I've been watching your videos since the beginning, James, and just need to add my two cents here. Your ability to simply crack on, entirely self-motivated and with minimal outside help, is astonishing and inspirational. If you could bottle your work ethic and sell it, you could retire tomorrow. Best of luck.
I haven’t committed in awhile, but I have been watching. The paint looks great. Just remember, you are not “restoring “the boat. Don’t sweat the little things. Crack on. Stay safe.
There have been a couple of vids were it looked as if you were ready to Chuck in the towel. You looked very tired and fed up. Nice to see you back on track and looking much better. As Churchill used to say..... Carry on buggering on. X
Well, you already have me trained. Whenever I see that you've posted a new video, I go and make a cup of tea. This is strange, as I have been a coffee drinker for decades!
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt at least your at the stage now where all the jobs your doing make a big difference so you can see the big changes and feel like your getting there
Hi James just caught up with your last Vlog you are such a hard working person so good at all the things you do on the boat . Keep going from Dianne from Oxton Wirral :)
Haven’t commented in a while but we continue to watch with anticipation. Things are going so well. I bet the kids will enjoy playing the the LED lighting effects controller. Lol
Loved everything about this vid, from breakfast on the towpath to cruisin’ upstream (just wished the audio was a tad louder at that point), and the walk back , lovely place you’re in James, in every whichway. The boat looks great.
Enjoyed that video James, a bit of variety never goes amiss. I wonder if I was the only one waiting for you to fall out of the dingy when you were washing the hull? That would have been comedy gold. 🤣 For what it's worth I like the boat red and black too. It just needs some highlights to break it up a little.
everyone is waiting for me to fall in. The dinghy seems to look far more unstable than it actually is. The prob with red is translucency. Red shows imperfections more than most other colours and certainly in a gloss.
thats a good idea apart from the fact that i really struggle to get the magnets off the boat when they attach. To move it many times will mark the black
James, as you have that empty mooring next to you, just now, wouldn't it be easier to access the starboard side of your boat by pulling it across to the shore? Just a thought? Or is the neighbouring boat due to return at any moment? Ah - I see someone else also asked that - and yes tiredness can have that effect - keep cracking on, but perhaps take the odd break. Either way the full coat of red-oxide looks great, with those shiny mushroom caps.
Wonder if using a mop and canal/river water with little car shampoo on end the answer to washing boat then turn boat round to do other side from pontoon/bank.
FYI - it seems you have a narrow boat similar to the youtubers "chugging along". At least the same windows. Maybe you should check it out for color inspiration.
Evert action has an equal and opposite reaction (washing the boat from a dingy and hanging on for dear life) In the canal no one can hear you scream :)
I'm nervously asking myself the same. I recall the top bits near the gunnels were only coated once or twice as i wasnt 100% sure - but regardless, it was 2 coats, and in those spots it pretty much just wiped off without much effort. Worrying
Playing cards around an iPhone just doesn't have the appeal of a family gathering, although video calls have got me through the past year, with my sanity mostly intact. Have a good evening.
If you had a functioning sink, you could wash that cup.? Why didn't you move the boat to the side, or is that space not for working on. Any way crack on. 😜
Why didnt i move the boat to the side? Why didnt I move the boat to the side? Oh my god, why the f£$k didnt I make life far simpler for myself and move the boat into the perfectly sized vacant bit of canal??? I have no idea why not, tired I guess. Doh

bless you for your kind words - thanks, greatly appreciated
I’ve been watching this from the start. I’ve got to say it’s looking so good all in one colour. Even though it’s just the red oxide. Well done mate.

good to see you pal - i know, ive made my peace with that now - slap on the paint and get cruisin'

It must feel satisfying to see it all come together so well. So much work, but so worth it!
The Photobomb cat is becoming a regular feature.
that cat is becoming my mate. he sat and watched me make tea this morning

@@mungmungie LOL - literally making one as I read this !!
It's right well James for a 50 yr old boat. Crack on mate. Cheers!
Its amazing to see how much the boat moves as you paint .
i know! its mad. when the canal is busy like it was today there is so much pull in the water -
your getting on so well with your boat and making massive transformations with each job , i bet your getting excited to see it finished
finished......i just cant imagine it, but yeah, will be nice

Great to see the outside paint coming along + in the water! Looks good. 👍 Keep the vlogs comin’..,
I'm moving to England and buying a boat great job and hello from Las Vegas Nevada USA
Hello Nevada !!! In advance, welcome to England
Thanks for the trip out and about ... good to know your eating 🙂 .... have a great evening 👍
Hey James, thanks for the cruise around your patch, enjoy your evening with the family. Take care.

Love the little dinghy--Sloe Patrol needs one of her own! (Those mushroom vents look great.)
I don’t think Carol can post one of those via Amazon 😉

i bet they will love breaking the LEDs too !!
You can tell it's a narrowboat now not just a metal tube with an engine sir James.
cheers geez
Looking good
good vid keep up the work on you boat four the cut looking good
James sack the cigs, you have the same cough, as my farther in law, and he passed on with, the big C, Will Power, I did it 30 years ago. stay safe.

I quite like the red colour. I think your should consider keeping it all red.
Red has issues, especially in gloss. Shows dents and imperfections more than most colours.

@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Red also fades more quickly than other colours too.
I wondered how long into the video before a cuppa was mentioned 👍
its the only way to crack on with these jobs, well pre midday that it. Beer works nicely too.
Playing cards with the family 🥰 making memories.
Hey James, .. How about a couple of 'Fishing Magnets' on ropes to anchor you to the hull when working from the dingey ?? - might free-up a hand.
thats a good idea apart from the fact that i really struggle to get the magnets off the boat when they attach. To move it many times will mark the black
A you going to paint the interior and put covers over your ceiling joints and have you finished the bathroom

Got a welder ?
If you have, weld a deflector rod on gunwhale before stern deck to take rain into the canal.

benchmark for many..........
Sounds familiar, if my sister used the "family" car before me, I'd have to put fuel into it. ;-)
James why don’t you fix some lugs/fixing points to both sides and when you do future maintenance you can use them to tie up etc?
Why did the blacking come off?
I'm nervously asking myself the same. I recall the top bits near the gunnels were only coated once or twice as i wasnt 100% sure - but regardless, it was 2 coats, and in those spots it pretty much just wiped off without much effort. Worrying

it works ok to be honest. Theyre on a video call and the game is on the laptop. Better than 4 people on 2 chairs around the dinette !!!
hi james just finished watching every episode have you thought about how much you have spent so far on your build ?
Not wearing your suit and tie to this auspicious event? ;-)
when you fill your water tank the boat nose will go down tho?
Hi James have you ever think about painting the boat a teal blue ?
thats an idea
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Teal blue is becoming a bit of a trend with newly made narrow oats. Looks gorgeous, however .....
James, given up on the centre line attachment point? Also what are your plans for the deck boards on the stern?
certainly havent given up on centre line. Welding personnel issues.
Stern boards will be 18mm phenolic ply when budgets allow - maybe in a few weeks
