Why do southern gospel fans always insist on comparing artists against another??? Just appreciate and enjoy the fact that there are groups still willing to sing these good old songs! No they are not Johnny and Vestal , they are Karen and Brian. They’re not trying to be Johnny and Vestal, they’re just having a good time and providing entertainment.
Lisa Marie Roger that. Although there are anthropological reasons for making everything a competition, it bores me to tears. That said, this, here, strikes me as much an homage as a contest.
I love Brian and his group. I went to see them at a small church in our hometown and the experience was excellent. But -- the pastor evidently saw himself as a bass singer and it must be standard practice to show up a local singer with this song. Brian had to do it by himself this time.
I agree. They are having fun just like Johnny and Vestal did. Vestal knew Johnny was the higher singer. It was just good fun. Like the other singer kidding the high tenor that it isn't natural for a man to sing that high!! Lol I love to hear these old songs. Watch the fun contests. Watch bass singers compete for the low note is fun as well. I watch them do this one time. It was going well, its if fun. Then J D Sumner walked in stage to show the young whippersnappers how it was done! Hahaha Great memories
I have always been a Karen Peck fan. I always have told others she can sing high. Brian Free is a fabulous tenor and does a great job as well. When I hear him I think of the late Johnny Cook who was absolutely a blessing to hear.
I'm not religious at all but I absolutely love this song. And Karen was awesome but Brian impressed me way more because his range is incredible for his age!
I remember watching a video where Vestal Goodman and Johnny Cook do this song and Vestal couldn’t reach as high as Johnny could. This was just as good as that one!
They start in the Key of A, finish 21/2 steps higher in the Key of D. Both Brian and Karen finish on that high D, but what is amazing is if you listen very closely at the end, someone singing harmony in the background finishes 2 steps higher than that at the 4:56 mark on a high F#. That is amazing. One of the highest notes I've ever heard.
it always amazes me how they can sing that high and still keep going for the rest of the day. Back when I was singing tenor I would last for maybe a couple of hours because the group I was with wanted me to sing the high parts and hold it. One song I had to hold the D4 note for 30 seconds at the end of the song. wow I had to take a break after that one. LOL
THAT, sir, was incredible. I've noticed that as I get older and am not touring, that I just don't sing all the time to myself and I've lost volume and the control I used to have. Sigh. By the time I lead hymns, sing soprano (I'm an alto), my special isn't special.
David Phelps is super high singer by he is also classically opera trained besides Brian Free & Chris Allman, David Sutton, The Kingsman Qt. Tenors, Jay Parrack, Kirk Talley sing high like that
This is the Gospel music I grew up on. Real Southern Gospel music. I won't listen to the current so-called gospel music. Also watch the Goodman family w/ Johnny Cook singing this song.
To be fair, if you're going to compare Brian free to any body pick on people his own age, then compare. Not the youngings. The fact that he can still keep up with them is amazing
What would have been really interesting is if Susan Jackson (Karen’s sister) would have done the song instead with Brian as she is an alto. I think Brian ends up higher. “Precious” strikes again… 😉

It don’t matter who is better or this or that. They all are great. They are well known It’s a matter of taste. Or preferences.

Brian is the best! This song never gets old!!
I love these absolutely beautiful and amazing grace the Lord for them both amen

+Paul King Now that you mention it, Brian Free kinda sounds like Johnny Cook.
They were great singers for sure.
I LOVE Brian Free so much! He will always be my favorite southern gospel singer!!! ❤️
Two of my fave singers singing one of my favorite songs!! Love it!
I'm not religious at all but I absolutely love this song. And Karen was awesome but Brian impressed me way more because his range is incredible for his age!
I'm glad you liked it.
What an amazing performance. They look like they had a great time
He is truly amazing. Started out in A then Bb B C C sharp finishing on D. Just AWESOME Love this
I have heard many beautiful singer sing this song ,I always write positive words about the singer
That was amazing!
LOVE YOU Guys so much. I can be depressed and put you guys on and you bless my heart and I'll sing every song with you 3 fine outstanding MEN💜💜💜
This sounds like a choir of angels after listening to James Cannup
Love it. I like both singers they are some of my favorite.
Wonderful...he sounda so much like johnny cook

That note that they sung was a D3, however I've heard tenors such as Ernie Haase, David Phelps, Wes Hampton and even myself go as high as a D4
Actually that last note is a D5. Learn your octave numbers. D4 is right above middle C and D3 is eight notes below that
Okay im sorry i was momentarily confused however my point still remains that there are tenors everywhere that can go higher than that
Yeah even Brian can sing higher than that, Ive heard him hit F5s too and I mean these days
Bill shivers can sing tenor easily, that's why he sings with Brian.
LOVE this....Christians with a sense of humor....LOL :-) They're both good but I give the edge to Brian for sure!
great song...... love the voices love the humor too..... 😂 Lol
Always awesome 🙏🏽🐣👏👏❤️🔥❤️🔥🥳🥳🎤🎼🎼💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿
Wow, what great voices! My throat would hurt just _thinking_ about singing that high. :)
Terrific!! I have never heard a man sing that high!
that's nothing, look up Vitas dedication
Brian Free the best!!!❤
Beautiful!!!
thats so funnie,Brian and Karen, lol,,I love them all
Reminds me of Vestal Goodman and Johnny Cook
This is an homage to their fun competition. This is a time honored fun moment in southern gospel.
I loved both Vestal and Joohnny. There will never be another voice like Vestals
Love it
I’ve asked Brian to do this song many times. He laughs. Lol.
CinciRawk {Sandi Nicole} it’s been years since he’s done it
it always amazes me how they can sing that high and still keep going for the rest of the day. Great . . .
This is a good competition, but james cannup is the goat 🐐 when it comes to this song... He can wear anybody ears out...
Fantastic!
CLAP ON THE UPBEATS
Praise his holy name y'all
This is good gospel fun I enjoyed it
"Never sing this high... Comment on our duet... All our hopes renewed!"
I like "Come that's all we're doing!"
Wow 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽💜💜
You are so amazing
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
All of us we are looking for a new city
This song made James Cannup famous apparently.
He wore Brian Free out.
Awesome
I bet Vestal Goodman is dancing in heaven.
callhd KATIEGOFORTH
FAIR HAVENS INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CHURCH
Thank vestal

Brian is the best
Karen is the best
They both are best
yes they are good but Karen is the best
Hailey Johnson No,no,no, you are wrong. They both are best!
No,no,no you are wrong Karen is the best
listen to brian free and assurance it's the better version
So *this* is what it's supposed to sound like?!
Goooooooooooooood jop..
James Canupp said he showed up Brian free
I never realized Karen could go that high. She normally doesn't in most of her songs
then you never heard four days late
You have to listen to her with the nelons back in 1980's. She's a crazy high singer.
To be fair, if you're going to compare Brian free to any body pick on people his own age, then compare. Not the youngings. The fact that he can still keep up with them is amazing
She's toast!:D
Excellent ...., but did you hear glass shatter?
If you watch and listen closely, Karen gets thrown off, and mixes up her lines when Brian screams while she's singing her last chorus.
What happened to all that dark hair, weren't for his voice I would have never recognized Brian. Wow what a difference the years make 🤩👍
And James cannup said he sang this with him-
He sounds like Johnny cook
Old friends gospel group
Who hit that last note in the back?
vestal goodman did same with johnny cook. he won
Four more days Randall Buhler lol
James Canupp once wore him out.
Haha the Goat!
XD
Good fun. He blew her out of the water though :)
Brian is not struggling at all
is this the one that brian freaks out and has to say no mas because she kept going?
No that wasn’t easy!!!
Love both Karen and Brian but it can't compare to Vestal and Johnny singing this song
What would have been really interesting is if Susan Jackson (Karen’s sister) would have done the song instead with Brian as she is an alto. I think Brian ends up higher. “Precious” strikes again… 😉
is that elvis back there? lol ;)
Britany Stewart that's Mike Rogers. He used to sing with my brother's group, Kindred Spirit.
Mike Rogers is so humble. His hair is amazing. That’s bill in the background with them from BFA.
I NEED TO MEET THESE PEOPLE! (By the way, how do we even know Britany was talking about Mike? I personally don't see the Elvis resemblance...)
who sang for him
Brian White What do you mean?
Not a comparison really just think the original was performed better no judgements I LOVE THE LORD and all my brothers and sisters in Christ
How about Kim Hopper go against Brian
Kim is an amazing singer, but as far as range, Brian has her beat before she leaves the gate!
@@christineh7305 How about TaRanda Greene?
WHO HIT THAT NOTE IN THE BACKGROUND?!
tlp4398 I think it was Bryan Free. Lol
James Canupp.
Bill shivers
Incredible!
