Ikea Rast Hack/Furniture Flip ✨NEW✨ “wood” Pottery Barn look oversized Nightstands Dupe boho bedroom

  • I take old Ikea rast and make them look like they came from pottery barn! A fun and quick furniture flip anyone can do! This is an EASY to follow DIY, I show you step by step how to get this special finish.
    *not mentioned in the video but I did 3 coats of primer to get my dresser white. It doesn’t matter what you use to get the piece white, paint works great and may be quicker bc primer is kind of thin. I just used primer bc I had tough stains I was dealing with
    Products used:
    Sanding sponge
    Famowood filler
    2 ikea rast small dressers
    Kills primer (or white paint of your choice) I like ovation from lowes a lot
    Ovation paint in satin finish in color Ball & Twine
    Clear Matte topcoat by varathane
    small broom
    12-3/5 inches Gold handles from Amazon (link) amzn.to/3xeyIMu

    I went back and rewatched but want to make sure that you painted the paint/top coat mixture directly over the primer. So no other base coat of paint needed?

    • @blacksheephouse
      @blacksheephouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      You might need to do a coat of paint if your primer doesn’t cover well but I was lucky and primer did the trick for me. Primer is more sheer than paint so you might get away with fewer coats using paint though. I did about 3 coats of primer on the purple dresser and just one on the white

    I have transformed an old (ugly) hutch I got for free. All of my ideas came from watching your videos. Only I used the hand broom technique along with your deck brush to soften the blend. . I also used some old paint I had laying around the house. I didn’t really care because the hutch was free but it turned out fabulous, thanks to you. ❤️
    PS please…you are not lazy by not stenciling the outside drawers as most other furniture artists do. As a would be buyer, I could care less about that.

    • @blacksheephouse
      @blacksheephouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m glad this channel inspired you to create!!! I too favor using the deck staining brush to soften it ❤️ I’m exclusively using 1/2 paint 1/2 clear coat as my “glaze/gel stain” now bc it’s so much easier to get the colors I want and use oops paints I buy discount or have laying around.

    WOW!! These look BEAUTIFUL!! Love how your daughter “assists” and is encourage to use those mechanical and creative brain cells. Personally I don’t like brass because it was so overused in the 1970s (I am a baby boomer) so I would have used black handles but I must admit the brass looks good too. I would keep this channel a furniture channel. We can watch both channels

    I was curious why you don’t take the drawers out.
    I used to take out the drawers and paint the outside of the drawers on the side with a cute peekaboo color maybe just a coffee color would be good for this piece. I did a gray nightstand ones for my bedroom and my accent color is yellow so I painted the sides of the drawers… Yellow obviously. Most people don’t see it but when they do (if I sold it) they think it’s extra and very charming.

    Shannon, I have a question for you. This has to be one of my favorite techniques that you do. I have achieved this look on smaller pieces but I just recently(month or 2ago) did this on a coffee table top. I m not liking the uneven stripes. Do I need to sand off the polycyclic in order to start all over? Meaning paint the base then the glaze or just get away doing the glaze over. Hope this makes sense. Thank you for your time.

I do watch your furniture obviously, but I would be more than happy to see you do room makeovers, decor shop with me home stuff on this channel. A second channel might be something other people would like, but I would like to see it all in one place just so I don't miss the other stuff 🤔 If that makes any sense at all 🙄❣️ I truly love the large gold hardware on those two pieces, but really the overall look is going to come when you put it into the room with the other pieces you have so I can't wait to see what you're going to do with these once they're in the room with your other pieces 💯👍❣️💯😍❣️❣️❣️

      It works great on laminate but sand with 220 grit paper and I’d use a shellac based primer (cones in white!) to give it good adhesion (they sell it at all hardware stores), after the primer is dry you can apply the diy glaze on just like I do on my white primer in this video ❤️
