Concordia venus team game has worked well for us, and plays about as long as a 5 player individual game would take. Recent release 'footprints' also worth a look, as it's got a good puzzle to it with dual use cards and variable board layout. It plays up to 6, but I've only played it at 4 player so far. Other options include 7 wonders and Between 2 castles of mad king ludwig, the latter being especially useful with new or inexperienced players, as they are sharing the build of castles with the player either side of them. That allows for a co-op level of support to be given.
I own both Downforce and Heat & I have to say that Heat is a much better game. It really feels like racing but is accessible to people that don’t game regularly. It’s my go-to 6 player game now. Others I bring out for high player count fun are Samurai Sword, Western Legends, and 7 Wonders.
