Bill Russell the all around greatest Basketball winner bar none. On top of that he was brilliant, funny, knowledgeable, and so much more. This was a great interview.
Look at players in terms and of all the things they did to give their team an edge. Russell’s rebounding, but not just that alone; it was also his quick outlet pass to start the scoring machine called the fast break. It was his shot-blocking; but blocking it inbounds, often to a teammate. Add Russell owning the paint, his uncommon leadership …. Lots of ways he gave his team an edge. No one who ever played the game did all the things Russell did. He was the very best at making defense the key to offense.
Re: Bill Russell’s stats. Blocks weren’t even recorded back in his day. But someone should try this : Count ever one of his rebound outlet passes that led to a Celtics score as half an assist; count every defensive block to a teammate that led to a Celtics score as half an assist. Then see what his assist numbers look like.

He fit better because he had just enough to fit into the equation while Wilt simply had too much. Again that my humble opinion. Either way they're my top two as well and they earned it the hard way. They weren't cheated for, but against. Unlike a few on that top 10 list.
The definition of a tall guy should still be 6 foot 8 or over. Elvin Hayes, Dominique Wilkins, and Karl Malone are the threshold to tall guys.
The person who wrote the closed captions didn't understand what Russ was saying at all.
There’s a reason Boston won eight straight titles…….bill Russell!
Exactly how did Russell explain this? He dedicates his book to Chamberlain. So, is it Wilt or himself?
Russell 11-12 91% 0 fmvps
1969 lost finals mvp to Jerry West who was on the losing team.
Terrible free throws
Average at best offensively
MJ 6-6 100% FINALS 6-6 100% FMVPS
No weaknesses
Highest ppg 33.6 in the NBA FINALS ever,
against the very best
But couldn’t beat a crippled Larry Bird!!! 0 and 6! Goat my ass
If the centers from 1965 -1975 played in JORDAN ERA HE WOULD NOT SCORED AS MUCH. THE CENTERS OF THAT ERA WERE BETTER ATHLETE ,AND GREATER DEFENDERS.FACTS.
@@cecildison6788 Russell had 5 HOF on his team, bird had 5 HOF on his team, how many did mj have those years? Thats what I thought thanks 👍
MJ totally overrated… Y’all just look at videos.
@@sonnyblack7226 Russell had more than 5 HOF on his teams, but that's besides the point. Russell was on the greatest team of all time, Wilt Chamberlain is the Greatest player of all time, if you don't believe it, check the Record books.
Russell's offensive game was not as good as Wilt's or Jabbar's. Didn't Russell have a great supporting cast as well, a bit better than Chamberlain? This is a bit before my time though so it's a genuine question.
Bill is count the ringd
Typical Charlie Rose that he steamrolls right through Wilt Chamberlain.
It was Wilt Chamberlain or pistol Pete Maravich before the injury period end of discussion there's myths about Pete and Wilt that make people not care to watch them.
Make team better
No one has won more than Bill Russell. He is the winningist player in any sport. " THE GREAT BILL RUSSELL" MAY THE LORD REST YOUR SOUL
11 rings, 0 FMVPS 😂
The award didn't start til his last season.
goat is jabbar. russel 2nd.
always loved his laugh pick it out in a crowd
Guys I know we all love and enjoy this channel, but we're not supporting the channel by a simple likes and sharing with fellows.
Do a little research most of bill Russell's ring were won when theres was only 8 teams in the league. He gets alota goat talk. I dont think it's deserved. Because of the lack of competition he played against. The nba before the 70s wasnt much to talk about.
Would you like to go on my progarm and go over what you wrote?
Michael Jordan isn't a pimple on my ass compared to this guy what a great person he's been I miss him
Russell couldn't score. Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Kareem were better. I would even put Magic and Steph Curry ahead of Russell. Lebron and Russell are about equal, and a notch above Wilt.
W 🏀 I 🏀 L 🏀 T
...is the 🐐, it's NOT even close. Do some homework & drop the juvenille bias. 📚
Steph Curry doesn't even belong in the same sentence
Russell could score, he did it in college. But he was a better defender. He was College player of the year twice.

AND❓️...other than all the championships the Celtic Dynasty won. Let Wilt swap places & they'd still be winning em.
@@loilt5091 I don't know about that, because Wilt spent 5 years on the Lakers surrounded by HOF talent such as Jerry West and Elgin Baylor but was only able to win 1 championship with the Lakers. People think you can just plug and play players from one team to another and that you automatically win, that is not always the case. There is such a thing as team chemistry. Bill Russell was like a coach on the floor, and he even was the player coach for 2 of their 11 championships.
I would pick Wilt. Russell played before free agency.
Bill Russell was the greatest team player but Chamberlain was the greatest player ever
