NEW Orbea Occam | The World's Most Customisable Mountain Bike?

  • Is this the world's most customisable off the peg mountain bike? Senior Technical Editor Tom Marvin certainly thinks so. Orbea have given their trail-focussed Occam a whole new frame, 140mm of travel and 29" wheels. With their MyO program, not only can customers change a range of the bike's componentry to suit their needs, but can also get creative with the ability to customise the paint-job on the bike.
    Tom took the M10 model for two days of rough, rocky riding in the Huesca region of Spain, finishing on the EWS stages of Ainsa to get the low-down on the new bike.
    What do you think to the new Orbea Occam? Let us know in the comments!

    black/black gloss with gold logos is what I ordered. At 5'9" I tried the large and found it too tall, so went with medium.

    I love my Occam. I got last year's TR 29er and it's a ripper. Fast, light and fun as hell. Also has that exclusivity factor as very few UK riders know much about the brand.

    • @alejandromoranbarroso5494
      @alejandromoranbarroso5494 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no?. In Spain is super popular. However also some small brands of UK here in Spain are unknown by the majority. Orbea makes really good bikes. There is also another brand of the same region ( pais vasco) called BH. Which is also famous here in Spain.

    I have the Occam am. I prefer my bike over the new one tbh because it's 27.5 and it's more travel in the rear. 150mm in the front. Only down side is I couldn't customise the colour but it still looks great.

    • @eugenux
      @eugenux 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man...there is a massive difference between your occam and this new occam. It is not about travel, although the difference is minimal, it is compensated by the bigger sized back wheel; but no, the real(and important) diff comes from geometry!, check the reach, the stack, the ST height, the wheelbase. All of these concur to make a massive difference on the trail.
      What you have is more in line with the (new) 120mm OIZ TR; and I should know, as I have one. It is very funny when an XC bike has a better geometry than my (first) big mountain FS bike from 5 years ago.
      My recco, do the up-date and you'll feel the diff immediately, trust me!, new school geo is the bomb! 💪🏿

      @adriank.9254 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      As far as I can tell from only a few rides on the Orbea: The Stumpjumper is the more playful bike where the occam is a little bit more focused and stays a little calmer through rougher terrain. It is still poppy and a lot of fun though. In the uphill the occam is the better choice imo because of the steeper seatangle and the lower front. Both have loads of grip though and the stumpjumper is a capable climber as well, just a little more slugish. So it comes down to personal preference: Do you want the more playfull bike or really like the swat stuff? Take the stumpy. If not you're probably better of with the occam but you won't really go wrong either way (referring to the regular stumpjumper of course, not the evo)

    ''They've narrowed the type of rider to tune the bike for'? Bollocks - this bike is so capable that they had to tune it to handle an even wider range of things, but the platform is so good it can do all of those.

      it has the same travel 150/140 and slacker geo actually. The occam has a 66°(with 140mm fork) and 65.5 °(with 150mm fork) head tube angle. So in same suspension travel is 1° degree slacker than the stumpy. I wouldn't call it "little stumpy" exactly. 🤔💁‍♀️

    • @ragu4545
      @ragu4545 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Willemmoseley I think I'm alright with it. I got an amazing price on the Rallon and the Occam isn't available until the very end of september as far as I can tell. The GEO is also very similar, and I get burlier components on the rallon/it looks nicer than the occam imo. Let me know how the occam is!

    • @eugenux
      @eugenux 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I need to try and spend some more time on my friend's Rallon but, for me, it is twich-ier and more trail-ish than my Sanction(then again, there are not many burlier bikes out there); in my opinion(as a mediocre rider), the current rallon feels too light and "xc-ish" for big enduro bike. Since he got it, I told him that it would have been better to wait for the .2 version of it(more travel, slacken HA, plusher feeling bike); now, it also depends of what you are used to ..., I come from a brute of a bike.., he comes from road and xc. His biggest bike, before the rallon, was the occam tr(120mm); he is very pleased...I am a little skeptic and I'll wait for the .2 version. Already, the new Occam has a better geo than the current Rallon..so..🤷🏿‍♂️

    • @Rainyfeels
      @Rainyfeels 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@eugenux Why do you say the Occam has better Geo? 0.5 more STA with a 150mm fork? I mean you're not going to notice any difference between those. I test rode most long travel bikes this winter and the rallon was the most stable of them - I guess it depends on user preference and also setup of the suspension.
