The Great British Adventure is back! What’s been your favourite so far? Also, this is the first video with the hidden Tapir easter egg (although this one is super easy - expect it to get harder!)
When I was a child you could walk amongst the stones, touch them, climb up on the alter stone & play on it, act being ancient worshippers. I don't think you had to pay. I seem to remember a little wooden hut where they sold postcards. Salisbury Plain was en route for Grannys house so we stopped there at varying times of day or night & in varied weather conditions. Freer times.
Honestly, experiencing this event has to be one of the most fulfilling things you can do in your life. You've got the time, the anticipation, the environment, the history and sense of achievement. I think I'm really going to have to start a bucket list
I visited Stonehenge for the first time last year, as the last stop on a road trip I took from London to the Lakes District to Snowdonia in Whales and back to London. I was honestly surprised at how awestruck I was by Stonehenge, given that it's such a "tourist attraction." It's simply a spectacular site. (Awesome video, as usual too!)
I was able to witness the winter solstice sunset at the Drombeg stone circle in County Cork. Not nearly as big, but really cool to walk around it with only a small crowd of people. It had a great view of the sea, too.
I just learned 5 minutes ago that Stonehenge was more adjusted/aligned to winter solstice sunset than summer solstice sunrise. It make sense since sun worship in the north west of Europe was common (later) at winter solstice. That’s also the date “stolen“ by Christianity to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
I've been blessed to attend Summer Soltice at Stonehenge three times in my life, and it is one of the most magical experiences ever. From people in their Eighties, to small kids. It's a wonderful place to be on the Solstice.
I started the video then stopped to hang out with my sister, and in surprised that that over like 3 hours it didn't get over 1,500. The amount of of work you put in and time you spend to make these deserves millions. Great work as always and keep spreading joy.
From knowing the summer solstice, someone could start counting and, remembering frost and freeze from previous years, decide the best days to plant ... the best days to harvest. STILL crucial for agriculture. Retired librarian, Michigan
Wow, mate - thanks for a wonderful video!! I've been to Salisbury and Stonehenge å dra years back. But being here on the soltice is just too cool. I am nearly envious and thanks to YOU, I'm so inspired to go there again, but then on June 21st 👍😊
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoy them! I love when people go back and watch my older videos - a lot of them get buried when I've but a lot of effort into every single one, so thanks! :)
I love your channel! You always make me happy :3 for the past few weeks My brothers have been having finals and I am very stressed, watching your videos gets a laugh out of me and calms me down :3 :D

Thank you for britghting up my day with this llovely video! UK is definitely my favorite country, and I'm actually planning a road trip in the Cornwall because of your Great British Adventrure series
Great video and a super addictive channel! Great job, I’ve been hooked on watching your videos for some time now, and I’m so happy every time I see a new one😍 Keep up the good work with this great content and stop motion style :))
That's really cool. New Zealand just had it's winter solstice, being in the Southern hemisphere. Our tradition (for some) is to have a mid-winter "christmas" dinner.
Interesting stuff. Thanks! I knew most of the story already and once walked among the stones but I'm glad to hear that the young are still interested. Cheers.
2:57 they believes that they transport that from wales to Anglo-Saxon England using a rolling chunks of tree woods and they hammered by stone hammer too
I went to stonehenge ( from NYC) in 1972 and i didn’t know how lucky i was. There were no barriers then, and you just walked up to the stones and touched them and took pictures.
Wonderful video Chris! It must have been an incredible experience. While you hippies were enjoying your shortest night, we were nicely tucked in bed having our longest.
Stonehenge was the culmination of centuries of building on Salisbury Plain. What amazes me is sheer amount of large stone circles built around the same time right across Europe, forget the manpower involved, what motivated people to build them, why, is the biggest question. Theories abound but answers are harder to find! 🇬🇧
@robertewalt7789 I didn't know that, thanks. Can you please give me more info, for example, which State/s as I'd like to research this further. Thanks.
@@robwalker7575 I saw this discussed in a course “Ancient Civilizations of North America,” presented on Great Courses Plus, formerly Wondrium. Unfortunately this is a pay site, but I think it is well worth the cost. The presenter is Dr. Edwin Barnhart, at the time of the course with Maya Exploration Center. we would always drive past it when visiting family in Somerset, and my mum always tells me how when she was young you were able to climb on them, whereas now there are massive barriers around it, and I think they charge you to see it. I'm very jealous of her hahah
It's unfortunate - they have very expensive and limited tours in the early mornings where you can go in the circle but you're not allowed to touch any of them and it sells out about 6 months in advance. But the summer solstice is free and you can touch the stones (Same with the winter solstice)
Less than 30 seconds in, and you've mentioned the Summer Solstice. Stonehenge was built to celebrate the *Winter* Solstice. Back in the 70s, anyone could get right up to the stones, any time of year, for free. I stopped going when they fenced it off and started charging people to look at it.
Thanks Chris. That was so neat to see and so informative. I learned a lot! :) And weren't the sheep adorable! :) The photography of the sun rising was really beautiful. :)
Great film Chris. I am old enough to have experienced Stonehenge as a young lad in the 60s with my parents before the ghastly up their arses English Heritage tried to claim copyright on these ancient stones and stop us enjoying them. My Dad took loads of black and white pics of me and mum sitting on the stones. They don't need to be over protected in this heavy handed way - free the stones!! Thanks

You're right, it was a real bucket list item. You should definitely visit one year! :)
Didn’t know you could find wild baby tapirs in Wiltshire.

Fun fact: Stonehenge was built at roughly the same time as the Pyramids of Giza.
Wow. Giza is a wondrous monument and Stonehenge is a bunch of stones stacked neatly lol
Leorion the pyramids are built simpler than Stonehenge
Giza had logs to roll bricks on while much heavier stones were transported in an unknown way
To Know "his-story" is the base of everythink. Great video but misleading informations. ☺☺
Maybe it was the same aliens who did the Pyramids XD
Egypt had a relatively large and complex society at the time, while Britain was still in the stone age with a few small loosely connected tribes.

It's a little known fact that the same general contractor built both the pyramids and Stonehenge, and then years later Yankee Stadium.
But those weren’t all build in the span of 1 lifetime.
I went twice for the summer solstice, three times for the spring equinox and one for the autumn equinox ceremony/gathering.
