  • In Steven Spielberg's massive blockbuster, paleontologists Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and mathematician Ian Malcolm are among a select group chosen to tour an island theme park populated by dinosaurs created from prehistoric DNA. While the park's mastermind, billionaire John Hammond, assures everyone that the facility is safe, they find out otherwise when various ferocious predators break free and go on the hunt.

20:24 No. No he isn't. 😂 It's just an intentional cut in the movie, the storm happened naturally.
22:00 No, he didn't wanna destroy the park. And yes, he did turn the main(!)-fences off so he could get to the docks as quickly as possible. That's also why the raptor-fences were still on, bc the raptors - as we saw - were inside a stand-alone building, so Dennis had no reason to turn that one off.

Because the movie never explained this but the book did, the trike wasn’t deliberately eating the West Indian Lilac, but was attempting to consume stones and accidentally picking up the poisonous plant. Yep the idea of gentle giants isn't exactly true. Horses kill more people a year in Australia than any croc, sharks, snakes or spiders. Often by people riding them falling off, but people get kicked by them all the time. Hippos kill more than crocs in Africa. Many of the most dangerous animals are herbivorous. Rhinos, Elephants Buffalo, Moose. Any big heavy animals can be extremely dangerous and many of them are territorial and will respond to perceived threats aggressively. Even being in a herd of cows can be dangerous, they use their bulk to knock people over and trample them.

*It doesn't matter how often I've seen Jurassic Park, that scene in the maintenance bunker when the Raptor shows up behind Ellie will always get me with the jumpscare.*
    *Side notes:*
*>The dinosaur sounds in this movie were made by combining sounds made by living animals and everyday objects.*
*>The Tyrannosaurus rex, affectionately known as Rexy, was a mix of elephant calf vocalizations (roar, snarls and growls), with koala, lion & tiger sounds and alligator gurgles thrown in and a dog playing with a rope toy (shaking the Gallimimus to death).*
*>The Dilophosaurus was a mix of hawk, swan, howler monkey and rattlesnake sounds.*
*>The adult Raptors were a mix of a walrus chest roar and male tortoise mating call mixed with a dolphin scream recorded with a hydrophone, while the hatchling was a mix of owlet and fox kit sounds.*
*>The Brachiosaurus vocalizations were slowed down donkey brays, while the sneeze was a mix of an active fire hydrant and a whale breathing through its blowhole(s). (There's an "s" in parentheses because depending on whether or not whales have teeth or baleen plates (think of them as biological water filters) in their mouths, whales have either one or two blowholes)*
*>The Gallimimus's chief sound effect was made using the recorded calls of a mare (female horse) in heat, while their movements were inspired by those of ostriches.*
*A good portion of this movie was shot on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.*
*>Whenever I hear Hammond ask "Who's hungry?", my first reaction every time is "Not after hearing the Raptors rip the cow apart."*

My favorite moment is when you were like "dinosaurs only eat vegetables", and then mentioned the T rex. After literally getting a monologue from Grant about how Velociraptors hunt and then eat you alive. At least the T rex is a short death. Maybe one bite but by the second you are gone. Velociraptors make you fight and flail while your organs are being feasted on. It's FAR worse.
I'm crying . Such great content.
"How fast can a T rex Run." Says the man who watched the first dino scene and the big kicker was that they clocked the T rex at 35. Which made Grant's knees buckle. You were informed. A little thing called foreshadowing to set up that scene. Middle schoolers caught on to it. Because they talked about how fast the jeep was going and, depending on the which gear the Jeep was in, how fast the Jeep would be going and if it was realistic enough. Ah...good ol' manual transmission. The 90's really were great.

The mosquito blood thing isn't possible, because the blood cells would decompose over time, but there have been dinosaur DNA samples of certain species found preserved in glaciers.
It would've made more sense if they used chicken or duck DNA to patch the gaps in the Dino DNA. Grant said in the beginning that dinosaurs are more closely related to modern birds than reptiles.
Female birds have 2 ovaries: one on the right that is fully developed and functions, and one on the left that is an underdeveloped clump of cells that doesn't do anything for most birds. In many birds (including domestic chickens and ducks), if the right, functional ovary dies due to an injury or infection, the left ovary develops into a testes, resulting in a complete sex change including plumage, call, behavior, and even reproduction. It happens surprisingly often with ducks, if you hang around a duck keeping Facebook group long enough, you'll see people complaining about their ducks "going drake". It's generally considered a negative in poultry because males don't lay eggs and they're territorial, so if you end up with too many, they start to fight.
It just would've made so much more sense in the context of the movie and reality.

They legit could have used the same actor though. Think about it. Bit parts, you get one or two lines, and then a non speaking role. Two for the price of one. And this is way before the JW series was even thought of. So having the same actor play both bit parts makes sense. Especially for 1993.

Fun fact about the making of Jurassic Park. When they were filming the T-Rex breaking through the sunroof to get to Tim & Lex, the glass wasn’t meant to fracture and have a big chunk break off. The kids were genuinely terrified. They had a gigantic, realistic T-Rex puppet actually smashing through the glass to “get” them. If the glass had broken completely their hands and feet would have been in the Rex’s mouth. They kept the take because the kid’s reaction was so good, even though it created a small discontinuity with the pane being broken and then not broken

What's crazy is when people are so absolutely stunned that someone hasn't seen a certain movie. There are literally millions of movies out there in the world and not one person on earth has seen them all, even if they are "the most popular" or whatever. Also, if you weren't born in a certain era, these movies are like "vintage" now (anything over 20 years), so you've got to introduce them to generations beyond that, that may not have even been born when they came out.

Hi there, I haven't gotten far into the video as of typing this, but I'm really enjoying your reactions and wanted to answer a couple of your questions! No, it would not be possible to extract dinosaur DNA from a preserved mosquito, as the DNA would have decayed by then. However, it IS possible to "fill in the holes" of DNA with other creatures DNA through gene editing, and this has been done. For instance, there are goats that were genetically engineered to create spiderweb silk in their milk.

9:04 At the time this movie was made it seemed very plausible, people were putting amber in freezers and everything, but it turns out that amber actually destroys DNA. Like, fairly quickly, too. I think they proved that sometime last year.
19:36 Actually, no. In the book (where the guy explains exactly *how* they know the animals don't eat the west indian lilac) it turns out that when they swallow new gastroliths they're hoovering up lilac berries as well by mistake.
21:00 C'mon, guys. No he didn't. That's just dramatic timing.
40:31 Funny story: when they were researching this (I guess?) it turned out that raptor hands were oriented in such a way that they could *not* hold and turn standard door knobs, and so they changed the handles to those lever ones, specifically so that they could have this scene.
