yes, nanmu is on the sides. This song is a G major piece on guzheng. It's originally Hakka song. I'm not sure if the original Hakka piece is played in F. Hakka ones are hard to say. Chouzhou pieces are originally in F, but most pieces are played in G on guzheng as well.

For this song, it's ok to use your own long nails. For some songs, we will need the finger picks to do tremolo and fast parts.

Is it better to grow long nails and play (sounds kind of gross) or to use the contraptions you have on your fingers?

Using long nails may be painful, so using the claw contraptions offers a brace from the hard strings, as they are made from hard materials 😊
