As a guy from Sweden, I had the same problem as you when wanting to build a custom mechanical keyboard which had to be ISO layout. If I were going for the KBD Tofu option like you then the pricetag would have landed closer to a GMMK PRO. What I did find though was the Keychron Q1. Now the keyboard does have its fair share of flaws unmodded but once modded(tons of guides on youtube specifically for the Q1) it turned out great and I love it! Maybe you could pick one up and try it? :)

Yea that is a great tip! I have thought about it, but I want to try out the ANSI layout before. But I think for ISO, the GMMK Pro and/or the Keychron Q1 are great options if you mod them. Thanks for the comment! :)

I have found that 21KB keycap sets have a lot of options when it comes to different languages, and even have some custome ones you can order.

As a guy from Brazil, it's almost impossible to find keycaps for the brazilian standard layout ABNT2. The L shaped enter key is already a pain to find, imagine the specific symbols ~^`´°ºª§¨ in their particular double text keycap, sometimes it's even a triple text keycap. If I really want a fully custom keyboard I'd need to change to ANSI layout, which is an almost herculean task, because it's only a small fraction of products are using ANSI, but constantly swich from ABNT2 to ANSI is so damn hard.

It is possible to switch, I will try it myself. But I guess switching from ISO to ANSI is not as hard as switching from ABNT2 to ANSI. I believe in you, you can do it haha

This hobby is a massive pain being from a nordic country, looking for keycaps with ÆØÅ keys
Do you know if there are any ANSI layout keycap sets with ÆØÅ? Also huge thanks for your content

Sorry for the late answer. I don't think so. Only option for that is to buy ISO and ANSI and mix them. For example, buy a base set + the ISO add on and switch the caps with the legends you need. :)

i wish that building ISO keyboard was possible because ANSI is a really bad layout. but im forced to use prebuild gaming keyboards because according to people making keyboard parts only america exists

    • @floriangladis

You can also build ISO keyboards! It is just more complicated and expensive. Just take a look around, the soldered version of the PCB‘s most often supports the ISO lay-out and from there you only need the keycaps! You can do it! :)

    Hey dude great video!
Just got my first custom keyboard the other day. I'm having trouble with using the "larger then" icons. As I saw in your last video you also have a button next to your left shift with both of greater then icons (< and >). I'm from sweden so we basically run the same layout but I cant seem to get it to work as intended. It only makes dots and commas when I try using it for the greater then symbol. Any tips?

Have you used the QMK or VIA software to configurate your keyboard? Because you should be able to very easily switch the config of this key in the software. Maybe take a look into that. If it still isn't working drop me another comment and we find a way :)

    • @KimiEclipse
      @KimiEclipse 2 ปีที่แล้ว

A little late but, if you can't or don't want to use QMK or VIA:
You can change and add languages in Windows settings and then switch between them with either Winkey + Shift or Alt + Shift.
The languages have different layouts on your keyboard (ISO-nordic and ANSI in your case) for Swedish and English.
when you hold shift and press , or . you get
      < and > on English ANSI-layout
      ; and : on Swedish ISO-layout

I gave up on getting nice quality czech keycap set long time ago. Now I am just struggling with finding pbc that would allow me to go with ansiso (iso with long left shift from ansi). The struggle is real 🤣

As a Belgian, this also really sucks. We have AZERTY ISO layout that is different from the French. Its impossible to find a keycap set unless I buy it from Max Keyboards which would cost me about 100 euros (with shipping).
If you are not American, the search for a great custom keyboard sucks.

You can't buy specifically for 60% you have to buy full sets. oblotzky.industries/ mykeyboard.eu/ candykeys.com/ keygem.com/ to name a few

Yes you can! You just need to customize your keys, with the via software for example.
