    I think it was better if you did the front locker test with the same car. But I also agree that front locker is much more useful than rear locker for climbing rock steps. With the rear locker you'll be only be pushed side to side, especially in muddy conditions.

  • @willreed6231

    Few thoughts here,
    With the front locker engaged you still
    Have the lsd in the back helping it along. With a rear locker you only have an open in the front.
    But I always kinda thought whilst climbing you have all the weight at the rear so why not have that locked up? And while going down a sketchy hill you can lock the rear Diff and it’ll keep the rear end striaght and stop it sliding around under compression...In saying all that I’ve got a auto locker from and lsd rear combo in me gu and it’s mint lol

      You forget that a Toyota doesn't have a working rear LSD. We Patrol owners are accustomed to being able to go most places with just a front autolocker and the working LSD. Going down sketchy hills in the Patrol it's best to use the handbrake for rotation control of all 4 wheels. I sometimes wonder if a rear locker would be worth the cost for my Patrol, but never needed one. Putting the cost towards portals would be better :)

    Here’s a good tip if u have an lsd rear diff get a front locker the lsd kind of acts like a locker but if u have an ifs vehicle I recommend getting a front locker because your not likely to loft your front wheels then u are to loft your rear wheels so front locker first in any car I think personally

  • @Gowieee
    @Gowieee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Front locker with rear LSD is the preference. Remember with a rear locker you have an open diff prior to locking so you’ll constantly be locking the rear.

    Does the auto locker click if say? your hubs are locked in but the transfer is in 2wd, like in a modern IFS ute?

    • @Steel6Strings
      @Steel6Strings 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes they will do, so long as the CV shafts are spinning. But they should unlock easier because you don't have driven power forcing the locker to lock up harder.

  • @craki06
    @craki06 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the first test you did on the flat ground with the opposing holes the lockers are equally as effective, up sand and maybe mud hills where you need constant power and momentum I think a rear will help you more because that’s where more weight will be and I think slower or shorter obstacles a front can help you more because it can then help pull the vehicle over the obstacle. But that all depends on the car and especially the wheel base imo
