    Hi James, hope you are well. Just wanted to say a massive thank you! Not only for the valuable information and tips you give us all (I am buying my first project narrow boat) but for bringing us all together as a community! You are so humble, down to earth with a great sense of humour (not to mention excellent taste in music! ) Think you will have to start all over again when you have finished this one or we will all be lost :)

    James, I’m so enjoying the daily updates to your Narrowboat, it’s great to watch. The audio sometimes is a bit quiet, but the can-do attitude is spot on.
    It’s coming along nicely! Good job! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Just wondering why you didn't turn the boards around 180 degrees after you cut them so that the holes are on the near side. This would make it easier to pop your finger in and open the draws.

      I think there were many of us speaking to the screen telling James to turn the boards around before he screwed those hinges on :-D

      And if you had hinges at the back as well, then if you did need to open them the full depth, well you could.

    James, David from Cruising the Cut , did a vlog on how he designed his cushions for easy access to his storage. It might be worth a look.

    The vlog should have been titled “How to scribe a curve~” 🙂 I now know how to do it in the simplest possible way. Thanks James!

    Keep the kettle on a trivet on top of the stove, it will not boil but it will keep the water hot and uses less gas to boil.

    Dude that kettle could be boiling slowly on top of your multifuel stove all day. That's where mine is!

    The flooring should click together. Sometimes takes a bit of effort. To fix I would use liquid nails or similar and hold with pins. Pins alone will loosen over time, especially with vibrations.

    The splash-back is there to stop 'the crap' ending up on your stove and the areas behind the hob.

  • @neilashman7794

    James, to speed up cutting multiple bits just measure and cut the first one and mark it as a pattern.
    Then just use the pattern piece to mark each new cut, saves measuring each time.
    I'm really enjoying these videos, thanks for the effort you put into making them.

    Hi James yet another great vlog. Just something to bear in mind my hubby works for a hire boat company & they've had a couple of incidents with glass cooker tops shattering because they've been put down whilst hob still hot.

      Fiona, also seen this happen in touring caravans. Thermal flask would be cheaper and much safer

      Diane after I'd posted my comment I also thought about a thermal flask. We do this on our boat, save on gas plus quicker to make a drink which is great

    Hey James if you a air compressor and small brad and gun that how put boards like that .and the floor boards snap together in a 45 degree angle and push them down .

  • @dianezavitz2895
    @dianezavitz2895 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks like you could use a brad nailer, would be handy with doing your trim as well. I don’t know if weight is an issue on those boats but if you honeycomb the surface of the seats and beds, it would weigh less and better airflow. That click flooring doesn’t like moisture, it swells when it gets wet but if you’re going to use it on the floor, in case of major spillages, salt will draw out the moisture, may take a few applications. If I had young kids, I think I’d use big pillows on your couch , they could lounge around on them watching tv, snooze, pillow fights 😂 looking good.

    If you get an insulated carafe to hold 3 or 4 mugs' worth of tea hot, you won't need to use the hob quite so often. Probably save gas, too.

    • @theotherstevesteve
      @theotherstevesteve 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And in addition limit the amount of condensation generated by boiling all that water.

  • @peterjones2411
    @peterjones2411 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Contact glue james assemble boards first spay or brush adhesive on boards and seat wait 1or2 mins til just tacky then pivot whole side up using floor as pivot point.
    You'll regret pins after hitting your finger's likely bend unless you prefer drill every whole and may rust if damp or kid's spill stuff. Contact adhesive is more than good enough for that job.

    Hi James - why do you have this thing with screws and hinges. Gravity will hold them fine unless you intend to barrel role the boat LOL

    Rub a bit candle on those T&G joints and they'll slide in without hazzle James.. Like the reverse hinges,,, sits well...

  • @bruceshaw2402
    @bruceshaw2402 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Get yourself a big flask , boil the kettle and put the boiling water in the flask , not tea just the water as tea will stew , you will only have to use the kettle a couple of times ( depending how many cuppa's you have ) its quicker , no waiting for the kettle to boil and you save on your gas usage , just a suggestion .

  • @davidallen1418
    @davidallen1418 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Those boards do click together James. as there is no way anyone could lay a floor by sliding them together.

    You might find it better to have the bottom cushion going to the back of seat or else you'll need an extra piece of foam to make the mattress

    James where did you get your toilet from

  • @sarkybugger5009
    @sarkybugger5009 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Now you're just showing off, James. Recessed hinges? ;o) As I mentioned the other day, painted, galvanised, or brass hinges will be needed under foam, or they WILL rust.
    If you're planning on pinning through the grooves of the boards, you'll need either a Pin Push tool, or a set of pin punches, to get them flush. Silicone sealant will stick them firmly, and remains flexible. Easy option, IMO.
    All the best.

    • @chrisabbott7458
      @chrisabbott7458 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Stainless are best. More expensive but totally trouble free. All the internal screws, hinges and other fittings on my narrowboat are stainless and thus maintenance free. Solve a lot of problems.

    • @sarkybugger5009
      @sarkybugger5009 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisabbott7458 Shockingly expensive! My caravan had plastic hinges, but steel screws. You can guess the rest...

    After you finished yesterday's video on the cabinet doors in the galley, you jumped straight into this one and finished it after work the next day? Costume change and sudden daylight threw me.
    Where are the roses paintings that were under the castle paintings on the companionway doors between the galley and the stern?

  • @charlesxix

    Instead of pins why can't you use glue or epoxy, its only wood isn't it?
