Rhaenyra standing around and doing nothing always blows my mind. The least she could've done was either mount Syrax and fight back herself, or fly her two remaining sons to the Vale and wait (which probably would've been the best option).
She could've fly quickly to the dragon pit and command and help with the liberation of dragons. I believed they just would've fly away, but who can say for certain.
Viserys II is alive and reigned after his nephews Daeron the Young Dragon and Baelor the Blessed. He fathered Aegon the Unworthy(who probably poisoned him). Rhaenyras line was rotten to the core.
Rhaenyra was so damn lazy during the Dance, she didn't participate in any of the damned battles. She could've went with Rhaenys to Rooks Rest but didn't, she could've participated in the battle of the gullet but instead her son Jacaerys did and died in that battle, then she didn't go with Daemon to take out Aemond.
Her dragon wasn't a fighting dragon, Syrax was a breeding dragon, Rhaenyra also didn't know how to fight and didn't send her oldest son jace to fight, she told him to stay put but he ignored her and went to try get his brother back and died and again she didn't know daemon had sent a raven to battle with aemond so she couldn't help in that either, she wasn't lazy but she did make alot of mistakes during the war
I have the theory that Larys Strong was the one who controlled and organised the storming of the dragon pit. Larys never left KL after Rhaenyra took the city , just hid in the shadows. The Shepherd could have been Larys’ tool to destabilise Rhaneryra’s reign.

Plus it would also explain how the shepherd’s support went from tens of thousands to only 300 men by the time Boros got there, if larys was propping him up and suddenly stopped it makes more sense than 99% of his followers vanishing
I kinda imagine that episode being a bit like the battle of the blackwater episode with the focus solely on events in king's landing. I think it kinda supports the idea that not only did they not ride each others dragons, but there is also some kind of other factor involved like telepathy or something
I first caught on to Game of Thrones via the show before I even knew of the books. So I use to wonder why Daenerys only seemed to ride and care more for Dragon than Viserion and Rhaegal. Now I glad I know there's a reason why that is.

Aegon III was put on the throne solely because he was Daemons son, not because of Rhaenyra. This was all caused because of Viserys indecisiveness, he should of just kept Daemon as his Heir and married Rhaenyra to him because their children technically already rule right now except they'd still have all their dragons and possibly more. There was a point where Criston was dead, Aemond was dead, Aegon was in hiding, and she held King's Landing. She had all the cards and somehow still failed. She says she wants to die a knights death but she clearly doesn't want to back those words up by actually risking her life and fighting. Also, she doesn't give a damn about making lives better for the other female heiress's and the bastards of the realm even though that's what she and her son's are. She's very self centered. Daenerys on the other hand is genuinely good, not a coward, has a stronger claim, more decisive, and is definitely a better ruler.
well, unfortunately, yes she was never been one to be of sound strategic mind. All that was Daemon and the other time was Lanaor. Thanks to how she was raised she's not built for war but, TBH that's no surprise given that her father was Viserys.
Before this part of the book I was confused by people saying Rhaenyra is like Cersei but her time in Kingslanding definitely shows the similarities (neglect of smallfolk and paranoia).
i too shared that opinion before i read the book, but i think it was clear by this point she was starting to really decline in her mental health and decision making ability
I find it hard to believe that it was just the common folk who killed the dragons considering how well armed many of them were with examples of huge axes spears and crossbows I feel like whatever was left the warriors sons helped

So if Larys did do this, it was risky abs a bad move

The conflict didn’t start with him but he was weak cause he missed multiple opportunities to postpone it further
