Great video, as always! I think WLToys was going out with the A959/A979 models. After those and their 12428/7 and the 14001, they went a different direction, and it wasn't favorable to the consumer. The three brands you suggested are doing way better already, and listening to the fans. Keep up the great, honest reviews!!
It's crazy how bad wltoys have gotten. I remember when I first joined the hobby in 2020, wltoys was the go to "budget" brand. Now, they're absolute garbage.
Exactly this. Couldn’t keep up with the likes of mjx, rlaarlo and HBX. No innovation just recycling old models over and over with minor changes to make them look new. That very quickly got boring for a lot of people

I recently got back into RC vehicles and got a 144001, 144010 and a 124008 and love them. Not a chance I would buy this, so not sure what they are thinking. Obviously they know how to make a good cheap hobby grade vehicle.
I have a Wltoys 144001 that I bought 2.5 years ago and now seeing Wltoys making bad cars over and over is very bad. Not long ago their cars were one of the best cheap cars. After almost 2 years, I really want to get into rc cars again.
Yep totally agree mate, I reviewed the 144018 truck version a few days ago and it was very underwhelming to say the least, wltoys just don't seem to be going in a good direction with these new models, that is why I have no interest in reviewing this buggy version. They had an opportunity to make the truck a decent brushless version of the 540 brushed 144002 that released over 2 years ago, and compete with the likes of the smaller scale HyperGo but nope, they missed the mark big time! Friction shocks should be not seen on these RC's in 2024. Good look at it Ricky 👍🏻 🍻
Glad you agree mate. Its a real shame as WLtoys where very good for the cheap price a few years back but cutting all kinds of corners now and instead of making a quality product they are producing trash that no one wants.
If you want high-quality inexpensive (notice I said 'inexpensive', as opposed to 'cheap', because I equate "cheap" as "garbage") RCs, Rlaarlo is now THE company to turn to. I will admit that their customer service isn't great...but, they have been working hard to improve that area. As for shipping times (something they were fairly poor at in the beginning), this is also something they've really improved on. I'd even go so far as to nominate Rlaarlo as "the BEST inexpensive Chinese RC brand".
Rlaarlo and MJX are dominating the market. Rlaarlo are of course the more "premium" inexpensive brand. Wltoys dont stand a chance at the top spot with those two releasing some epic cars.
It's a shame because I love there earlier brushless RC cars. I got in to RC cars because of Wiltoys. My first RC car was 124017. Love that car❤ I still got it.
Right now pinecone sg with their 1608 pro and mjx with the small scale onroad basher (the 1401/2/3 ) and the offroader truggy are dominating the small scale market. Even arrma started having a good game and is doing pretty nicely! WLtoys just did not wanted any of that quality and upgrades and just went downhill
I bought a 124010 recently and was surprised at the difference in parts compared to my old 124019, just about everything was plastic. I thought it was part of it trying to look like a 3s Arrma Typhon but it turns out the company is just regressing.
I started off with the Wltoys 124016 in 2022 and that car was amazing. I still have it as a lowered street car now and it’s almost fully upgraded. This what I see here is just miserable. There’s no way they’re actually trying anymore. I would never spend my money on that even if I were to completely overhaul and modify it immediately after purchasing. Which I normally do
In all fairness the old wl toys trucks had glass plastic parts you have to replace the arms and the knuckles and everything with aluminum to make them reliable.this is nothing short of disappointing much better budget options available. Love the channel cheers 🤘🤘
That really is a bummer. Part of what has made WLToys so appealing is that they have always represented cheap entertainment... Good cars at a reasonable price to go crash and bash with to my heart's content and not feel like I'm wasting money or beating on something valuable. I've got 4 of their cars, and I think they are all great! However the 144010 brushless buggy I felt was/is an INCREDIBLE value for what you get. I was able to get one shipped to my door for about $90 USD, and for the price that thing is (I still have it!) a little screamer! I would GLADLY buy one again, and i just might if it looks like WLToys is in trouble. Even with this one though, I might consider it **IF** it were a bit less expensive. Say in about the $50 - $60 USD range shipped. The alternative is if they did a brushless w/ oil shocks and a 3 wire servo again I would be willing to pay $100 USD for it (Maybe even a little more depending on what the final combo looked like). But at the current price? No... The quality just isn't here even just looking at it as an observer. It NEEDS to be going at least 20 MPH to be able to claim the speed on the box. Then the junk servo, too small a motor, probably a questionable ESC... Yeah, i agree, this one is a pass. I suppose that part of the reason I still have hope for WLToys is that it isn't as if they haven't goofed up before. Wasn't it the 124017 that when it came out had a cogging issue, so they fixed the issue and came out with the V2 version of the car? Who knows, but like I said the last time, I really hope they find a way to stick around!

I’m the .01 percent that’s loves the friction shocks and the fake carbon fiber chassis, it got me sold😂 they should honestly be selling that at Walmart or Target, in the clearance section as well.
How do I tell the difference between version 1 and version 2 of the wltoys 124017. What are the visible dead give aways that you can tell the difference at a glance.
I recently got the a979b brushless and it was fast but it broke quite easily it flips it breaks everything but there is a 30 day warranty so that’s good could you give it a test it’s a 1/18 truck I don’t think you have tried it yet
Question for everyone. What kind of rc should wltoys release next to save them from going outa business? Personally I’m struggling to answer my own question. I think a 1/10-1/12 high end basher similar to the Rlaarlo terminator or the new Mjx 1/10 basher. Maybe take the 12428 rock bouncer and give that an update with the royal treatment🤷🏽♂️ like you said I’m sad for wltoys and I’m not sure how they can crawl out this hole 👍✌🏼
Not even high end. Something in the 120-200 range, 1/10th scale monster truck with oil shocks, metal drivetrain and decent electronics. As long as its affordable it will sell
t think they just stopped bothering about the enthusiast market and are focusing on the toy grade audience.....these things aren't good from a hobby grade pov but its a step up from a toy
Big mistake by them. They were only made so popular due to the success of the 144001 and a959 (maybe a couple others) they got so much media coverage from large channels who made them super popular. So many Chinese brands rely on youtubers and influencers to make their products known once that publicity starts going its over. the 144001 also grew a massive aftermarket following and became popular with the speed running community who did some insane builds once again making it incredibly popular. Wltoys wont be around much longer i just cant see them creating anything new or innovative at a cheap price to drive interest again.

WLtoys is going backwards. The one good thing about it is the body looks great with those colors. Friction shocks and five wire Servos should be outlawed!
Yeah pass on this and the monster truck they suck without the oil shocks. The 144011 is pretty good though for a little bit more but I would advise people to steer clear of wltoys now as there is better on the market from mjx and HBX
By far the worst thing I have ever used. My brother has a wl 124017 and it’s just one problem after another. Stuff just breaks or comes loose every run
Wltoys has maybe 4 good models (not considering brushless vs brushed to add numbers) all they jad to do is improve these, like what rlaarlo did and re release a 1:10. They have the buggu and MT which could have been good, had they once again just listened. With the rise of rhe Groms, and the inprovements to mainly mjx and rlaarlo products (excluding customer service) wltoys will be no more, which means their successful cars will likely also disappear soon....at least rlaarlo adopted some of them lol

Highly downgraded! The original 144001 had a much more powerful brushed system. Metal components and all for around the price of this (mine was £60 in 2020) this is seriously watered down and only 20% as good as the original car. My thoughts are they have done this to shift units to try and make some money as im almost certain they are suffering after MJX, HBX and Rlaarlo's recent success in the budget market. They never listen, never innovate and keep throwing trash our way. Bye bye Wltoys #shame
think they where trying to target the very low end budget market but failed. Their 144011 is only a bit more expensive and comes with much better components.
Such a shame, I really like my 144001. This is such a downgrade, never mind the shocks, it's also slow as hell and made out of plastic. I had an incident with my 144001 where I hit the sidewalk at full speed head-on and it survived. Had to replace the center shaft, because it got bent when the chassis flexed, but otherwise no damage. This thing though, well maybe it would survive just as well, but only because it's so slow.
I think wltoys is not bad, and they arent bad now, and also, this is not a bad rc car, it is just an cheaper version of one of the best cheap 1/14 scale brushed buggy, they are just geting an good and old “hobby grade” rc car, and making it more toy grade and cheap, wich is perfect for a poor guy or someone Ho wants to give a fully proportional rc car for a kid without wasting so much money, Thats just my opinion.
Problem is only so cheap you can go. Taking away the oil shocks are a bare minimum decreases performance so much and people will always be willing to pay slightly more for a much better product/experience. They missed an opportunity with this one.
I agree with you, but this one i think they made for being a toy grade one, but still proportional, they just wanted to get a good car and transform it into a simple toy, lets be honest, a normal kid Will be really happy with this model, he Will never know whats a oil shock, and he Will be really happy with the 390 motor, its much better for a dad or a mom who wants to give him a good toy without spending much money, here is a good example: i live in brazil and here a wltoys 144001 is almost 800 reals, (5,50 reals = 1 dolar) and the minimum Wage here is 1400 reals, so yeah, really expensive… now in aliexpress brazil i found this model the 144016, 400 reals cheaper, its still expensive, but thats the reality, for a kid this little buggy Would be really nice! They still had their good products like the 124008, or the 124010, I now they arent that hobby grade anymore, but you cant say that they are bad just because they made a cheap toy grade version of a good problem, this is like saying that Mercedes is now a bad brand just because now they made popular cars. I like the Brand and here in brazil they are 2 or 3 times cheaper than rlarlo or mjx, if they dont have the quality they have the price.

I can only do my job and say how I feel about a product and what would make it better in my opinion. The thing is friction shocks shouldn't even be a thing anymore even on the lowest end cars. Oil shocks cost next to nothing. Get your points and as above just my opinion :)
Great video as always. Nothing against you or the video but WLtoys make me soooo sad. They had so much potential and have gave us a lot of really good rcs over the years but they honestly do not seem to care about their products or customers anymore. Either way I will not be buying anything from them ever again if they keep this up. Every release just just worse than the last one! Love you long time!
Couldn't agree more! They are their own worst enemy sadly. If they listened to what we have been asking for they would have done fine. Rlaarlo and MJX listen and that's why they are so successful
There is already many 144 models and this is by far the worst. Cutting corners is fine but they have made the buggy unenjoyable and undrivable by not including a basic necessity in 2024 which is oil shocks.
I think the target market is parents on a budget. We sell loads of these kinds of cars and i think you over egging how much the "parent" market cares aboit oiled shocks.
Parents on a budget need to do their research because even my 5 year old would pass on this. For a few quid more there are so many better options including the HBX 16889 brushed or brushless. Mjx hyper go range etc. the old 144001 with bigger brushed motor and metal components was the sweet spot until they increased prices stupidly. Just my opinion of course but I wouldn’t recommend anyone buy this or the monster truck one. If it has to be wltoys the 144011 is a bit closer in price to the old 001 and is a much better option. Both of these were pointless releases with terrible parts IMo
@@beyondRC I see most of them caring about it breaking. Durability is more important for young kids than anything else.... because if it breaks you'll have tears.... and nobody needs that!
@@radio-controlledcouk very true, its very light due to all the plastic and for sure may even be more durable than the original 144 but i do find they just cheeped out a little too hard this time. We have to remember oil shocks cost almost nothing in the factories and i struggle to see why friction shocks are even an option. I know i keep banging on about it but even a young child will enjoy the buggy more as it will feel planted not bouncing about. I dunno mate is what it is.

I'm not including myself here, I like research, but I don't know if most parents would even understand the difference between oil filled shocks. It's not really a bullet point WLToys would put on the box or the product page... They're clearly targeting the "my first RC ever" crowd, so what "matters" is higher numbers on the box, looks, and cheapness. Johnny 5 year old isn't going to get a boner over oil filled shocks, but if the car comes with 2 batteries, dad is gonna get a savings boner, so.....
Naaah, they are done for... they could have ruled the 14th scale with some proper successor for 144001, other companies made brushless models, improved shocks and wltoys came up with this 🤡 which is opposite to everything 144001 was good at 😂😂😂
Wouldn’t want to speed run this full of plastic with no adjustability. Something like the 144001, 144011, 124019 , 124017 long wheel base would be better.

WLToys is BACK to giving you friction shocks. Their CHEAP vehicles aren’t so cheap after you upgrade just about everything on it to keep it running. Everything is designed to be on the hairy edge of failure. A 390 motor is waaaay worse than the 550 motors in their other 1/14 scale vehicles. Junk!
for just a bit more some really good better options though which will be faster, handle better and look nicer. Hyper go range for example, hbx 16889a wltoys 144011. These two releases where terrible IMO
You kind of can complain comparing these cars to stuff they have released close to the price range a couple years ago and for not much more you can get some really good reliable cars that perform a hell of a lot better. Not trying to be a jerk by commenting but these cars even for the price are not a hobby grade car. They aren't even worth upgrading at this point.
My guess is lack of funds. I dont think they are making as much money as they did with the older models. The 144001 must have generated them an insane amount of money with all the social media presence and then they failed to innovate and give us decent new products. Cant see them recovering now. not with mjx, hbx and rlarrlo dominating the market.

I honestly wouldn't by oil shocks for it, too much flex in everything and doesn't go fast enough to need them off terrain

Wltoys has maybe 4 good models (not considering brushless vs brushed to add numbers) all they jad to do is improve these, like what rlaarlo did and re release a 1:10. They have the buggu and MT which could have been good, had they once again just listened.
With the rise of rhe Groms, and the inprovements to mainly mjx and rlaarlo products (excluding customer service) wltoys will be no more, which means their successful cars will likely also disappear soon....at least rlaarlo adopted some of them lol
What’s happened to wltoys ?? 😮This is awful when they surely have loads of parts from their few good cars they did to include oil filled shocks and the bigger brushed motor? But then with all that plastic? 🤷♂️ It’s a shame to see as we all got a 144001 or similar and how upgradable and customisable they were.

Highly downgraded! The original 144001 had a much more powerful brushed system. Metal components and all for around the price of this (mine was £60 in 2020) this is seriously watered down and only 20% as good as the original car. My thoughts are they have done this to shift units to try and make some money as im almost certain they are suffering after MJX, HBX and Rlaarlo's recent success in the budget market. They never listen, never innovate and keep throwing trash our way. Bye bye Wltoys #shame

think they where trying to target the very low end budget market but failed. Their 144011 is only a bit more expensive and comes with much better components.
Such a shame, I really like my 144001. This is such a downgrade, never mind the shocks, it's also slow as hell and made out of plastic. I had an incident with my 144001 where I hit the sidewalk at full speed head-on and it survived. Had to replace the center shaft, because it got bent when the chassis flexed, but otherwise no damage. This thing though, well maybe it would survive just as well, but only because it's so slow.
I think wltoys is not bad, and they arent bad now, and also, this is not a bad rc car, it is just an cheaper version of one of the best cheap 1/14 scale brushed buggy, they are just geting an good and old “hobby grade” rc car, and making it more toy grade and cheap, wich is perfect for a poor guy or someone Ho wants to give a fully proportional rc car for a kid without wasting so much money, Thats just my opinion.
Problem is only so cheap you can go. Taking away the oil shocks are a bare minimum decreases performance so much and people will always be willing to pay slightly more for a much better product/experience. They missed an opportunity with this one.
I agree with you, but this one i think they made for being a toy grade one, but still proportional, they just wanted to get a good car and transform it into a simple toy, lets be honest, a normal kid Will be really happy with this model, he Will never know whats a oil shock, and he Will be really happy with the 390 motor, its much better for a dad or a mom who wants to give him a good toy without spending much money, here is a good example: i live in brazil and here a wltoys 144001 is almost 800 reals, (5,50 reals = 1 dolar) and the minimum Wage here is 1400 reals, so yeah, really expensive… now in aliexpress brazil i found this model the 144016, 400 reals cheaper, its still expensive, but thats the reality, for a kid this little buggy Would be really nice! They still had their good products like the 124008, or the 124010,
I now they arent that hobby grade anymore, but you cant say that they are bad just because they made a cheap toy grade version of a good problem, this is like saying that Mercedes is now a bad brand just because now they made popular cars.
I like the Brand and here in brazil they are 2 or 3 times cheaper than rlarlo or mjx, if they dont have the quality they have the price.
@@FelipeFabris-bc7kv I get it bro really depends on personal budget/circumstance. As a reviewer they sent me the cars to give my honest opinions. I Review 100+ cars every year. I can only do my job and say how I feel about a product and what would make it better in my opinion. The thing is friction shocks shouldn't even be a thing anymore even on the lowest end cars. Oil shocks cost next to nothing. Get your points and as above just my opinion :)

Great video as always. Nothing against you or the video but WLtoys make me soooo sad. They had so much potential and have gave us a lot of really good rcs over the years but they honestly do not seem to care about their products or customers anymore. Either way I will not be buying anything from them ever again if they keep this up. Every release just just worse than the last one! Love you long time!
Couldn't agree more! They are their own worst enemy sadly. If they listened to what we have been asking for they would have done fine. Rlaarlo and MJX listen and that's why they are so successful

There is already many 144 models and this is by far the worst. Cutting corners is fine but they have made the buggy unenjoyable and undrivable by not including a basic necessity in 2024 which is oil shocks.
I think the target market is parents on a budget. We sell loads of these kinds of cars and i think you over egging how much the "parent" market cares aboit oiled shocks.
Parents on a budget need to do their research because even my 5 year old would pass on this. For a few quid more there are so many better options including the HBX 16889 brushed or brushless. Mjx hyper go range etc. the old 144001 with bigger brushed motor and metal components was the sweet spot until they increased prices stupidly. Just my opinion of course but I wouldn’t recommend anyone buy this or the monster truck one. If it has to be wltoys the 144011 is a bit closer in price to the old 001 and is a much better option. Both of these were pointless releases with terrible parts IMo
@@beyondRC I see most of them caring about it breaking. Durability is more important for young kids than anything else.... because if it breaks you'll have tears.... and nobody needs that!
@@radio-controlledcouk very true, its very light due to all the plastic and for sure may even be more durable than the original 144 but i do find they just cheeped out a little too hard this time. We have to remember oil shocks cost almost nothing in the factories and i struggle to see why friction shocks are even an option. I know i keep banging on about it but even a young child will enjoy the buggy more as it will feel planted not bouncing about. I dunno mate is what it is.

It's not really a bullet point WLToys would put on the box or the product page... They're clearly targeting the "my first RC ever" crowd, so what "matters" is higher numbers on the box, looks, and cheapness.
Johnny 5 year old isn't going to get a boner over oil filled shocks, but if the car comes with 2 batteries, dad is gonna get a savings boner, so.....

Naaah, they are done for... they could have ruled the 14th scale with some proper successor for 144001, other companies made brushless models, improved shocks and wltoys came up with this 🤡 which is opposite to everything 144001 was good at 😂😂😂

Wouldn’t want to speed run this full of plastic with no adjustability. Something like the 144001, 144011, 124019 , 124017 long wheel base would be better.

WLToys is BACK to giving you friction shocks. Their CHEAP vehicles aren’t so cheap after you upgrade just about everything on it to keep it running. Everything is designed to be on the hairy edge of failure. A 390 motor is waaaay worse than the 550 motors in their other 1/14 scale vehicles. Junk!

for just a bit more some really good better options though which will be faster, handle better and look nicer. Hyper go range for example, hbx 16889a wltoys 144011. These two releases where terrible IMO
You kind of can complain comparing these cars to stuff they have released close to the price range a couple years ago and for not much more you can get some really good reliable cars that perform a hell of a lot better. Not trying to be a jerk by commenting but these cars even for the price are not a hobby grade car. They aren't even worth upgrading at this point.

My guess is lack of funds. I dont think they are making as much money as they did with the older models. The 144001 must have generated them an insane amount of money with all the social media presence and then they failed to innovate and give us decent new products. Cant see them recovering now. not with mjx, hbx and rlarrlo dominating the market.
