I love the three different interpretations of through the box "and everything in it". I interpreted it the same way as Alan, with everything in it the box. The way the girls did it seems to be the way they expected, pushing the pipe through every individual item that was in the box individually. And then there was Guz' wonderful interpretation of pushing the pipe through the box with everything in it the pipe!
"Get the pipe through the box and everything in it" What is "it" in this case? The pipe or the box? I would argue that it can be interpreted as either one. If it's the pipe, then the sentence can be read as "Get the pipe and everything in it through the box". Just the empty pipe would suffice. I'm not a native speaker.

I’ve watched this task (well, I’ve watched every task) multiple times and I still pick up on new things. Sliding a ring of sponge around a drainpipe causes Victoria to ask Alex “Are you finding this erotic?” You really do see a deep glimpse of every contestant’s mind on this show lol.

I think that Greg was willing to let that sort of technicality be swept under the rug since it could not have made much difference at this stage. I think the problem was the formulation because in my opinion Alan did it right as well. Technically, he put the pipe through the box and everything in it. Because the box had everything still in it and he put the pipe through that box. Maybe the better formulation for his attempt would have been: "ut the pipe through the box with everything in it" ... But it is confusing. Also another question would be: what does the word *it" refer to, when it says "put the pipe through the box and everything in it". Does that mean I could put everything from the box into the pipe and just push the pipe through the empty box? Because technically the "it" could refer to either the box or the pipe in each of the sentences. In the mentioned example the "it" would refer to the things in the pipe ... I am even more confused and I think the language on this one should be specified or serve as an example for why people understand literature and texts generally differently.
That task should have been written like "get the pipe through the box and EACH ITEM in it...", otherwise I think Alan was the only one who did it correctly
I think the point is that it's linguistically ambiguous. That way there's multiple solutions which is more interesting. Your way is more explicitly defined but also more boring and this is a TV show not a university entrance exam.

But if you think of “everything in the box” as a unit, if the pipe is being fed through a collective group of the items lumped inside the box, it is still going through “everything in the box.”
I would always go pipe through things first, just because you would need to destroy a lot of the items to get them through the tube. I love Victoria, but I would hardly call sliding two half’s of a sponge down a pipe “getting the pipe through the sponge”
I would suggest that Alan did put the pipe through the box (and everything in it) as it looked like everything was still in the box when he put the pipe through it But I might have missed something.

It's quite simple really. Get the pipe through the box - Empty the box, push the pipe through it. And everything in it - Get everything, including the box in the pipe. Then get the box and everything in it through the pipe - its already in there, push it through. Or Get the box and everything in it through the box - simple enough, push it all through the pipe. Then get the pipe through the box - get it through the box. And everything in it - get everything in the pipe again.
Why did no one put everything in the stockings to make it a long sausage that could theoretically push itself through the pipe? Am I the only one thinking this? If the stockings were footless, just tie the foot in a knot like you would a balloon. You'd still have to break up the sponge & all that jazz, but once it's all in the stockings, it's just one long object to push through. 🤷

Haven't seen the full task, just this clip so i' just guessing. Two things…firstly he didn't do the tasks in the stated order and secondly, i noticed when he was "done" there was still a piece of the cardboard box inside the tube.
It’s a shame that we have to rely of correct verbal interpretation for this task and the ring the bell with five different negatives. Feels like a better solution would be to post the task on the bottom of the screen during the task attempts.
Allan got "the pipe" through "the box and everything in it". The task wasn't worded "through the box and through everything in it", so that ambiguity works in Allan's favour here. He clearly understood it as the former and shouldn't be punished for the tasks bad wording.

This task was probably my least favourite of series 12. It just felt needly complicated and not particularly entertaining. There were definitely some bangers that series too 🎈

The key is the wording. If it said "with everything in it" then your interpretation would be correct. However it said "and".
