Anyone that is this dedicated to his dog has my outmost respect and is obviously an outstanding human being.

Great interview and a very interesting man. One thing all great shooters have in common is a lot of confidence along with a healthy dose of humility. Thank you Erik and Steve for being will to share even the nuances of your craft.

I owe much to Steve, he and his flair for competition are missed, hope to see him at Southbay before he departs Komifornia.

Erik, I was wondering when you were going to get to ask Steve about the name " Sleepy Gator " pretty funny,
now that man had led a full life, seventy years young !!

That's my Gun Club, Santa Margarita Gun Club,
Stevens record will never be broken as we (SMGC) don't shoot on 117 anymore. the USMC built to many other ranges behind the butts and now there is to much risk for anything bigger than 308 on that range according to Long rifle (Base Range control) in the hands of civilians. Marines can still shoot 300 win mag on that range. As to everything being wrong with that range. Steven is correct. The range faces 197 degrees and is only 6 miles inland through a narrow valley. On shore wind bounces through the valley and up and over a small hill to the south of the butts creating a nasty 1:30-2:00 head wind that starts at 12 mph and typically ramps up to 18 plus. There are firing point berms at 100, 300, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, and 1000 these berms create turbulence and unexpected elevation shifts in your shooting. The wind is so bad I've seen the range with flags on every berm pointed dead level in a different direction.

This series of interviews have been excellent, apart from this one. At least I know all about Blair’s career though 😴
