Actually they're both jazzmasters. The black one is a Ventures signature model, the white is a standard jazzmaster. Easiest way to tell between these and jaguars are to look at the pickups. The jaguars use a single coil, jazzmasters use the bigger type with a large square pickup cover. The switches are different also but from a distance this is the easiest way to ID. Saw the Raveonettes play in Hong Kong about a month or so after this video as taken. Amazing band, songs and musicianship.
Sune is a very underrated guitarist. He was playing a lot of metal in his teens before moving to grunge with Psyched Up Janis, then surf with the Tremolo Beer Gut. He used to be a regular at the Copenhagen bar where I met my wife but I never bumped into him.
@ssublime1 From what I've heard, the pickups on Jazzmasters aren't actually true 'soapbar' pickups but a different sort specific to that make of guitar. But yeah, beautiful instruments. I wish I could get my hands on one.
A "true" Jazzmaster pickup is built like a "true" stratocaster pickup (i.e. magnetised pole pieces) but with thinner bobbins and a wider wind. (Obviously there are other versions out there with other configurations). True P90s (what you call "soap bar") have flat magnets underneath and a fat bobbin with a lot of winds, so a lot more wire. The sound of Jazzmaster pickups is completely unique and probably the closest you get to a classical type guitar sound with magnetic pickups, which makes them seriously impressive for clean sounds.
