Yeah exactly, Stonehenge and other other big sites like Dover Castle fund the smaller free sites across the the UK

English Heritage site- free entry altho farmer asks for a donation on a gate box.... its not necessary for entry.
Your experience at stonehenge seems very similar to mine at the standing stones of Carnac. While the huge stone fields were very impressive and did leave a very noticable impression on me, it is also fenced off and only accessible on guided tours in the summer, in the winter you're free to step over the fence however.
But there's another stonefield close by that was also partially included in the village, like Avebury. Large part of the stones however are quite hidden in the surrounding forest so you really have to search for some of them. It was an absolutely magical place to me. :)
If you book a tour with the Heritage society, I do believe they let you go in and touch the stones.
Lol I went in 1986 and was 10. The site had what looked like a huge bike gang there at the time so we didn't get to go to touch the stones. It was super cool though. Especially after all the cathedrals we went to. Lol
The funds also go to the upkeep of artifacts & storage. It’s quite sad how underfunded archaeological research is & the entire landscape there is a site under constant threat & exploitation. Somewhere to the southeast is an early Neolithic or late Mesolithic spring where feasting pits were used frequently & objects placed in the water would turn a bright fuchsia, just a few miles away from the main Henge & pre dating it.
I've always been called to go to Stonehenge, and hope to get there in the next few years. I hope that if I book a tour with the Heritage society, they'll allow me to touch the stones. As a Pagan, I feel it's something I absolutely need to do. I ain't gonna travel all the way to England from Canada just to stand there and look at Stonehenge.
The positive is that Stonehenge is that it makes people aware of paganism.

I hope you go to the Eidenberg Castle area. My father during WWI was there. He said hear could actually hear a spirit. He left spirits trying to talk to him. My family was from the area.
Very thoughtful insights from your new friend on energy exchange, we felt similar on the monks mound of Cahokia, it's the most well trafficked place yet it felt quiet compared to the smaller mounds 🤔

I've been to Cahokia many times over the past 28 years. It is a special place. A good friend of mine traveled to Stonehenge and said it was magical
Isn't there a plan to dig a tunnel for the roads passing nearby to hide them? That won't be cheap. It's like a traffic jam round there if you are driving towards Salisbury at the wrong time of day.
Yep, it's going to cost too much, it is going to cause even more disruption.
I went to Stonehenge in 2001st of the visitor center and then took the bus to the stones. I could not walk amongst the stones or touch them, but I did feel energy there, and it was amazing to see how they were constructed how big they were and so forth. I felt there was some spirituality there. It wasn’t as crowded in 2000 as it is now probably. I would like to see Avebury.

I would love to visit there, as well as Glastonbury. I love that there were ancient people, spiritual people, coming together to celebrate life and death in such a unique way.

Have you ever been to Castlerigg stone circle in the north west lakedistrict, It's free and you can walk around them, the scenery that surrounds them is gorgeous. A special place. ☀🌕🌞
I would recommend the book "The Old Stones" which is filled with sites like this.
13:04 a lot of different groups use Avebury for ritual and ceremony. Love the wishing tree (although apparently there has been someone going around and removing the ribbons and wishes that have been attached to the tree 😢)
I can't believe you didn't cover woodhenge, it's not as imprwssive looking and the wooden posts have now been replaced with concrete short posts but you can really get a feel for what it was and what it would've looked like.....its also much much quieter and the "Avenue" leads through woodhenge all the way to Stonehenge.

I think these sites were built by the giants. There were giants there and it just makes sence that they would build such things. My understanding is a lot if these sites were destroyed when their power fell.

Stonehenge IS dead of energy. Some people bring their own and that is what they are feeling when they visit.
£33 a person is absolutely ridiculous!!! When Stonehenge was built, did the people who built it charge or was it free for everyone to enjoy?
The original owners sold it with the intention that people would only be charged a penny to go in. Sadly that did not survive the years.
With all of the people around, particularly because it's not a ritualistic event I would find it very difficult to have a spiritual connection here.
What !!!??? You cant even walk around Stonehenge 😢??? Why dont they add a paved circle around Stonehenge, so people could walk around it ??!! I get that you cant walk around it on the grass area, it will trash they grass and cause damage . But if it was paved path it should be a no brainer 🙄 sad to see you cant walk around it. 🙄
This ancient monument is part of a very large and mainly unseen temple, there should not too many modern day changes to the temple. Really one should take off our shoes when inside the temple. It’s not just a tourist attraction it is still a temple in use. It is free to visit on the holy days, many druids go there on holy days but they just look like tourists, there is no uniform. There are many temples not only in Europe but also in Africa and most parts of the world. Go there and enjoy your visit it’s a place of our ancestors for all people.
Visited last year twice. We did pay extra to go inside the stones and walking around shoeless I definitely felt the spiritual energy of the stones and space.
The last person that privately owned Stonehenge, donated it to the country in 1918, on the condition that the government would never charge more than a shilling to see it. So basically free. Somebody lost the memo.
I had my handfasting at woodhenge which is just 5 minutes down the road from Stonehenge and free to visit. I keep meaning to attend solstice at Stonehenge but I just never get round to it and end up doing a little something at home instead.
The price is ridiculous to visit Stonehenge nowadays so I don't visit.
Is the woodhenge the same as the one called...I think Avenbury? Or is it something much closer?
@CreedsofYore woodhenge is much closer to stonehenge than avebury is, it just doesn't have the big stones.
What a sad state of affairs, 30 pounds! Has as taste of Disneyworld now associated with it. This is a turn off for a number of reasons. Reminds me when in the past I went into churches to light a candle and they post a sign, $5 to light a candle. How do they know that my prayer is even worth $5 or $500? Stonehenge is now a commercial enterprise. I’ll take my home altar any day.

Isnt there other stone circles in England older than Stonehenge? I hear the other sites are underated .
Yeah Stonehenge is relatively “new”. The oldest sites are actually in the north.
I would highly recommend Avebury
