I could listen to Mandy Patinkin tell stories forever. If you haven't seen it, check out his role in Dead Like Me, a coming-of-age series that lasted for two seasons (and an awful movie follow up to avoid) about grim reapers, and he plays the the deadpan-snarking jerk-with-a -heart-of-gold-boss of his area of grim reapers, and is definitely one of the best things in that show.
Digging up old TV shows and randomly happened upon Chicago Hope. He has some great lines in that show and they worked his singing in! Such a beautiful thing.
the whole movie is full of so many memorable scenes and lines, it truly is one of the rare movies that will stand the test of time. 30 years from now, our grandchildren and great grandchildren will still be able to einjoy it the way we did when we first saw it. and who among us has not accidentally quoted a line without even trying to? "As You wish" became a term of endearment when i found a fellow fan, and "Inconcievable" became the ultimate punchline to our inside jokes. thank you, Mr. Reiner.
I knew there was a Reason why I loved 'I Want My Father Back you Son of a Bitch' more than the other Quotes (For me it's 1) This, 2) To the Pain and 3) My Name is Inigo Montoya), I literally threw my arms in the air and went 'Fuck yeah!' at this scene and now I know why it had so much Feeling in it
+dannybob42 Totally agree Danny ----- tears well up everytime he delivers that line. I think it's easily one of the MOST PASSIONATE AND REAL delivered lines I've ever seen in film. And "fuck yeah" is exactly correct!
really if you don't like this movie i don't know what you're doing with your life. whether this be a love story or not its a classic and simply can not be hated upon for such work put into making an amazing book into a stunning movie.
I lost my father in 2006. Shortly after, I watched this bit on the special features of the DVD and I sobbed my heart out when Mandy Patinkin talks about his father and how killing the six-fingered man was like killing the cancer that killed his father. I still get teary eyed every single time I see this clip.
I'm going to see this film again in a bar this upcoming Father's Day. We're probably going to take drinks every time he says that line. We are going to get sooooo wasted!
I just adore so many fantasy films from the 1980s and this one is in the top ten. A great story, wonderful soundtrack, killer lines and a kick-ass swordfight make this one terrific bit of cinematic splendor. I'm betting none of the Harry Potter films can possibly compare to this in terms of pure film genius.
holy balls!! GIDEON!!! :) ive always LOVED this movie and my sister was like "hey thats inigo montoya" when we were watching criminal minds. hes amazing :DD
OMG! First time I see this dvd bonus. I lost my father to cancer too, and I love this movie! I just cant believe he really said that about cancer and his father!!!
I am amazed that they were able to pick up the sword so quickly. Kudos to their coaches and choriagraphers....I have watched that scene over and over for years and this is the first I have heard of this....I love this movie....
Love Mandy Patinkin. I've loved this guy since "Sunday in the Park with George" with Bernadette Peters. Shame everyone remembers him only for Inigo Montoya, but what a great character to be connected to.
My favourite scene from one of my favourite films. I lost my father way too early from cancer (or something similar, TBH I'm not sure) so what Manny says really resonates. I'm actually close to tears.
I remember seeing this movie and I was a kid and I was thinking for a comedy Mandy Patinkin is sure saying that line with a lot of conviction behind it now I know why , sorry for his loss.
Mandy is no longer on criminal minds because he aposed the violence on Tv, and I believe he was 35 when he was in the princess bride. As to a remake of the princess bride or anything close to that, he was considerably quick to apose. When asked about that he said: He said "I hope I'm dead and in the ground before that happens. I think that things are better left alone.", and I totally agree. I don't think that anyone could replace him as Inigo Montoya. The movie is just that good!
Awesome the castilian pronociation of Mandy of the spanish name,is not INIGO, is IÑIGO, and he reaches to make the difference. Moving the confession about his father passing.
I recently lost my father to colon cancer (6 months ago today, Feb 9 2010), so I know what Mandy is going through, and that line "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die" really resonates within me.... Mandy really is an awesome actor, from this movie to Criminal Minds and beyond.... Absolutely brilliant!! I hope he continues to act for many more years!
I met Mandy Patinkin very briefly in an airport terminal over a decade ago. He is a private man but oh so impressive as both an actor and a tenor. Mandy, I like that you got rid of the gray hair :)
i have been to three of his singing tours and each time he HAS to say the line and the whole theatre says it with him, it is truely magical. i also had trouble watching him in criminal minds, but i loved him in chicago hope too. mandy truly rules (not as much as inigo :) )
I only have two the things to say. Never get involved in a land war in Asia. And the duel between the man in black and Inigo is the best in movie history.
Love the Inigo character and the actor's emotional connection to it... Even though I am a Horror flick buff, this movie has a special place next to the Dark Crystal in my collection.
Oh God that ending....I want to cry. Now that is called inner image!
Mandy is just a fantastic actor! He seems like an equally amazing man. I miss him on Criminal Minds. The show has not been the same since he left.

Mandy is a beautiful person. I have become a bit addicted to their channel...you laugh and cry in equal measure. It is terrific!
Sometimes, beauty causes pain. Other times, pain produces beauty.
❤️it
"and for a moment he was alive" excuse me while I cry... ;_;

Started seriously tearing up when i watched this. Inigo Montoya is one of my favorite characters of all time.

I didn't expect to start crying like I did but that's life. Feel bad for the kidlets who missed having this to grow up with.
Totally not crying...something in my eye....

That last line "and then my fairy tale came true" broke me. I was already on the edge of ugly crying, now its full blown hysterics
I wish I could battle my moms cancer this way. I wouldn't let her down I promise!!!
Mandy Patinkin is a superb actor, shame I don't see him in anymore films.
mad positive energy here. love soaking up these waves.
Think we can ring out the clothes over the terrible movies we're stuck with today? They need a good dose of THIS and others...
18 people keep hitting the dislike button... i do not think it means what you think it means.
LMAO
those 18ppl killed my father! They will prepare to die!! XD
It's probably Humperdink, Count Rugen, the Sicilian and 15 ROUS's.
***** lol
+Aamir Quraishy maybe by a bunch of spaniards who know the correct way to pronounce that name is Íñigo
I'm going to see this film again in a bar this upcoming Father's Day. We're probably going to take drinks every time he says that line. We are going to get sooooo wasted!
Hi,my name is Iñigo San Jose, and i've heard this to mock me lie a thousand times, but it's awesome!
😂

That line means so much more after you hear the actor's feelings behind it. Very touching.
2:29 He still nails it.
Very moving scene, especially in a comedy.
I lost my Dad to Cancer too... :( That part means way more to me now.
holy balls!!
GIDEON!!! :)
ive always LOVED this movie and my sister was like "hey thats inigo montoya" when we were watching criminal minds. hes amazing :DD
OMG! First time I see this dvd bonus. I lost my father to cancer too, and I love this movie! I just cant believe he really said that about cancer and his father!!!
The fact that they didn't know how to sword fight at the beginning astounds me. That was one of the best sword fighting scenes that I've seen!
I am amazed that they were able to pick up the sword so quickly. Kudos to their coaches and choriagraphers....I have watched that scene over and over for years and this is the first I have heard of this....I love this movie....
I love it. Brilliant cast and movie. "They don't make em like they used to..."
Holy shit. I didn't realize the guy from Princess Bride was Mandy Patinkin. The familiarity had been driving me insane.
RIP Bob Anderson and Lester Patinkin
Love Mandy Patinkin. I've loved this guy since "Sunday in the Park with George" with Bernadette Peters. Shame everyone remembers him only for Inigo Montoya, but what a great character to be connected to.
Mandy Patinkin is so much like Jason Gideon. That's because he was the perfect actor for the part. Criminal minds is very lucky to have him
INCONCEIVABLE!! That someone could not like this scene or not like this movie.
Great commentary by Mandy Patinkin at the end!
My favourite scene from one of my favourite films.
I lost my father way too early from cancer (or something similar, TBH I'm not sure) so what Manny says really resonates. I'm actually close to tears.

Mi nombre es Iñigo Montoya.... One of the best lines in the history of cinema and literature.
Great to see this. I also love the reenactment with cats of Princess Bride by klusmanp, of Engineer's Guide to Cats.
Damn, I didn't know they were actually sword fighting, I always assumed it was special effects. Amazing.

Mandy is one of the most wonderful people in the history of people.
I am so proud of Mandy for this scene, now that I know the background. And I wholeheartedly agree: 'I WANT MY FATHER BACK, YOU S.O.B."
Awesome the castilian pronociation of Mandy of the spanish name,is not INIGO, is IÑIGO, and he reaches to make the difference. Moving the confession about his father passing.
Great story! Compelling and rich.
Why am I just finding out now my favorite childhood movie hero *INIGO MONTOYA* is Jason Gideon on Criminal Minds? THIS IS AWESOME!
I recently lost my father to colon cancer (6 months ago today, Feb 9 2010), so I know what Mandy is going through, and that line "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die" really resonates within me....

That is truly a beautiful scene
Holy shit, that was touching!
@ACortens AMEN :) I saw this film when it first came out :))!! I still watch it every time it`s on TV LOVE LOVE IT!!!
The single greatest line in movie history.
uh what? No, I'm not crying.....just got some dust caught in my eye is all.
I met Mandy Patinkin very briefly in an airport terminal over a decade ago. He is a private man but oh so impressive as both an actor and a tenor. Mandy, I like that you got rid of the gray hair :)
best scene in cinema history
Basic instinct-- detective interview scene.
This guy would have been great as Oberyn Martell...back when he was young
Right in the feels.
Back in the 80's?? He still is! He comes across as a very kind man.
so beautiful
Don't you make me cry TH-cam.
Thanks for posting this.
@thelastcowboy1988 I agree with you. What Mandy Patinkin said about that scene was so touching. He is a wonderful actor and I hope we see more of him.
i have been to three of his singing tours and each time he HAS to say the line and the whole theatre says it with him, it is truely magical. i also had trouble watching him in criminal minds, but i loved him in chicago hope too. mandy truly rules (not as much as inigo :) )
I remember when this first came out on DVD, I got an ad in the mail that say "PREPARE TO BUY"... haha
Very touching.
I only have two the things to say.
Never get involved in a land war in Asia.
And the duel between the man in black and Inigo is the best in movie history.
Love this.
Mi nombre es Iñigo Montoya, tu mataste a mi padre, prepárate a morir... Épico
Dislikes on this video?!?!? inconceivable!
AWESOME!!!!!!!
Holy Shizz thats Mandy Patinkin from Criminal Minds. Dam good actor
Love the Inigo character and the actor's emotional connection to it...
Even though I am a Horror flick buff, this movie has a special place next to the Dark Crystal in my collection.
Inconceivable!
I'm not crying, you're crying! SHUT UP!! *sobs in a corner*
Awesome awesome awesome...
Brilliant Movie...
Interesting that, even in the book, his name is spelled "Inigo." The actual Spanish name, of course, is "Iñigo" (pronounced, roughly, "ee-nyee-go").
Wait, Inigo Montoya is Mandy Ptinkin, the guy from Homeland and Dead Like Me? Wow.
I knew Inigo's drive was too badass to be contained by a movie...
They need to make a sequel. "Further Adventures of Dread Pirate Roberts"
Holy fuckkk criminal minds dude is in one of my favorite movies evarr????? Amazzing
Mandy Patinkin is THE biggest hero. If you haven't watched Homeland, watch it. He's the best character in it.
Homeland future star!
Just watched this movie! My fav persone other than westly and buttercup, is Inigo Montoya
I'm gonna have to get blue ray just for this
HOMELAND!!!!
I did not realize Agent Gideon and Inigo Montoya were played by the same actor lol wow
"Mi nombre es Íñigo Montoya. Mataste a mi padre. Prepárate a Morir." Original translation english-spanish, writen and pronunced.
I can't believe this is the same guy from Homeland!
"I want my father back you son of a bitch."
--- chokes me up EVERY........SINGLE.......TIME.
second best commupance scene (just after the blind's revenge on the abusive caretaker in Tales from the Crypt).
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
"Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you dislike this video, prepare to die."
i was watching game of thrones and thought whole fourth season, that i somewhat knew prince oberyn, then i remember that he looked alot like Inigo
You sir, have an awesome name.
That’s Huxley inside the princess bride from Elmo in Grouchland
Awww...
18 people are the cancer in human disguise that got rid of Inigo Montoya's father
There you go, pure logic
Mandy you amazing human being, I wish you were my father
classic
