Oh my goodness! I can't imagine how worried/anxious her mommy was. That is scary for something to grow to that size in only 6 months time. I'm so happy Starla is well and on the mend. What a little angel.

I love they way she asked the girl about consent to lifting her shirt and touching her belly. Even though she is a doctor and it’s necessary to look at it and touch it it’s SO important to teach kids bodily autonomy and consent from early on ❤

Seeing stuff like this makes me think of all the suffering kids and people went through throughout time before doctors were able to do surgeries like this without killing the patient or those who weren't able to do anything about it. We live in a very fortunate time.

Dr. Emma's empathy for her patients, translates into real therapeutic power for them. Her skill and medical detachment is firmly in place, but the "human touch" is just as vital. Especially when dealing with children. I've noticed how important this is, with skin and other visible issues that people struggle with. Being cold and clinical may be ok for some specialties, but definitely not dermatology.

I'm glad that the mother and child consented to having her illness publically addressed because it can be a major aid to other parents who notice their children developing large lumps on their bodies. The video presentation was very positive and respectful and in no way exploitve of the child's rights. Well done.

Absolutely awful that the NHS wasn't able to properly investigate and treat this for her before Emma made the referral to great ormand street. I'm so glad she got to see Dr Emma but we shouldn't be relying on reality TV to diagnose cancer in children. Even a non-cancerous lipoma is potentially a problem serious given how big it was getting it could be pressing on her organs and making mobility difficult.

The surgeon had to make the incision bigger because it wouldn’t come out of a smaller one. On the stomach they had make it bigger so they could make sure they avoided major arteries and organs.

If you find a lump on your child, go for a medical consultation.
As a CRNA, parent I know how we are anxious about our children.
Having said that, children pick up the parents worry. The more outwardly anxious a parent is, the more the child will be.
Do your worries out of sight from your child.
When parents are calm in appearance and hand their child over to me, the easier everything is for the child and the team.
Nobody wants a traumatic experience for them.
