He claimed to be the son of Prince Francis II Rakoczi of Transylvania. He was arrested for suspicion of espionage during the Jacobite rebellion but was released without charge.
Julia d’Aunigny (1670 or 1673 -died 1707) - 17th century French opera singer who was known for her flamboyant lifestyle. Her father was a secretary to the master of the horse to King Louis XIV. The founders didn’t not talk about budgets. Your xenophobe comment is impossible to draw a logical line to limited government. Nearly every group of people from Europe arriving to the colonies was fleeing something. Whether religious freedom or oppressive governments. The populist movement in the US, Europe, South America is the result of oppressive governments. Too many taxes, too many regulations, too many bureaucrats, etc.

I would rate Coolidge somewhere in the middle (ie low 20s). Around where I might rank Clinton or Grant.
He may be as close to a ‘Libertarian’ President as we’ve had.
I do think there’s something to be said that ‘it’s better to be lucky than good’ in some cases; I think there have been several relatively ‘lucky’ presidents-economically and in foreign policies--Coolidge, Reagan and Obama come to mind in that sense. Im not saying those presidents were bad--only maybe a tad overrated.
Of course, purely speculation since we will never know for sure, but I suspect our country may not have fared much better during the Great Depression under his leadership than Hoover, had Coolidge done a second term.

@@mrp4242 I agree with the comment about him being Libertarian. If Trump wins and does a Javier Millei (drastically reduce the size of government and reduce spending) the country will quickly respond. I got my best dose of U.S. history in eighth grade(65years ago). That’s when I first became aware of Harding. Since my mother was 8-11 during his administration, I asked her if she remembered anything about him dying in office. She told me it was rumored at the time that his wife had poisoned him because she was afraid he was going to be impeached. I don’t think any journalists investigated back then. I am guessing that the attitude was that the pressures of the presidency had killed Wilson and then Harding. If Coolidge was investigating, why pursue a rumor that was seemingly unfounded?

Funny enough, Harding used the Star for his own ends (really the need of the people a few times) I am a Marion Resident and owned and lived in an old opera house in town. Anyway, the Opera house exists solely because the wealthy in town weren't going for it in the late 1800's and he basically started taking potshots at them in the paper until they told him they would put up the money if he would just stop. There was also the 32nd Elks lodge in the building that he was also a member of. It was a cool place.
