"Capcom's releasing a new game!" Pfft... "It's that reboot of Strider you've been waiting for!" HOLY SHIT! "It's being developed by Double Helix!" God damn it...
@@TehMarche Well around the time before this game Double helix were know for making not so good games so people were apprehensive when they initially heard them working on this one, but this one and killer instinct proved that they had the talent to do very good games given the time and resource to do so. It's a shame they now belong to Amazon and have only done 1 game since then.... and that was in 2014
This looks wonderful, but I'm concerned about how he just walks through so many hits. He's a ninja, not a tank! The heavy knockback was one of the defining characteristics of how you had to play the original game.
Good to see Capcom keeping to their roots and fan-base. A game that fans of the original series should enjoy. Unlike what Konami did with Castlevania. It would have been so easy for Capcom to jump the God of War/Devil May Cry bandwagon with this series of games but they stayed true. Now we just need a remade/sequel of SotN akin to this and make the definitive platformer arpg and Metroidvania of the modern age unlike the shambles that was Mirror of Fate HD!
I don't know if you did or didn't like the new castlevania reboot but I will say Lords of shadow is the best selling castlevania so far. I'm a fan of the original but I actually loved the change. Mirrior of Fate although I enjoyed it definately needed a lot of work.
ServiceExpert86 Why do people keep saying LoS is the best selling so far when previous Castlevania's tended to be released on one system at a time and sold more per system than LoS. Symphony of the Night sold more on PS than LoS on PS3. Curse of Darkness sold more on PS2 than LoS on PS3. They released shipping figures of LoS a few months ago of approx. 3 million, but shipping is not sales!! LoS sold terribly on the 360 and on all systems in its native Japan. I suspect sales and the direction of story/art are the reasons why Konami relieved Mercury Steam of the license. I don't necessarily think 3D Castlevania is a bad thing and Lament of innocence and Curse of Darkness were bold attempts that didn't quite pull it off. Surely there is room for both. Konami aren't directly dealing with LoS (that is Mercury Steam) so why not find a further third party for a 2d as well as a 3d? There is obviously demand for it.
Well on the selling standpoint, Capcom had released their sales and quoted LOS as their best selling castlevania of all time(Shipping doesnt =sales i agree) And as much as I love these games I don't really think its worth coming out with these types of games at the moment. They just don't sell as well anymore and become more of a loss for their respective companies.
ServiceExpert86 I doubt Capcom did as Konami make LoS/Castlevania. I am aware of the statement Dave Cox (Mercury Steam) made but development costs outway this as it was developed for 3 systems 360, PS3 and PC. LoS sales are based over 3 systems. It sold 0.9 million on PS3, 0.57 million on 360 and a tiny, undeclared amount on PC (although it was released much later). SotN sold 0.97 million on PS and Loi sold 0.94 on PS2. The figures show, especially that LoS has been out for 4 years now, that they have not improved the franchise saleswise at all. Last generation was the first were there was more than one distinct leading platform and that a Castlevania game was released on both. All 3 sold many units with PS3 and 360 almost neck and neck. SotN was only released on PS1 in the west and Loi only released on PS2. Technically, if you add all the figures for LoS up, they are the best selling, but that is a somewhat dishonest approach and not like for like. It is worth noting that when Dave Cox made this statement that Konami distanced themselves instantly and refused to let him give exact figures. They simply do not stand up to scrutiny. I also believe that, due to the actors and orchestra involved that project costs would be sky high on LoS series.
I actually thought LoS was really good, i felt it was more of a progression on what LoI started on the PS2 than a ripoff of God of War. Though I'd like to see a new 2d one on a home console too. If they remade one I'd love to see Bloodlines redone with all new sound/graphics and tightened up controls or Rondo of Blood redone in a SotN gameplay style, like a total overhaul, make the game huge not just new graphics and tie it in with SotN remade all in one game.
Meh... not impressed at all. It's a shame this game tries to be Strider 2 with it's heavy sanitized anime setting and not the far, far superior Strider Hiryu (the original game), which was gritty and had a truly dystopic feeling to it. I'll be waiting until someone who truly understand the source material makes the game. Until then, the only true sequel to Strider Hiryu is Osman (Cannon Dancer).
Hmm actually i think is not that bad , you know at least kids from this generation will know how awsome Strider Hiryu is .Personally the only thing i miss there are the yells " ahh , hey " you know the voice we use to know and old ass dated theme that for me still badass
Orlando Marron yea i love strider XD a matter of fact when i get my hold anime buisness going on when i get older im gonna make one of my characters inspired by him =)
Ahh... I always loved Hiryu since I saw him in marvel vs capcom. Then played the old strider hiryu and then this one. I'm pretty sad that it didn't had a 3D enviroment... But... Who cares. Loved the comic animations, skills, combos, thats enough for me.
Capcom, thank you for fixing the playability issue with the BeatemUp in Steam.. Hope you can also do the same for Strider since it does not launch in Steam properly…
Ahh the classic returns, this looks amazing :D I really hope it's like the arcade strider where at first it's almost unbeatable but after time you can get good enough at it to the point where no one can touch you
This game looks incredible. We've been waiting forever for a Strider 2 sequel, and the fusion of Strider gameplay and Metroid-style world sounds AMAZING. Day 1 purchase on PC.
this game looks sweet, I hope we get customization and unlocks on how strider plays (like more jumps, better swords, projectiles, etc.) kind of like the game Megaman and Bass.
@1:29, why is he getting hit before he can even see if there's something below him to try and avoid it? The camera needs to be zoomed out some or enemy placement needs to be rethought. This only shows that enemies already see you in some situations way before the player can identify and react to the threats.
1: Captain Commando is both blue AND yellow and is even named after the company, yet no one's ripping hearts out over him. 2: Characters are usually designated as mascots because of their immense success and iconic status. Street Fighter single-handedly revolutionized and jumpstarted the fighting game genre TWICE. Capcom also references SF more than Mega Man to the point of SF cameos being snuck into the series. Can't say the same vice versa however.
I just downloaded this since it's free on PS + this month and within minutes I'm already having a blast playing it. Great for PS4 since I don't have any games yet.
So having completed the game and on my way to a platinum, I gotta say that it's a fantastic action platformer. I got it free but if it were $20 I'd totally buy it because it's just that good. The movement is really fluid, I love the Metroidvania style gameplay where you return to areas you can't progress once you have the necessary upgrades, it runs incredibly smoothly, you get all kinds of cool and unique upgrades to play with both for traversal and combat, the soundtrack is really freaking good, the boss battles are actually pretty satisfying, the visuals are pretty damn good, and overall it's just a fun game to play. If you're still on the fence about whether to get it or not and you enjoy these kinds of 2D action games then I say get it because it won't disappoint you. This game was actually reason I got PS Plus to begin with which didn't disappoint at all, and I've been enjoying awesome free indies ever since.
Row Blanka, No it didn’t, I believe I completed the game within several months or so because I kept getting my attention diverted, I just forgot about this comment and decided to add to it.
ahhh.....strider hiryu....the most famous character in his game Strider and famous usable character in the MvC series.....good old days.....how nostalgic....
I have this game on PC, and it is so much fun. Music is amazing, the combat in-game always pumps up my in-game adrenaline, and as a fan of Metroidvania formula of gaming, this hit me in a sweet spot. It can be very difficult though, so you have to adapt quickly to the moves and stuff, or you'll be punished ALOT. =x=
I remember coming home from school and my dad surprised me with the Strider1/2 double pack for PS1. Strider 2 was on Strider 1's disc and vice versa for some reason, but I had so much fun. I'll never forget beating Strider 2. A really cool game. Now they just need to bring back Megaman Battle Network.
About damn time! I know this is an early build but I do hope small details like the Cypher sound and the speed are tweaked before release. Looks damn good though.
You got Mega Man Volnutt and Zero in TVC, Zero in MVC3, MMX skin in UMVC3, BBA Mega Man in SFXT, which by the way, was something Inafune himself wanted, a crossover with Sonic and Mega Man in the comics, Classic and Legends games released on digital services, a fangame endorsed and supported by Capcom themselves and now you have Mega Man in SSB4. I don't ever recall Darkstalkers, Viewtiful Joe or Onimusha getting such treatment
I been waiting so much for this.. Hiryu STRIDER is 1 of my most beloved superhero from Capcom..GOD!!! I also forgot to mention the three Legends games that had been released from '97 to '00. Right after Zero and Battle Network wrapped up in '06, Capcom makes two NEW series in the next year with ZX and Star Force. Now, not counting the various spinoffs for a few of these sub-series. Mega Man literally has way more games than the entire Street Fighter series and its revisions combined. How in the heck did they NOT milk this series to death?
After seeing this, yea... Its a definite that Capcom needs to go ahead and give the majority of their older franchises to Double Helix. If the game fails you can thank Double Helix. Strider Arcade game is perfectly good solid title, just like Final Fight was a perfectly good solid title the arcade ports were the best. Arcade style games have always been the most exciting to me by far.
kind of miss the iconic "shiiing" noise everytime you swing the sword.
Everyone does. No idea why they left it out
Hey Capcom, please make a sequel to this game ❤️
Yeah we need more cyber ninja action game. Maybe they make one for ninja kamui anime.
This is a game I can honestly say I've wanted to play my entire life. The first Strider is one of my all time favorite games!
The first strider is trash to hard first nes strider
genesis had the best 1
God damn if i ever have a super army base i hope Stryder doesn't all come and fuck everything up and shit. fucking stryder
