    Try a lighter manger like xfce4 or lxde. Or a lighter distro like tiny core linux.

    Back in 2011 it would've been usable just fine. What you must take into consideration is that the web got bloated over time. TH-cam uses way more transparent elements, rounded corners and other effects and all of that adds up to a lot of extra compositing done by the gpu and cpu has to calculate all of the styling. My 2012 laptop with intel b980 cpu that has intel hd2000 igpu that i still use for youtube and movies used to be just fine but nowadays resizing browser windows with youtube lags more than ever. Loading times have gotten way worse over time. I tried removing all rounded corner styling on youtube and all of a sudden even old laptops fly. From scrolling at 15fps to 60fps stable easy.

    If you plan on using it on the road, you should use the old hard disk enclosure on the new SSD and the screw, or else some small movement of the SSD will crash your OS

    The thing that made Minecraft stuttering so bad is lack of hardware acceleration, hence why it used LLVM on the F3 info thingy

      @XVoltProductions  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      ah yeah that makes sense. is there a setting that needs to be turned on for that or is it forever cursed to stutter?

      @@XVoltProductions You possibly need a driver. Not sure why the GPU wasn't picked up by the kernel, maybe it's too old for the default modules. What does lspci say (may have missed it if you did)

    Use something like Fedora XFCE. It's simple, updated, and remarkably lightweight and stable.
    Mint's Cinnamon / MATE are practically just duct-taped versions of GNOME 2 and are slower.

    It kills me that you didn't put the bracket from the HDD on the SSD when you replaced it 😂. It should be fine, but if you're carrying that laptop around or using it as a daily driver... that drive has a very real possibility of becoming unseated or breaking pins

    Yeah you can’t expect much from a laptop with a dual core processor, looking at the laptop specs it only comes with 4GB of 1066Mhz DDR3 though you can upgrade it to 16GB Ram is really cheap if you want to get that I would get 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3L memory (the “L” is to ensure that its laptop memory and not desktop memory) I’m also curious about whether or not the SSD you put in was SATA III but the problem is the weak CPU it’s bottlenecking everything else.

    This CPU has a passmark of 340 points. That's very low, even for 2013. I used to have mid-tier laptops in 2009 that had 500 points. So for 2013, that's already slow. That's a laptop with the power we had around 2007. So it's not a surprise that it's so slow to run youtube. It's even heavy for Linux Mint's Cinnamon desktop (which generally it requires about 900 points to feel good). For such low cpu score, I'd use something like LXQT or LXDE. Still, youtube will be as slow. BTW, a tip: Chrome is twice as fast than Firefox on youtube in slow computers. And it has setting to utilize less ram.
