For a custom autoloading scattergun the unit cost is reasonable in that a Remington 870P law enforcement trade-in all cleaned up with the bells and whistles re-crafted by Wilson, Vang Comp or even if you are competent to do the work yourself will end up way over the the $1k mark and depending on the weapon light you choose can potentially add $350+. But as my grandfather used to tell me..... "If one buys the correct quality tool the first time you will rarely, if ever have to replace it". Nice scattergun gun you have there John. I have had problems with extremely light loads, like cheap ass Field and Stream target loads, or cheap ass bird shot. The problem is the loads lack enough power to cycle the semi auto action. It only happened 3 times. Once I went to quality target ammo, and quality bird shot it had no problems at all. When it comes to self defense loads I've test about a half dozen and its perfect. I've got money so I've put through a few hundred self defense loads and never ever had a fail or a hiccup. I've put through around 800 of the quality target loads, never a hiccup or failure. It runs like a champ. I trust it so much that its my bedside home defense shotgun. I'd recommend you take a look at Mesa Tactical, I've added the Urbino Stock to it, and the Shotgun Shell Holder's. Also added the top side rail for my Motion Activated Red Dot Sight. The 00 Buck Self Defense loads that come from a couple of reputable manufacturer's will cut a piece of plywood in half in like 2 seconds. Its a deadly shotgun at an affordable price. I wanted a Benelli but couldn't justify the price, so the Mossberg was a nice compromise. Got everything I wanted for around 800 bucks, with the aftermarket add-ons.

Nice shotgun. I wish I could get that stock on my Benelli m2 entry. Currently trying to figure a way to cut the factory straight stock to 12.5” lop without compromising the stock itself. The 14” barrel is incredibly handy and with the current setup it weighs 6.5lbs. The urbino stock soaks up the recoil so well I actually shoot heavy loads all day. Lately I keep hearing people talk a out how primitive the shotgun is for home defense and some even go as far as to say they would never use it over an AR. The shotgun is just one tool but I feel, with training, it is the best tool for barricading the family in.
Very excited to add this shotgun to my modest collection. Did extensive research before deciding on purchasing a shotgun, but the ones I wanted were never available due to the virus. Fast forward last week, I pulled the proverbial trigger on a Winchester SXP Marine Defender, pump action shotgun, which uses a rotary bolt and inertia-assisted action allowing super fast follow-up shots. Then yesterday, this Beretta 1301 Tac Shotgun became available. However, I wanted to be sure I was NOT buying a Generation 1 shotgun, which was outstanding as well, but had a bolt release issue which caused 2 shells to release at once, causing jams. No bueno . . . In any event, that was corrected with Generation 2 (which I bought after confirming the MPN), along with some other improvements, including a OBHP-IC choke capability (comes with a fixed cylinder). I now have the two fastest cycling shotguns in the world - in auto and pump. This auto which allows the Beretta ". . . to cycle 36% faster than any other shotgun on the market;" and, my Winchester SXP Marine Defender, one of the fastest, if not fastest actions for a pump shotgun. Thank you for your review. It was outstanding and confirmed the choice I made yesterday.

I run a Remington 1100 with an 18.5" barrel and a Holosun HS510 Zeroed for slugs at 50 yards and the circle is my HD pattern 4 + 1 for a total of 5 rounds of Remington Express 00 buck I'd love to SBS it and get a 14" barrel on it
That Beretta is awesome by itself, but those upgrades by Aridus Industries and Langdon Tactical take it to the next level. The gun is expensive but it is probably worth it.

Had a few questions being a shotgun neophyte. 1.I've noticed clued instructors don't ever run the version of 1301 that comes with a pistol grip- Is there a reason for that? And is there anywhere I can read up on why pistol grips are no go? I'm not talking PGO like mr. Rhett Neumayer, I'm talking PG plus stock. 2, What are your thoughts for a tall optic mount on a shotgun, The justification being all the benefits you see from a tall mount on an AR? I'm just surprised that everybody is running 2.26" mounts And yet everybody's okay with absolute cowitness on the shotguns Finally, What would be your thoughts on ghost loading this for HD? I'm not gonna put a side saddle on for civilian home defense, but 7+2 was how I was thinking of keeping it bedside with side saddles and matchsavers for action shooting

You can buy all the pieces yourself and put them on. Or for literally the same money, have one of the best gunsmiths in the US put them together for you.

It's a terrible idea to be in the presence of a deadly threat with an unloaded gun. It's a terrible idea to lower the capacity of your shotgun by cycling the action and removing a live round. Hence, don't do that.
Just got a 1301 Comp and am in the process of setting it up for home defense. Problem is, a lot of components (even the guns themselves) are out of stock and on backorder due to CV19. Ordered an Olight Badr Pro (light/laser combo). Got a Nordic Components extension mag (4 shots), and a barrel clamp with picatinny rail so I can mount the light (hopefully). The laser will replace the need for a red dot. BTW what red dot did you put on this gun? All this to fight the zombies in case the wrong guy gets elected in November and they come for our guns. Happy 4th to everyone!
I don't think either is a bad answer. They both mount on the same footprint, which is cool. I like the circle only on a shotgun especially because it shows the pattern of the gun out to basically any distance. But the RMR works great and is the gold standard of reliability.
@@ASPextra Absolutely correct. Pistol grips add a fulcrum point causing increased muzzle rise and felt recoil. Took a shotgun class a while back and the instructor called out (respectfully) a bunch of students that brought pistol grip shotguns. Learned a LOT that weekend.

The cheapest semi-auto that I know of is the Stoeger but uses the inertia eject system (like the Benelli M2 - not M4) and needs to be shouldered to work properly. Look at the Rem 870 - I think they have a tactical model now, or Mossberg 500 or 590. Both are pumps but you'll only need one shot anyway unless you're being overrun by zombies. Come to think about it, that's looking like it may happen. What the hell, use your books money and get the 1301 Tactical. You don't need to add all the bells and whistles right away.
Good Lord, no. The 930 is a raging dumpster fire. The 940 JM Pro ain't bad, but the 930 is a hard no for defensive use. And the 1301T has both beat anyway.

I personally like my home defense setup with iron sights (removable carry handle), sling and a light. Looks like prices have gone up on them now, but you used to be able to get them for $700 to 800 when they had the free bolt carrier group with a purchase of a complete upper group sale

Yeah it has a 4-shot Wilderness Tactical sidesaddle and a MatchSaverz on it, so I have 12 total rounds in and on the gun. :)

The pistol grip changes the wrist angle and makes it harder to control.

What red dot are your running ?
Right now it has a RMR on it. If I wasn't lazy I would replace it with a Holosun 507 in circle only, but the RMR does great.

You can't set up a BCM correctly for a grand. That's just the base gun!
I personally like my home defense setup with iron sights (removable carry handle), sling and a light. Looks like prices have gone up on them now, but you used to be able to get them for $700 to 800 when they had the free bolt carrier group with a purchase of a complete upper group sale

A green light produces far less glare and has much less effect on night vision, draws fewer bugs, and is less visible from a distance. With a green light, you see them; with a white light, they see you. Disclaimer: JMO
