When I was a child you could walk amongst the stones, touch them, climb up on the alter stone & play on it, act being ancient worshippers. I don't think you had to pay. I seem to remember a little wooden hut where they sold postcards. Salisbury Plain was en route for Grannys house so we stopped there at varying times of day or night & in varied weather conditions. Freer times.

Stonehenge was the culmination of centuries of building on Salisbury Plain. What amazes me is sheer amount of large stone circles built around the same time right across Europe, forget the manpower involved, what motivated people to build them, why, is the biggest question. Theories abound but answers are harder to find! 🇬🇧

  • @andreasa8486

Stonehenge is really grand and important piece of history, but why is it left outside like this? Outside, in the fields, under nature's mercy! Not to mention how every year people can just go there and touch the stones without anyone in charge? Shouldn't the real Stonehenge been kept in a museum and replace them with replicas? The British museum perhaps? They keep the Parthenon Marbles there, (2000 miles away from their home) for that exact same reason. So they won't be destroyed from pollution or erosion etc. Does the British Government care more about Greece's history and culture than their own?
P.S. Great video and very informative, thank you Chris!

I'm from Northern Minnesota, up by the Canadian border where wolves and bears abound and there is enough snow to make SNOWHENGE whuch we have done and ut gets a lot of attention. Not as much as STONEHENGE does, but hey at least it's something.

Looking at the photos of Stonehenge, I think that this is not a sundial or structure for astronomical observations. This is the remnant of a huge building from which only the most durable elements of the structure have survived. Imagine a huge wooden building with a roof that is gigantic for those prehistoric times, something like a stadium at that time, supported by appropriate, perhaps too massive but necessary, stone supports. Humanity has always been fascinated by gigantic structures like the Egyptian pyramids, which were to bear witness to greatness and strength. In summary, it is a remnant of a great structure whose wooden or other non-durable elements have decayed.

Stonehenge is 265,000 years old +/- 1200 years, the outer ring of stones precisely predicted Lunastices, major lunar standstill extremes of the moon's orbit that occur every 18.6 years. This is important, and the reason Stonehenge was built, because during Grand Solar Minimum (GSM) with magnetic reversal (loss of Earth's protective field) Earth crust deformations take place resulting in new "True North" locations (5 across Greenland in the past 300,000 years). Stonehenge was built at higher latitude 61.3 degrees, where the inner stones precisely align with solstices and equinoxes. For mathematical proof TH-cam Mario Buildreps channel search "Stonehenge Mystery Solved." Search TH-cam "Sun Dagger Explorer" for Chaco Canyon, New Mexico Observatory that also tracks Lunastices, when the earthquakes, tsunamis and Earth crust deformations take place (GSM). Cosmic ray flux heats high silica magma, the only time (GSM) the big cone volcanoes erupt VEI 6 and above. At major lunar standstill Earth's Moon is 5.3 degrees out of alignment with Earth's rotation, causing brief acceleration and then deceleration perturbing the crust movement that freezes into a new true north at end of GSM.
