Tolle Interpretation!
I used to see Carol Lawrence on the afternoon game shows when I was a teen. Never knew who she was. When I discovered she was the original Maria she became a Goddess to me.
True to the spirit of Bernstein's original, as one would expect from the former conductor of the New York Philharmonic. Born on the Upper West Side to boot.
To me, a stand out performance is what happens between the notes - the breath, the vibrations, the transitions. And in the case of the Symphonic Dances I'm looking for the finger clicks and shouts of "Mambo!". It's what takes the performance to the top 10/10. The energy, vitality, verve. That then needs to be contrasted with the sweetness of the adagio/Somewhere at the end, set against the doom-laden tolling bell from the basses. Brava! As an aside, finally I've seen an orchestra with such a good balanace of male/female musicians. Sadly not always the case - eeven in 2023!!!
I was soooo shocked because I missed the broadcast of the opening night, but finally watching it now. Danke schön, NDR Klassik. Hope to see Barber, Turnage and Gershwin!!!
Another excellent performance by the members of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and Maestro Alan Gilbert! Bravo to the principal viola for the beautiful solo in "Somewhere" and, likewise, bravo to the "heroic" principal trumpet for performing the many "high-note" passages on the standard C trumpet*! (*instead using one of the smaller "piccolo" trumpets)
Yes! Thank you for mentioning our fabulous colleagues: It is Teresa Schwamm at the principal viola (in "Somewhere" followed by our equally fantastic solo horn player Claudia Strenkert and solo oboist Paulus van der Merwe 🤩) and the "heroic" principal trumpet player is Guillaume Couloumy!
Unfassbar fantastisch. Klarinette, oboe, horn, trompete, kllarinette, harfe, violine, bratsche, cello, bass, contrabass,, querflötte, flöte, tuba, posaune, trompete, saxophone, klarinette, triangle, kazoo, maultrommel, omichord.
It’s a sluggish performance and the brass is out-of-balance. Alan Gilbert tends to be heavy-handed anyway from his NYP days. But I’ll also admit that this music just works better with a smaller ensemble like a pit orchestra. This arrangement is too “thick in the middle,” as my orchestration teach used to say.
Great performance. This music looks like such fun to play! Especially noteworthy are all the solo performance standouts. Bravo to all!
Thank you, much appreciated!!
Einfach großartig. Tolle Musik, tolle Orchesterleistung, großartiger Dirigent. Bravo!
Vielen Dank, wir freuen uns!

Amazing conductor and musicians performing Bernstein work😮🎉
Thank you!! :)

Danke sehr, das freut uns!
Brilliant !!!
Thanks :)
Both orchestra and conductor are very excellent !
Thank you very much :))))
Andreas Blau!!

Wonderful performance. Definitely defines the genius of Leonard Bernstein.
Thank you very much :)))
We are happy that you enjoyed it! :)
One of the greatest piece of music ever written. On another note I include the Abby Road medley written by the Beatles.
Bravo!!!!

Sehr gern :) Stay tuned for Turnage, Gershwin and more interesting concerts. Unfortunately we cannot publish Barber due to rights issues.
@@NDRKlassik Not a big deal. Can't wait!!!

Ui.
A-ma-zing!!!
😊
NO NO T O O S L O W
Claudia Strenkert, Horn, sound has “spin”.
One of the finest, nuanced performances of this masterpiece I've ever seen. Bravi tutti!
Much appreciated, thank you!!
Hello dear NDR-Philharmonic,
is this Andreas Blau (former first flute at the berlin philharmonic) at 11:03 Min?
Best regards from Bavaria!
Dear Alexander Siegert! Yes, indeed he is 🤩Liebe Grüße aus Hamburg 😀
The audio, and performance, are fantastic but I can't understand how this is only uploaded in 720p50!
We apologize, it wasn't possible in HD, when we published it. Nowadays it is and you can enjoy our latest videos in full HD :)
Interesting sidenote: this suite is an arrangement by Sid Ramin & Irwin Kostal, not Bernstein.
Way to be 100% wrong here.
6:20
Keine halbe Stunde Laufzeit?!
Nein. ;)
@@NDRKlassik Ohjaklar, danke. Das hatte ich dann nicht bedacht.
nice too see so many women on „manly“ instruments
(very oldfashioned thinking here)
Hahaha, old-fashioned thinking with an open mind don't need to be a bad thing obviously!
very boring especially the first part
prologue entirely too slow
