went there and had a look about a month ago. real easy to actually get access to the bridge and there was no security or anything. pretty sketchy looking to walk on, didn’t go very far
Built around the same time as the bow truss whare house in brougham Street now demolished and home to the tac. The bow truss was designed to have little or no internal columns look it up a facenating piece of Geelong history
Yeah I worked for a while in an office building opposite (Steampacket House) the wool museum and there was a large box on the floor about 1.5-2 meters squared and about chest height. Apparently it was the shoot that went down and under Brougham street across to the wool museum building. Would be super interesting to see all the old tunnels used in Geelong.
Well done. Been to Geelong but had no idea it is there. I woulda gone out of my way to see that. SA has a short cast iron aqueduct at Bundaleer reservoir in the mid north. It's connected to an extensive concrete aqueduct system that runs for tens of kilometers and was all horse and hand constructed. Awesome I'll have to check out the aqueduct in SA some time. Unfortunately Barwon Water is trying to demolish the one here. A group has formed to try and stop the demolition, they approached me to use some of the footage on the site, so hopefully they have some success in blocking the destruction. friendsofbarwonriverovoidseweraqueduct.org/
They don't want anyone climbing on it or walking underneath because bits of concrete could fall off. But December 2023 it looks cracked, but mostly intact. A local told me that there is only one other with a similar construction in the entire world. If so, it would be a crime to not preserve it.
It should be restored and made usable as a walking path / bike track. Barwon water are just lazy and use excuses and want to remove the sections over the water because they are just plain lazy.
More likely they don't have the funds. But agreed that they should at least mow the grass along the walking track alongside the aqueduct to minimize the chance of treading on a tiger snake.
Really enjoyed this. My husband and I wanted to look at it yesterday but couldn’t find an approach path. Your footage was much appreciated
Thanks. You've got to go to the end of Boundary Rd, next to Aussie Roof Co and walk from there.
Mick Does Stuff thank you
@@sarahtarnay2472 You're welcome.
As a child we lived in Marshall and often played on this

Yeah looked pretty unstable to walk on when I visited 5 years ago.

@@MickDoesStuff I also used to ride my bike across the aqueduct and the Amy used to use it for ab sailing practice
@@trevorjohnston9504 That's pretty cool :)
@@MickDoesStuff it also a good spot for eel fishing
I have seen the Aqueduct from a distance, from time to time for nearly 50 years now I know what it is

I want to check this place out but do you need approval to check it out?

Go to Barwon water on leather st in St Albans park, (end of Kadak PL ) and you can get real close to it……but don’t climb on it. It is very fragile

Yeah absolutely, should be restored and used for some purpose.
