      Boxers ride very much like no other bike. The R1250R , RT, or the GS would be worth a try. Most BMW dealers are quite eager for people to try their bikes. It could be a nice morning out giving them a try. Let me know what you think if you do and Thanks for watching!

    Great review, I picked up my new 1250GS Adventure Triple Black with the billet shadow pack and other extras at $43k Aud it’s a LOT of money but what a bike and you live once, easy to see why BMW sell a lot of them. Fun fact the 22MY+ bikes come with Brembo front callipers instead of Hayes (wondered why mine had them).
    No bike is perfect but this is as close as you can get, ignore the reliability comments I don’t know anyone who has had any issues they are as reliable as any other bike out there, the shift cam tech is sublime! Besides if something goes wrong well everyone knows how good BMW service is, enough said 👍🏻

  • @YiannosG
    @YiannosG 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really am tired of hearing people moaning for premium brands' prices, today, after all these years. Haven't they learned already that that is the business model they go for, and it seems to fit their customers? BMW, Mercedes, etc, they charge a lot for extras, but you get what you pay for. Look at the small things for example, between a GS and a Ducati Multistrada 4S, buttons and switches. When you get a BMW car, you get something that is the best at what it does. IF people could find something similar at a lower price, would they be stupid enough to not go for that?
    Aaanyway, after venting a bit, I would like to thank you, @exeter rider, for this video. For it mentions things most GS YT reviewers miss, like, how does it feel to get on it and off it.
    Just one question, to you, or any one else. GPS concerns me a lot. If you already DO have a GPS prep, is the BMW's own satnav really that bad? Would GS riders think there is a better solution? (I already know about Zumo and that Italian company's adapter)

    Great review as usual.
    Odd that your demonstration model has BMW brakes on the front as my March 2022 GSA has Brembo.
    I think they were coming away from the Hayes calipers labeled BMW in favour of Brembos again.
    Totally agree with everything you said about how good the GS is.
    2 of my friends at ABR this year said it was 100% their next bike after riding the demonstrators there.
    I think people need to ride one before making a judgement about them, this is my first one and I'm loving it.
    They do seem to be a 'do everything ' bike.
    When i got mine I got the first service out the way then did a 2,200 miles 10 day trip on the NC500 and Isle of Skye. I was always very comfortable and the bike was perfect....I felt I could have done another 10 days!

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also met a few people at ABR, and one chap had his nicked in France. He was going to buy a 1290 adventure, I said its not a patch on the GS1250, sure enough he tried the 1290 and he's going back to buy another 1250 GS now. That says alot. It's like one, but just don't do the miles to make it work.

    In all honesty the GS’s have always impressed me, I’m sure for a lot of people the price will always be an issue but that’s life.
    I’ve test rode one a few years back and it was great however I’ve also test rode the smaller models (850 and the 310) and I didn’t really get on them.
    Hope you’re well mate

      @exeterrider  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching RB, yes the 310 and 850 are total different machines, aimed at newbies. Well the 310 is anyway, which I get on OK with and has great offroad credentials. The 850 I wrote liked but not a patch on the 1250.
      If you ever get to play on one, I'll be intrested in your thoughts.

      @@exeterrider On LC just be aware handlebar switchgear units can get sticky switches and need new units .I test rode a 2015 RS with a sticking info/trip switch . The exhaust integrated flapper valve can seize and exhaust forward of the muffler needs replacing at a 1400 quid cost..My NZ dealer admitted this issue ,so on my GS the valve was wired open, the servo motor and cables removed and a servo buddy plugged into the servo motor plug to stop fault codes .Rear shocks can fail .Recently my clutch switch failed. As a GS owner I offer this info in good faith, and bought my bike knowing all of the above .

      @@exeterrider Just a heads up that in the last few months my clutch switch failed ,at an equivalent UK cost of 50 quid . My left handlebar switch unit also had started to fail ,so replaced at equivalent cost of 358 quid . There is also a "technical bulletin" out where a 10mm hole is drilled underneath in the rear the shaft drive housing and a rubber valve installed, to allow water to escape!! .They also check the driveshaft for vibration,and if it fails the test a new driveshaft is fitted . And people complain about build quality on Chinese bikes !!

    I like the idea of these but they feel like riding a horse being so tall and heavy. The size and weight take away some of the enjoyment for me, and the sound is very uninspiring though probably easy to live with for hours on end. Love the shaft drive, cruise control, and I've heard the wind protection is very good. The money to buy one you mean? Yes it's big bucks, but it's a cracking ride. So many other bikes are similar price these days when you think about it. How your well👍🍻

      @@exeterrider I was meaning if you say anything slightly negative about a bike you end up with a comments war! I have ridden 1100. 1150 and 1200gs. I prefer the sound of the Africa twin but ended up selling that as I prefer back road riding and end up going too fast on faster roads. You need a bike that is fun to ride at legal speeds. Hence bullet, benelli etc. Sound great and only doing 50. Africa at 50 I was bored. 😁

      @@zedcharlie yes you make a very good point there. I feel the same actually, infact I have a Africa offroad vid coming up, I must admit, that was a little uneventful too. 👍🍻

    20 Grand for a motorcycle……. 😳. Alarm bells ring.
    This is why my next new bike will be a CB300R.
    Great review of something that for me would be completely unnecessary and uninsurable.
    Just too much bike, too much performance and too much tech.
    My wallet gets the jitters every time I watch one of these reviews.. :D

      😅Yes I know what you mean mate. When I was buying my 300r, I was very much looking into the BMW 310gs and the R version as well. Great bikes, but I think people who buy GS 1250s just do more and different riding than what we do. My wallet gets the jitters everytime I fill up with fuel!

    Seems to be a bike you could get into a lot of trouble, I mean have a lot of fun with 😂 Apart from it costs £18,00+. That would put the brakes on for me. Unless....could you out run the cops on it? 😈

      I ride with 8 mates all on GS from 1150 to late 1200, they had zero issues. Just have to wait for them as my S1000XR to quick.

    It's a big investment for world touring, if that's all you want it to do. If you're cashed up, go for it. For the the rest of us, who aren't? The answer, is clearly NO. Sorry.

    • @exeterrider

      I get ya but often people buy these on PCP and to be fair they aren't just for world touring, they are actually nice just for a Sunday ride out as well. Its still big money though I understand that...I couldn't justify one at the moment, but many in my position do..Thanks E.R
