    I think a bigger issue with “Blind Side” was it portrayed its subject as a 300 pound Lenny from “Of Mice and Men” who practically had to be taught what a football was. The real Michael Oher was a 3-sport athlete by the time he got into that private school. It’s part of why they took him.

    The Blind Side is one of those movies that gets worse and worse in retrospect. Like yeah, let’s have Sandra Bullock know more about how to play football than the guy who had been a fan of football his entire life.
    Update: Given recent allegations that Michael Oher was exploited and lied to by the Tuohy family, to the point where he never got a dime in royalties from the movie ABOUT HIS LIFE and that they tricked him into signing himself into their conservatorship, I think it's safe to say the movie presenting him as a bit of an idiot is now the least of it's problems.

    It still pains me after all these years that Star Wars" The Phantom Menace is hated so much. Personally, I think that it and the other two prequals are masterpieces compared to the hot garbage that we received with the sequals and the characters of Ray and Kylo Ren. Well Kylo Ren at least.
    I actually like Jar Jar Binks a lot, so it always saddens me that the actor received a lot of grief over it all. Same with the actor who played as a young Anakin Skywalker.
    And despite being a hardcore Resident Evil fan (books, games, and movies alike), I was totally unaware that this had happened! Damn, I'm sorry to hear that! I hope the stunt actress has healed and has found peace with the rest of her life, loss of her career, etc.

    • @miketheskepticalone6285
      @miketheskepticalone6285 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I said it at the time, and I'm saying it now ... Jar Jar Binks was PLANNED. Yes, TPM was over-hammed, but that is ALL on George, not Ahmed Best. Ahmed even tried to tone it DOWN, as much as he could, and thank God George took the clue-by-four in good order. Jar Jar was one of the linchpin characters of the entire cycle. How the guy was hammered for doing his job, BRILLIANTLY imho, was a tragedy and insult to a good actor, and a good man. His role post-TPM was largely gutted, but he HAD to be there for the finale.
      George Lucas is a visionary, a dreamer, and a master storyteller. One thing he is NOT, however, is a good story WRITER, and in his most honest moments he knows this. This, ultimately, is how Disney got to him ... he wanted the rest of the story to be told, and between Kathleen Kennedy's (bad faith) promises and Bob Igor's salesmanship, he was assured it would be, WITHOUT his looming Presence distorting the attempt into parody. The famous, possibly apocryphal quote ... "My tombstone will read, 'Here lies George Lucas, creator of Star Wars.' Don't p!ss on my tombstone."
      Well ... they didn't p!ss on it. Dynamite it, thermite-and-napalm it, and use it as a chemical waste dump ... but they didn't p!ss on it.

      I still think the prequels suck and the Disney Star Wars films are great movies that saved Star Wars from George Lucas's incompetence. I don't care how many people with their flawed arguments keep dissing The Last Jedi, I still think it's great, and no one, least of all you, will ever change my mind.

    • @miketheskepticalone6285
      @miketheskepticalone6285 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      O_o ... Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, @@teruienages962 , but that doesn't make them right. And this isn't just me saying it ... the sequels are being referenced in theatre arts schools as textbook examples of what NOT to do. They're such epically BAD movies, they are being held as the Rotten Tomato Gold Standard. And this is entirely aside of how badly they warped the GFFA paradigm, to the point the Disney version can't be canonically matched to the Lucasfilm properties. They're effectively two different universes that happen to share a few character and setting names. The Last Jedi was just the last straw on a wildly overloaded camel's back.
      We're obviously not going to agree on this ... and this is actually fine. Like I said at the start, it's all our opinions. The true test is the test of time. I do, however, firmly believe the consensus is heavily weighted against you ... Star Wars: A New Hope was released in 1977 and is STILL regarded as a landmark film. TLJ is, at best, regarded with mixed emotions.

    • @miketheskepticalone6285
      @miketheskepticalone6285 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You have your own opinion, @@teruienages962 , and you are entitled to it ... however, the judgement of time and the consensus of general opinion do not stand with you. Overall, fen-sourced critiques of the Disney works ... indeed, of ALL of Disney's recent works, even several years predating the Lucasfilm purchase ... is not kind. Production-line glitter-and-gloss, with very little substance behind it, seems to be the kindest take.
      Star Wars: A New Hope, released in 1976, still stands as a benchmark and highly regarded icon, and while The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi do not carry the same weight, collectively if not individually the original Trilogy is regarded as one of the finest examples of motion-picture storytelling in existence. The Disney Trilogy, however, is widely regarded as simply that ... Disney's (failed) attempt to follow a master's epic. Even the harshest critics of the Prequel Trilogy ... which included me, at several points ... do not censure it as harshly as we do the Disney works. At least the Prequels didn't cheerfully discard critical elements of the GFFA paradigm in favour of the "rule of cool" and "subverting expectations".
      For whatever it might be worth ... taking the story in a new direction was not, contrary to the original-trilogy-fanfolk's pained howls, an entirely bad idea. George envisioned three story cycles, with a definite beginning, middle, and endpoint ... which SADLY undervalued the sheer breadth of scope the GFFA grew into over decades of care and devotion, by creators and fen alike. It could have been ... and with the depths of resources, imagination, and creative talent sincerely invested in it, damned well SHOULD HAVE BEEN, truly epic.

Nevertheless, it would seem easy enough to clear up the infamy - how about analyzing a sample of DNA tests from one or two hundred people chosen at random from Rabun county? What harm could there be in trying to lay to rest an unfavorable 50 year old perception of the county? All this assumes, of course, that all those family trees do actually fork...
