I discovered the Smiths at 15 in 1983 listening to this title ...to my opinion , this is one of the most beautiful Smiths guitar line ever , thanx from France
You can watch Marr doing various interviews guitar in hand and playing songs he hasn't played for 25+ years perfectly. He said in another interview when questioned about writing a book that remembering things wouldn't be an issue because he has a really good memory
I love how most people play the chorus to Heaven Knows differently. I don't know how many guitars Johnny laid down for this track, but it's definitely more than three. This is the first Smiths song I learned in its entirety! For anyone that needs inspiration to keep playing and learning Smiths songs on guitar -- look no further than this channel :-)
outstanding feel and execution. I'm gonna learn this like the piece of classical music it is, gorgeous chords and phrasing by johnny Marr, gellman, you did killer justice to this song
Well, I've just gone out and bought a hat so I can put in on and immediately take it off to you. That was perfect! I think you'd need to have a fantastic memory to remember all the slight variations during the song, I'm not sure I have that to be honest.
I'm impressed. You capture every tiny bit of it. So you play guitar as well as Johnny Marr. Please, now make a cool band with complex guitars as this one and rock the world. Thanks for sharing.
I used to listen Hatful of Hollow religiously as a sullen teenager. My dad (a guitar player) knocked on my bedroom door while this song was playing and simply said “I don’t know who this is you’re listening to, but the guitar player is really amazing”. Fast forward to this video that I revisit at least once a year, I don’t know who you are sir, but your guitar playing is amazing.
Believe it or not the basic chord progression 1-6-2-4-5 isn’t that complex. But the level of embellishment is off the scale! Johnny Marr is truly unique. Great job capturing the intricacies of these incredible guitar parts!
Heaven knows I am impressed with your guitar talent.
I see what you did there and I dig it
He did a great job, learn how to play this materpiece is hard
Johnny Marr is really one of the most criminally underrated guitarists in rock history.
Underrated by who?
He pretty much created a whole new style
1822138 there not really rock but I agree with you he is very underrated
You're right. It should be a criminal offence.
"Underrated". That word has lost all meaning. He is frequently hailed as one of the best guitarists around.
me at 1st verse: oh good, it's kinda easy to play and sing along
me at 2nd verse: mother of god Marr what were u thinking
I'll just do 1st verse again lmao this is a masterpiece
This old reply but I put the second verse tab on it u get this and wana learn it check it out
@@kylegallagher840 I'd love to check out the tabs for this, where can I find it?
@@kylegallagher840 please send me this!
Facu Simonetti doesn’t look too hard
Johnny Marr is like a two for one deal where you get a lead and rhythm guitarist fused into one person. Brilliant chord progressions
Darkangel754 truest words right there!
Hear, hear!
Your Smiths guitar covers are easily the best on youtube. I've favorited several. Just can't get over Marr's genius melodies.
I agree!
Micah Newman
Micah Newman johnny said these riffs came to him out of nowhere, he just picked up the guitar and astounded himself
Watch Daniel Earwicker. He is brilliant!
Daniel Earwicker's are the best....bar none check him out, and his own stuff is brilliant
heaven knows you proved me wrong thinking i could play this song...
Marr was so proficient at riffs and melodies. He deserves way more credit.

rip adrian borland
Even Johnny Mar said he forgets how to play his songs 😅😅
You can watch Marr doing various interviews guitar in hand and playing songs he hasn't played for 25+ years perfectly. He said in another interview when questioned about writing a book that remembering things wouldn't be an issue because he has a really good memory
You can't relax when your playing Johnny Marr; they're just no breaks. I like that.
The clean, jangly melody and tremolo on this are pure Johnny Marr genius. Coupled with brilliant lyrics. Contemporary music is so pitiful.
this cover makes me wanna try harder on my guitar. I wanna do this
This cover makes me wanna learn to play guitar
@@hayasky7115 best thing you'll ever do

What she asked of me at the end of the day
Caligula would have blushed
"You've been in the house too long," she said
And I, naturally, fled
Now i kind of hear flared lol
how does Marr make this stuff up?! amazing!
Was this even possible, I thought only marr had body parts to do this...

I just melted in my seat, this is amazing.
think you're the only guy who plays the second part of the second correctly. Spent ages trying to work out what you were doing. nice work!
How great!! Thanks! I'm a metal guitarist but love The Smiths and Morrissey and sing them at Karaoke all the time. Marr really was the best.
Excellent performance 😍

I like Johnny Marr’s style for the same reason I like John Frusciante. Harmonics and MELODY!
