    Man... Brad showed a lot of mercy and you could straight up see him giving a lesson to this guy. Showing him all the ways he was leaving himself open, it was extremely honourable of him to have held back and gone for learning moments instead of just taking all the openings he had... hearing this was a split decision is outrageous. And hearing DK say he thought he won after watching this back is just sad. He had a real opportunity to learn and grow. I wouldn't have held the loss against him if he owned it... but now he goes in the shit box with Charlie zelenoff

You don't tell an attacker/ criminal/ bully to "wait, wait, we get our 2-minutes in between rounds." I respect DK's style and methods because it's realistic for most men in general and women as well. Brads side, fractured shoulder from car crash 6 weeks ago. Also the promoters asked Brad not to hurt DK Yoo and to make it last longer than one round. 7 days of training after years out of training. Unfit really, his gloves were changed to basically sparring gloves which was unexpected as they didn't know that was going to happen so, brads gloves were like pillows. Then the ref was bias and a few judges and on the side of dk yoo. It's absolutely nuts. Oh and Brad isn't a boxer so, if it was MMA DK Yoo would done for. That's why DK Yoo messaged Brad for this fight at last minute. Dk yoo tried to played it into his hands. It just didn't go well for DK Yoo, we all knew that.

    Like Bruce said, "You have to train, you have to keep your reflexes, so that when you want it, its there. When you want to move, you are moving." DK's phenomenally fast punches were no where to be seen as he had no idea what his comfortable range for a punch without giving a tell was. These are things that develop over regular sparring sessions where your opponent is really allowed to hurt you so that you learn to stay focused on the fundamentals despite the fear of being hurt. I almost get the feeling that the possibility of making a mistake and getting knocked out immediately hit him right from the beginning just by looking at bradley's arms and he literally went into a panic survival mode. He was constantly looking to see if Bradley would open up his defence when punching so that he could try and counter but bradley, despite his size was pretty fast and knew what his comfort zone was. He was able to read each incoming punch from DK like an open book. Aside from that boxing needs an insane amount of stamina and you need to be in the habit of running at least 30 miles a day or an equivalent cardio to be able to sustain throwing 6 rounds of hard punches and DK certainly didn't have that.

  • @TreeTopPete
    @TreeTopPete 3 ปีที่แล้ว +245

    Good commentary dude. DK Yoo is a prime example of why training drills and no pressure testing even a light amount will not properly teach you to fight. Its like trying to learn how to swim but you do breast stroke while laying on sand, while your form may look good there are tons of variables that you miss from the equation.
    Even if he done an mma or kickboxing rules he probably wouldve looked like an amature in them too because the majority of his footwork, balance, strikes and head movement all are visably bad.
    On top of that the only time he isnt trying to move away from bradley he is either tbrowing wild punches or trying to clinch which he is also doing terribly at.
    I respect bradley for not being too hard him immediately. But it would be more entertaining if he went for a knock out in the last round to give people an eye opener about how you train. Especially when you make bold claims about fighting everyone
    Id suggest watching Ramsey Dewey's review of this because he explains exactly why this whole fight was rigged.

He could have killed this clown, yet he chose not to. Even the so called "master" guy who was destroyed by Xu had performed better than this, at least he showed some fighting skills, Xu was just much better, stronger and more experienced. But this guy here is good for nothing, I really cant believe he has students and fans and his own fighting style, it's a joke to even think about it. Yes... But are self defense techniques/systems, which don't really work in a fight-like situation against someone out to hurt you, actually useful?
    I mean, it's super dangerous to believe we can defend ourselves without having been pressure tested under "fight-like" conditions as it can give a false sense of security - and then when shit actually hits the fan and we need to defend ourselves, we might be over confident in our ability to do so and get absolutely mauled or even murdered as a result.

Bruce was very disappointed with his performance, physical condition and the time it took to take out his opponent. This was pretty early in his life. It was at that time he decided to train more physically and move away from traditional MA. Based on his physical traits it looks to me that he was a very hard worker, and I sort of assume that his style was a lot more aggressive than what we've seen here. You can see so clearly how DK Yoo fights like a beginner. Gets super jumpy and shaky when Scott gets close, that's how someone acts when they've never really been hit in the face before (because they've never sparred properly before). And that weird back of the hand parry/strike?
    This is exactly how I expected it to be.

    This was honestly embarrassing. DK Yoo spent most of the fight hugging Brad for dear life so stop Brad from hitting him.
    Brad was going very, very light on him, and was wearing such heavy gloves that he was practically fighting with pillows on his fists. While I don't have any real malice towards DK Yoo, I do wish Brad had gone harder on him just to underline a point. Because the fact he lasted the entire fight (thanks to the referee helping him out a lot) is going to be touted by his cult like following as evidence that he's a match for Brad. They won't actually watch or understand the fight, they'll just see "he went the distance!"

    DK Yoo's Jab is one dimensioned, and he had spacing wrong so that even if he hit Brad with his jab, it would be when he extended (many times over extended) his arm to the fullest which lessen the sting of a jab check considerably and put him off balance right afterwards.

    Good analysis, thanks for the video. The thing is, martial artists are not necessarily fighters. Martial artists don't pick fights - martial arts are for ending fights. Like you said, don't walk into someone else's sport and insult them. Ultimately, know yourself, and know how your ego will get you into fights.
    Martial arts have so much more to offer than fighting alone, and it's time that martial artists stopped pretending to be fighters and started doing what we do best: martial arts for people who want self defense, fitness, confidence, to study traditional arts and lineages, not win ring titles.
    Martial arts and fighting just aren't the same thing and it is foolish to pretend so. But unfortunately many people are quick to write off traditional martial arts as a whole, rather than just cocky people trying to inappropriately use tools for what they weren't designed for. My solution is to stop trying to compete with MMA and just train my martial arts... which are in fact "mixed"... I'm just not interested in competitive fighting. I don't claim to be a fighter though!

      @jaynguyen7948  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Glad you find your passion man. 10 martial artist will have 10 different definitions, so as long as you love what you are doing, you on point bro

    • @blackeroni
      @blackeroni 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      No, Martial artist CAN fight. That's the entire point of martial arts. You do not need to be a competitive fighter to be able to fight. The issue is that most of these Mcdojo masters priortize fancy drills and katas over consistent sparring and physical conditioning then when they finally get into the ring or street fight they have absolutely no idea how to move or react to a noncompliant attacker.

    • @muteqx
      @muteqx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blackeroni I essentially agree with you that martial artists need to be able to handle a certain amount of violent conflict.
      To me that's not the same as fighting - a fight involves people competing to try and beat each other. Yet my objective as a martial artist is to end a fight - if possible before it even starts - and for everybody to walk away feeling like a fight would have been a waste of time.
      This ability has served me very well - I'm not a big or imposing guy, so can't rely on size or strength. Everybody's body ages anyway, so it's important to develop other options. I've been in physical altercations but they all involved self defense, not fighting.
      Can you physically get out of a fight with someone who wants to fight you, and walk away, without escalating and provoking them further? I can.
      It's not a fighting skill though but an embodiment and connection skill, involving confidence, kindness, humanity and ultimately wisdom based on experience. Yes, experience and humility gained from martial arts practice!
      Martial arts are for ordinary people to be able to defend themselves without needing to be title fighters. Traditional martial arts are codified ways of passing on a physical, nonverbal, somatic language.
      If people don't understand the difference between practicing and applications then that's down to the teacher, and to a certain extent, students content to live in an untested fantasy.
      There are lots of ways to end a fight, including not getting into one in the first place, but also including training yourself to be able to physically end a conflict without entering into either a fight or a fighting mentality. You still have to test things out realistically though - can you do it under pressure?
      These and many other skills form part of the broader base of martial arts skills - a holistic collection of disciplines related to violent conflict, many of which are not directly related to fighting.
      Ending up in actual fights ought to be the last resort.
      Competitive MMA bouts are clearly a good acid test of a fighter but it's not necessarily representative of what works in self defense. There are no buddies, no bystanders, no weapons, no items of furniture or dark alleyways involved.
      I love watching MMA because its an awesome sport for fighters, and yes, it can tell you if someone can fight.
      But I don't need to be able to beat a trained fighter in a ring with rules. I need to be able to walk home to my family, when there are no rules and no referee. Big difference.

      Respect to DK for putting his money where his mouth was, and for surviving. But that's about it, he seems like a nice enough guy. I'm not sure which of the 15 arts he is a self proclaimed 'master' of include hugging, flopping and falling; which was his survival game plan. It's just my opinion that the deficiencies he demonstrated are not one's that would be fixed by 'a few more fights.' His style(s) don't stand up to pressure so he had to abandon them for the sake of survival. Also note Brad was extremely out of shape.
