Just finished eating the chana masala I made from your recipe. I doubled the recipe and used soaked dry bean. I omitted the oil, too. The best cm I have ever had! Thanks so much!
Hey Peggy! Thanks for sharing and letting me know. I'm thrilled to hear that this was the best chana masala you've had! I'll have to try it without oil next time!
can I ask you when you used no oil did you heat the cumin and mustard seeds dry or did you put a little water in. I am an oil free vegan and would like to know if you used water or dry or veggie broth?
@@RainbowPlantLife Hi my name is Edmarys I love your videos and recipes. My daughters order and instant pot ultra as a mother's day present for my .I'm so excited but I what to know a few things about the instant pot.I don't know if they 6quart is a good size for me or it's too big.I also want to know if I could make cakes in the instant pot ultra 3 quart ???
I made this for my Christmas dinner since I don't eat pot roast -- it was fantastic. Doubled the recipe, used canned beans, had to cook for 16 min on pressure instead of 8. Came out watery so I left it uncovered on slow cook for a couple hours and it reduced down to a beautiful thick masala. Super easy.
I'm not much of a cook, but last night I made your Instant Pot Chana Masala and wow, it came out great!! I woke up this morning with the taste still in my mouth. Yum. My daughter asked where I got the recipe from and I told her from a TH-cam channel, Rainbow something. She lit up and said "Rainbow Plant Life?" She's a vegan and it turns out she follows you too. So we did some bonding over your great videos. I really thank you for making it so simple. I love Indian food and in the past I've looked at recipes for some of my favorite indian foods, but they are always so complicated that I got discouraged. If you can make it simple enough that even I can make great Indian food, then you've really accomplished something!!
Amchar can also be found in Caribbean stores especially those frequented by Trinidadians. Almost half our population are Indian descendants. Looking forward to trying this recipe
Sometimes I can not afford some ingredients, but I love your recipes!! Not only because they are healthy, but also because you look like my daughter. ☺️🙏🏼
I just want to say thank you, this is the only veggie-based recipe my son will eat. he actually asks for it?! we have it with the naan bread and the kids love it. :)
You are spot on with the fresh tomato comment. Roma's come close to being usable. I use canned crushed tomatoes in my Indian recipes, and they never disappoint.
I’m so excited by how well this turned out! Truly delicious. I used Amchur powder and chickpeas that’s had been soaked overnight. Also stirred in some fresh spinach at the end. YUM! Thank you so much!
Delicious dish, producing luscious aromas that wafted through the house for several hours afterwards! Cooked according to the recipe, but included a 15 minute post-pressure cook medium-heat saute, in which I added a bunch of baby kale. Also, added a touch of sambal oelek to my bowl for extra heat and acidity. Finally, be sure to squeeze in the lemon juice as the recipe suggests!
This is a great recipe. We generally sauté onions for a longer time and then add sauté them with tomatoes until oil starts leaving from the sides. This gives a more flavorful gravy.
Just found this treasure and I'm going to create it today. I am so in love with my Quick Cooker and fairly new to it. You make all recipes so doable and delicious. Thank so very much.
Delicious! I made this on the stove top and it was still perfect! My family likes a super saucy masala so I added an extra small can of diced tomato and blended the sauce before adding the beans. Served over pearl Barley. AMAZING!
Wow, great video. I love the explanations of why to do certain steps, and the shortcuts for using US domestic alternatives. It's a well thought out and friendly approach, I wish more videos were like this!

I'm new to Indian cooking, but I like most of what I've made. I grow my own tomatoes and can or dry them for winter. I use about 50 qts salsa, 40 qts sweet chili sauce, and 100 qts canned tomatoes a year besides all the fresh ones we can eat. That takes a lot of tomato plants.
I saw you on Caitlin’s channel and I love dal and then you said you had a Chana Masala recipe! Can’t wait to make it. Sounds delicious. It will be the next meal I cook!
That makes me so happy! Thanks Peggy! Let me know how it goes!
I just made this. Oh my goodness its delicious! Really gorgeous. Very authentic tasting. I had to use your recipe from your link to be sure I was making it correctly, would love to see if in real time. Thanks so much for sharing. Love Indian food and the Instant pot! :)
I don’t have Insta pot, what about re-shooting tutorials of your awesome insta pot recipes minus the instant pot? Love that I discovered your channel
Absolutely delicious! Try it!
Please don't judge the entire contiguous land of the US based off your regional experience. The tomatoes where I live (Midwest) are exquisite.
Facetiousness aside, thank you for the video I'm really enjoying this meal!
Sometimes sarcasm doesn't translate well! But yes, I do know there are some great tomatoes out there! I am unfortunate to live an area where the only good tomatoes are locally grown ones during the summer time so I treasure those. But glad to hear that you have access to delicious tomatoes! And happy to hear that you're enjoying this recipe!
I made this once for my girlfriend and myself. 10/10 I would make again! I wouldn’t put peppers in it next time because she thought it was too spicy!
Koala did you get brownie points too 🥰

It looks amazing, like all of your recipes!!
I love the mix of traditional whole toasted spices coupled with the wonderful modern speediness of the instant pot, this looks just deelish😋
Hehe yes you nailed it on the head! Traditional but modern :) thanks Natalie!
