Love it. “But go back to Idaho”. Awesome tough life advice. Young people want everything yesterday without the heavy lifting. I hope they listen to you, it needs to be heard.
Hey Ford. I’m 70 and live in Australia. I come to the States every year to play golf in the Carolina’’s. I always start my trip in Nashville. I love the place and if I could live in America it would be my home. I’m still gigging and playing heaps. Life’s great. Love your playing and the channel is fun and very informative.
JT laying the truth bombs. Hard work tends to pay off. I have a young friend that moved there a couple years ago and he spent most of his time slogging 8 hours a day on Broadway like you said. He is now the touring guitarist with Restless Road. Some well deserved success and he's a hell of a nice kid to boot.
I toured out of Texas for around 15 years, was lucky enough to land a gig with a regionally popular band, played the Opry, late shows, even have a gold record on the wall, our band was signed on a joint deal with Warner and Atlantic. Nashville offers the opportunity for some incredible experiences, but the rat race is real up there, and unless you’re established and have ins for big touring gigs or sessions, it can be an absolute beat down. I have friends who tour with big acts up there, and the pay should be better for what they do, in my opinion, and I’ve known guys who were fired along with the whole touring band out of left field simply because the artist felt like something new. You can totally make a good living up there, but the hustle never, ever stops, and that kind of uncertainty can eventually really wear someone down, mentally.
When I first saw you was @Namm playing Supra amps and a band in the box unit and you were killin it man . I appreciate your content on YT. Keep it up!! I lived in Nashville from 97-2000 as an aspiring musician. it was awesome experience. I miss it greatly.
Dude, Nashville is an amazing place to live! There’s still lots of opportunities here.. so many bands/artists who need musicians. You’re right, you just gotta go out and get it.
Speaking of Pittsburgh, it reminds of the scene in That Thing You Do! where The One-Ders are crammed into Horace's camper, and he's talking to the band about gigs he can get them, selling himself, but the band's not quite convinced. "Oh, you gonna wrangle us up some dances at roller rinks, Youth For Christ jamborees? " Horace comes back with, "Rock 'N' Roll shows in Steubenville, Youngstown, Pittsburgh." And the bass player excitedly blurts out, "PIttsbugh!?" LOL. I'm not putting down the steel city or the 3 rivers crowd at all, but that little moment in the film always cracks me up.
Hell I don’t even live in Nashville (actually close to Winston Salem as you mentioned) and I’m loving these truth bombs you’re putting out here! Feel like if you’re a serious musician, what more could you effing want than to be all up in the mix in Nashville!?
Some people will complain if you gave them a gold bar and having to take it to the bank. Always appreciate the truth. If we wake up every day and be thankful for what we have, then we won't notice what we do not have.
I was eating dinner with my wife and kids yesterday, 6:30pm. We got to talking about the Vince Gill residency at the Ryman and my wife said, “why don’t you go?” I snagged a ticket for $100 at 7pm. By 7:30pm I parked downtown and walked to the Ryman. For the next 4 hours I sat in a wooden church pew listening to the best fucking country music you’ve ever heard with a totally crack band. Where else on the planet are you going to do that? I love living here. The haters can pack their shit and go back to Idaho. ❤🤘
Ford, you nailed it. Nashville bitching reminds of every person who lands in a mountain town in the west like Tahoe, Breck, or Sun Valley and complains how "the town ain't what it used to be" (said the newly arrived dude who's been surfing on a buddy's couch for the last 6 mos). Welcome to every town in America that sees it's "hip index" rise a bit. It ebbs and flows but you're right- you came here to play, so play!
funny man i was in nashville (well Franklin) the last 18 years) and moved to Pittsburgh. The cities are so different i wish i could have kept my place back there and bounce back and forth. The old city grit and charm vs the new construction and hotties.
Love the videos bro and love Nashville! I will say I do love being a working, full time musician in Ohio. There aren't the same number of opportunities, but I love it still. Port Clinton is an area on the lake that I refer to as mini Nashville. Lol. Live music every night and lots of work to be had. That said, I do love traveling to Nashville and am planning on it soon. Sure would love a guitar lesson from the master 🙌🏻Keep the videos coming brother.
Get it done, I'm a doer. If you want to get ahead, ya need to work. Here in Monterey, California, the bars close at midnight. We got the pop, jazz, roots festivals. And more, of course. But nothing like Nashville. So if you want a kinda family friendly, us. Want to bust into the business, Nashville.
Nashville does not suck in any way shape or form. I was lucky enough to get a gig that landed me in TN in 2006. Nashville has certainly changed over the years but it's still the land of opportunity for musicians.
Nashville sucks. My wife had her iced tea spiked with a date rape drug at Morgan Wallen’s bar in downtown Nashville. Two of her co workers had to wheelchair her back to her hotel. This was 3 days ago.
This has been an issue for years. I remember two girls who were out of my league trying to flirt and brought me a drink over and told me to taste it. Originally I'm from Miami and I knew better. People drug you to rob you or rape you. This guy talks about a cheap place to live. It's bs. Most locals have been pushed out to other areas because of rent increases. The only people loving it here are outsiders and people who play music.
i'll take LA. Nashville is ok, it's a big small town. LA is a world class city with it's set of problems yes but amaznig weather and musicians take more chances here. More creative. Lot's of the NYC cats moved to LA in the last 10 years.

There is one valid reason to go to Broadway on a Saturday night. To see Kelley’s Hero’s. And then you leave…quickly! 😅
