Been in Idaho Falls since May 2023. It is not as affordable as I expected. My son was having a hard time finding a good paying job as well. The winter has been brutal. It is steady and long.
It was pretty affordable prior to 2020. You can thank the people that have turned southeast Idaho into a git rich quick scheme for real estate developers. We'll be California in about 20 years.
Born and raised in Idaho Falls, and it is so expensive to live here now I pay $1,200 for a three-bedroom trailer in one the most rundown part of town. Also everything is always closed on Sunday. There is not enough gas stations. Turn the cops literally hunt innocent people.. Just sit there and wait to pull people over because they are so bored
Currently, the cost of living in IF is 5.7% lower than the U.S. average and 10.6% lower than the average for Idaho. Everyone is hurting across the country, some worse than ID.
Thanks for the vid. My pre-assessment of location to so much outdoor adventures was confirmed by your video. Any insights on best apartment locations? Nothing seems new there. Coming from Austin. Looking to move in June. Also can you provide a place to find more insight into surrounding snowmobile trail and backcountry options?
Great video. Thanks for the info. IF on our list for retirement locations (from hot+humid+ridiculous property taxes Tx🤣) and this was very helpful! Unfortunately, airport expansion STILL hasn't begun. Locals say current traffic doesn't warrant it yet, but the land is there for expansion.
Idaho Falls is the most expensive place I have ever lived in my entire life. I am looking to move out of Idaho Falls to different state just because cost-of-living is so high and there’s so many apartment buildings going up and what not there’s also turning around and not standing by its farmers, big corporations are trying to take away the water which means power will increase cost of living exponentially if you want to cometo Idaho falls and spend all your money in apartment building not having anything else please come
Not sure you'll find anything better when you actually start researching it. Currently, the cost of living in IF is 5.7% lower than the U.S. average and 10.6% lower than the average for Idaho.
Also important to know from someone who lived here their whole life schooling that’s not higher education is horrible because all the schools are like falling in on themselves and most of the money goes towards sports and not the schools education itself
The outdoor activities, low crime, small town feel. I could go on. I stayed in Meridian,Eagle area to spread out for me. Twin Falls was Nice as well. I went through Idaho Falls coming back from a trip to Yellowstone.Looking to retire in a few years and want to do photography as a hobby...... what better place. Its the gateway to so much.
I'm a school bus driver around this area. I said "oh my god" one time and my most challenging middle schoolers (aka the ones who sit in the back and are loud) called me out for profanity. They got pretty upset... 😅
Born and raised in Idaho Falls. I live in Shelley now. The cost of living is high and wages aren't high enough to make up for it. It takes multiple incomes to barely make ends meet. I bought my house before homes tripled in price. I'm not sure how kids right out of high school can afford to live on their own. Maybe if 6 of them live in a studio apartment.
My family and I are so ready to move out of Idaho Falls. Everything you are saying is DEFINITELY for up class kiddo. The funniest thing you said about this town is “charm”! What charm? Everyone is so angry from the road construction and they speed through the streets so they can get to there 9-5. You’re hilarious. Live what we have to live and afford groceries from our Walmart off S. Utah street (might have construction soon) before we have 14 months worth of snow soon
@@anthonycosentino463 I'd start by reaching out to some companies. This is the number one rated one in Idaho Falls - www.fastsigns.com/idaho-falls-id/?GMB& The towns population is roughly 66,000 and you have some other surrounding towns. Not sure how this compares to where you currently live and work. Hope that helps
You were wise to look elsewhere. I was born and raised in Idaho Falls which is very Mormon dominated. I left there over fifteen years ago and when I look at it now it looks like nothing but sprawl as far as you can see. My kids were treated like outsiders as soon as the neighbors found out we weren't Mormon. It is also extremely ultra-conservative and clickish. I would never move back to that place and if you hate wind you will hate Idaho Falls as well.
As far as I’m concerned, making a video and showing a listing in the 2nd most Mormon city in the world, Shelley, while not mentioning Mormons is very misleading and potentially, extremely damaging to a family considering such a move. Probably not from Idaho Falls area or just doesn’t care.
@@livinginidahoit must be the abundance of the hydro electric power that has many high tech companies relocating to Idaho Falls and that attracts highly skilled/educated workers to Idaho Falls; and now there’s a housing shortage with increased rents.
So since hes not telling you ill tell you average rent here for a one bedroom can range from cheaply 900 or an average non slum lord (we have LOTS OF THOSE) 1200. Housing is VERY limited. House prices have skyrocketed. Due to the farmer problem we have food prices are insane and lots of people are using food banks. To not be living penny to penny afford it here you need to be making atleast 4k to 5k a month average job pay here is 10$ an hour. Most will not pay over time or benefits.

As someone from IF, the biggest con is how expensive we are, life quality is great, but we're really expensive

Crime is rising and outdoor spaces are diminishing. It was great 20 years ago.
It seems like thats also accurate about the EU. Stuff was great 15-20 years ago. Now....not so much.
That happens when you grow as a city though
Great job

Depends on what you think expensive is…

Nope

Idaho Falls has a large percentage of LDS. I have a daughter in high school and didn't want her to be an outsider so we looked elsewhere in Idaho.
