I was so depressed for the past few hours that I wasn`t able to find the way to add a 3D character to the mocap data and you just saved my day and enthusiasm to continue. THANK YOU!!!
For those who wondering how to do this on blender, it's not easy. I tried so many ways and this is what worked for me. If your model is multiple object then combine it into one . Then delete any existing armature, you only want your character in the scene. Then export your file into obj , trying to do it to zip, fbx , didn't work for me . If it's textured already, don't worry about it right now . After you export it into obj. Go to mixamo. And create an account Then you'll be in a upload page , where you can go to your folder and choose your character, remember that only obj worked for me. Then use the autorig and rig it and then search for a T pose and click on it. It will add that pose to the character. Then download the file. Then open the challenge file provided by Clint , go to t pose . Which is frame 0 , important your obj character. Then scale it according to the original character. Then select your character armature and go to pose mode , then select a single bone . For example the head . Then go to bone constraints and add copy rotation. Select the target as the animated rig then select the forearm bone of that armature. The reason why you need to do this before you re map your armature to the animation is to align the bones to the base one. So you'll have to do that step for every bone for better remapping. After that align both armature together like on top of eachother. Then you'll need to go download rokoko blender addon . Download the zip. Enable it in user preferences. Then refresh. And go to the properties tab , click on rokoko . Sin up with your account, then log in . And start recording. Select your target rig . Then select your character armature rig . Click on build bones list, then click retarget :) Hope it helps. I'm a noob and I know how frustrated I was trying to do this. Btw when you play the animation you'll see the legs kind of intersecting,dw you can't do anything about it. I think it's something with the original animation. Good luck
Clint, keep going. I’ve been following you for a while now. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Just keep going even if it’s not perfect - because it will never be. Perfection is the enemy of progress.
I love the live streams and longer videos but I really have to commit to that time since I like to follow the instructions closely. This shorter video is much more approachable and was nice to watch while drinking coffee.
This was literally the next part of my render to figure out. Helpful concepts for sure, will aid me with what I should be googling when trying in blender too.
Just did that in UE4 at like 3am in the morning, also split up my mesh into two and attached the backpack I had with a a socket, I don't think I'll win anything but I like my concept and I'm learning quite a bit from this challenge.
Is it possible to do this workflow with a non humanoid character? I have fps arms(with bones) and I want to use another simllar mesh with same bones to follow the fps arms as a reference. I’ve been doing this manually but would be amazing if it would work like this vidoe
Holy sweet bouncing bunnies, this is something I've been trying to figure out for so damn long and didn't know that this method even existed. This helps so much! Thank you Clint!
I had an absolute nightmare trying to do this for 3ds max, ate into SOOO much more of my time than I expected. But hopefully I can be faster next time.
I love this style of video but def like the long forms too! I was kind of surprised at the workflow to rig a skeleton in C4D. I use Blender and I found this very interesting and I still learned some stuff.
Haha, like others have said, would have been really useful about 6 hours ago but it’s always good to figure these issues out yourself :) The adjustment layer was great addition though, thanks!!!
I can not move/change my arm joints.. there are always snapping back in position. only the fore arm and the hand are moving. :/ I need to get the arm up.. somebody an idea? C4d r23
Maybe the problem has already been solved but in doubt, I say it anyway. If like me you want to do the challenge 4 months late and you use the 3DSMAX scene. You must put the root "DO NOT TOUCH" in the skin otherwise the animation export will be broken ;)
Bro download and install the rokoko studio addon on blender its free then use use it to retarget the animation from one rig to another its so simple. *You must signin before using*
Still trying to work out how to do that in blender without manually renaming every single bone in my imported character's rig. I'LL DO IT EVENTUALLY D:
Must be some mixamo to blender tutorials out there (or whatever it's called). Very cool though wish I'd seen this earlier so I could have considered participating.
I've been trying to figure this shit out for like a year, doing all kinda of janky workarounds and keyframing nonsense to modify/combine mocap data. It's so hard to find info about this, excellent video.
My team and I are getting ready to shoot my monster movie thesis film and your videos have taught me so much! Just started working with the Arnold renderer and am loving it!
We would like to have a tutorial regarding, How to create detailed ground textures on our scene in Blender. It would be highly appreciated, Thanks Clint
I found out the answer, but hopefully you did too since then :))! The Mixamo take was locked. To unlock a take, select it in the Timeline or Take Manager, right-click, and choose Unlock Take. And then it's not greyed out anymore. Maybe this will be of some use to someone.
Everything worked from this tutorial except when I go to add a motion clip it will not let me rotate. Weird it lets me keyframe position but not rotation?
IF ANYONE HAS THIS ISSUE: Your full model skeleton is not extracted in C4D ... You have to manually do the extraction by dropping the right Skeleton rig parts onto the manager of your character definition and extract one by one :)
