’ve seen some triggerfish crunching up coral and turning it to dust out their gills. Scary if they all turned at the same time😬
Finally.. We have real fisherman on this channel.

That Gem fish? that you caught is what we call snoek in South Africa. It is a VERY important South African fish and is caught commercially on handlines. The reason is that it is one of the tastiest dark meat fish you will ever taste! Here it is traditionally "spatched" or "flekked" open and grilled for 10 or 15 minutes on each side. Basted heavily with Apricot or Peach Jam. You add your own flavoring, but I love to add plenty of crushed garlic and finely diced chillis.
As an American, “a kangaroo just ran straight into my car” is a very funny sentence.
Haha, yea they are thick in that area, couple ran in front of the car and one straight into the side😅 he actually did a fair bit of damage but I didn’t notice the spot until a day latter

Little tip I learnt wharf fishing. If you lay a long shank hook with a tiny bit of chicken beside your jig. I use a snap swivel.. the squid climb up the jig to get the chicken and you get them hooked right at the beak..instead of only getting the casting tentacles. You rarely loose one with the chicken on

We call it cabracho or escorpora in Spain. There are some very tasty recipes for this delicious fish,mi favourite one is "suquet".
