- This video is about how to set idle rpm in a motorcycle. I explained it on Apache RTR 200. Idling rpm has a major role in fuel efficiency and also smooth operation of engine. Most single cylinder engines' ideal idling rpm is 1500. Higher idling rpm will reduce fuel efficiency but Lower than the recommended rpm will cause starting problems. Hope this small information will be helpful to you.

Hi ajith. Your videos are good and more informative. 5 days before i bought 200 4v. Sadly i got tappet noise from head. Due to new bike restrictions i rode it around 50KM speed max. Once the engine get heat slight tappet noise is occur. I asked showroom people, they opened head cape and did some adjustments. Now the noise get arrested. But still i had doubt weather its acceptable or should i ask for replacement?

Don't worry, it's normal. If now there's no noise then they have adjusted the tappet clearance correctly. You are good to go👍🏻

Sir, how does increasing idle rpm affects fuel efficiency? Idle rpm is the rpm when the bike is either at neutral or when the accelerator is not powered. There will be change in our efficiency only if u stop the bike with the Engine powered ON for a long time. While riding the rpm will be based on the rev of accelerator so there is no connection with fuel efficiency. Right? Correct me if I'm wrong. Always ready to learn☺️
I will tell the difference, if you set your idle rpm at 2 and then start riding, you will notice whenever you apply brake, your rpm will not reduce itself to 2 rpm instead it will remain at 3 or 4 rpm which ultimately will use petrol and I myself has tested this theory of setting rpm at 1.5 or 1.6 it actually does increase fuel efficiency 😊

I am not sure, but if you have a SCREW JUST LIKE THIS it must be the idle adjuster. We are opening or closing a butterfly throttle valve slightly, by adjusting this.

Please suggest help full something.
Top end varies with opposite wind and tail wind conditions. If opposite wind is not the case then you should redo the carb tuning and try changing that air filter and spark plug. Also try changing the engine oil to a better one like motul 7100
What about efi ?
My Engine rpm is not starting until i give throttle.....i think mechanic had done some mistake after servicing the bike during carburettor cleaning

What is the ideal rpm for apache rtr 160? Actually my bike is turning off many times when speed got decreased or when there is a speed breaker . So, i rotate the screw clockwise as per mentioned by you in video...now when i start the ignition button it's showing 1.2 something rpm in resting State.....

Check whether the flow is from reserve or ON position. It's affects.

I am pretty new in biking what I see is often when I start My bike the idle rpm becomes higher and then after riding a bit slowly it comes at 1900 rpm where as initially it remains at 2200 or even 2300 rpm. I am really confused and I want to to keep it at 1600 rpm fixed to improve mileage. Is My scenario possible . help would be appreciated . My bike is rtr1604v.
If it is bs6 then rpm would be controlled by ECU and nothing can be done from your end. It is design by default

No, I haven't encountered any battery issue. It may be some kind of short circuit which caused the battery to drain. Have you got any aftermarket electrical installation done to your bike?
No i dint put any extra light or modefication i heard from many ppl tht rtr200 have bettry issue in new bike also my rtr is 2k17 model
Ok, then it may be the fault of the wiring itself. If not a short circuit then should check the charging system.
Bro rpm increasing after some time from 1500rpm to 2000rpm .....it's a new bike just completed 300km...any problems?
It's not a problem brother, but it means your idle RPM is 2000 when the engine is in operating temperature. You should adjust it to 1500 when the engine is in that temperature. But when you cold start it, it would be around 1000-1200. No problem. Use choke to start. It will get better by more kms on the odo.
Hi, Ajith. I bought the RTR 200 4v recently. I am having an issue with finding the right tuning of the idle RPM. I see that if the RPM is increased, then sometimes when stopped (like at junctions or traffic lights), the engine begins to rev by itself even if I am not throttling it (stabilizing at something like 2500 to 3000 rpm). Because of this, the service center guys reduced the idle rpm, but after that I have noticed that the engine is stalling very frequently, even when in motion at some speed. Do we have to keep tinkering with the knob every time we ride?
Hi Rahul Nair, I think the carb tuning (not idle screw tuning) is not proper. First get it tuned by a good outside mechanic. If the problem still persists then dismantle the carb and check for holes in diaphragm. In CV carbs Venturi valve is opened by a diaphragm which is controlled by airflow. So if that diaphragm has any small holes the rpm will be irregular. These are the first steps and if the problem is still there then we should think about other possibilities.
All check whether the choke is turned ON. If the choke is in ON, the bike will move on it's without rev. ☺️
New apache has a feature of glide through traffic its not a problem
Keep the idle in 1200 rpm in cold engine others no problem
Engine is stalking because the rpm goes under 900 at slower speed

I don't know why my rtr 200 abs's ignition coil is getting malfunction off again n again. When I put bike in gear it is giving problem with lot of fluctuations in power . We can observe these fluctuations on digital meter as well

What is the crusing speed of the bike?
Shariff, Cruising speed is the maximum speed where the engine and bike is comfortable with. For RTR I think it's 90 - 100 kmph.

I did the same ...Made it like 1500 rpm..it makes sound when I shift to 1st gear ....Then again I reduced to 1000rpm..No more sound..Why it is like that??

Engine poore hot hone par 4000rpm hota he na, us samay screw rotate karke rpm ko Kam karke 2000rpm me laavo. Bike 300-400km hone ke bad rpm aur kam karke 1500 pe set karna he. Subah choke lagake start karo. Hope it helps bro👍🏻

1) But the manual suggests 1000RPM .....
2) When I cold start my Apache 200, it goes dead when I put it in the first gear even after keeping on the choke for 3-4 minutes and there will be a bad sound when first gear is engaged. So, to get going, I have to open clutch at nearly 5k RPM. This problem doesn't repeat later in the day.
I have done 1100 kms in 1.5 months and first service is over. Service guys have no idea of the problem. Any from you?
Hi bro, May be some clutch problem. Sounds like the clutch plates are not freeing up properly when applying. Manual suggests 1500 rpm +/- 100 rpm. In 1000 rpm the engine will die😊 check the manual once again..

Hi Sachin, you can now ride up to 100kmph/7000rpm occasionally. And keep your regular speed below 75kmph/5500rpm until you complete 1000kms. After that you can ride faster..

A proper carb tuning, oil, plug and air filter change and chain maintenance will help extract maximum power it has. Do you mean more power than the factory setup?

What should b the rpm when we start the bike for the first time?
It needs minimum 1000RPM to idle. But that's not important, the RPM should be around 1500 when it's on 'operating temperature'. If it's cold then use choke to increase the RPM for a couple of seconds.
