    Crazy how I am a final year mechanical engineering student and this video taught me more about how to set up a project file correctly and use templates efficiently than my university degree ever did. Thanks.

    Thanks Neil. I got volunteered to create ours about 10 years ago and muddled my way through. ( With all the auto populate stuff )
    I needed to refresh my memory. After watching this I feel more confident. I wish this had been available last time. I'm going to watch your " Styles " video next. Thanks. Jim

    Neil, simply: thank you. This was incredibly easy to follow. Thankfully, much, if not all, of Inventor 2016 still applies to Inventor 2019! and .idw still exists haha
    Until a month ago, I was only fluent with SW. I have subscribed to learn more about Inventor as my new position only uses Autodesk.

    NEIL, THANKS A BILLION FOR YOUR SUPER-DEPTH VIDEOS!!! I LOVED YOUR QUICKSTART TUTORIALS (WITH THE GO KART), I EVEN SAVED THEM TO MY HARD DRIVE AND I REWATCH THEM EVERY TIME I PICK UP WORK WITH INVENTOR.

    I already create my own drawing template before I find out this video. This is a very good video because many important points are highlighted to avoid us going for wrong steps during the creation process. One point I wish to add in is: the title block (not the border) we should create follow standard, for e.g. ISO7200 for my case.

  • @TheosEpicVideos

    I went and edited in AutoCAD. Saved the drawing separately and then I use that as my template now.
    However, new sheet doesn't copy over the AutoCAD blocks unless I click on the template sheet.
    It's strange.
    Might go back and create a full Inventor title block after my current project.

    I am having trouble fixing a small "sketch logo" on the top left corner of the border, if I change the sheet size it keep moving up or down, like it is keeping its distance from the bottom corner. If i dimension it to the upper corner to keep in position it moves anyway and it changes the dimension value, or it doesnt let me change the sheet size. Any ideas?

    After watching your video, everything has worked out just perfect. Thanks a lot! There is one more thing: Is there a way to implement the thickness of sheet metal of my part in the textbox?

    • @manjinderdhillon
      @manjinderdhillon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may already have the solution by now. But it can be done. You have to automate the iproperty field of the part. For example, under iproperties panel you can automate a filed called stock number and type this =. It will spit the sheet thickness in the field. You can then find the same "Sheet metal rule" property in the properties panel on the drawing like shown in the video. It will display the sheet metal thickness when you bring any sheet metal part in the drawing.

    If I would like to have different margin and binding edge pending on the sheet format (A4, A3, A1 etc.) is it still possible to use only one scalable border or do I then need to create 1 border template per sheet format? I am looking at something like this (as per cad drawing standard NORSOK Z-005):
    Format | Sheet size (mm) | Margin (mm) | Binding edge (mm)
    A4 | 210x297 | 10 | 15
    A3 | 297x420 | 10 | 15
    A2 | 420x594 | 14 | 21
    A1 | 594x841 | 20 | 30
    A0 | 841x1189 | 28 | 42
    Many thanks!

    Prior solidworks user here... Is there a way to create a 2nd block on the same page? We would have our revision block in the upper right, and the main title block in the lower right. Because Inventor auto aligns the blocks... I am unsure how to do this.

    • @jefferyjjensen
      @jefferyjjensen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello K G, I think you are asking about having multiple connection points on a border. In your case you want a upper right connection point defined on the border when inserting the revision block. Then have a second connection point at the lower right corner of the border - then insert the title block to snap to lower right corner. See Autodesk Inventor 2023 Help - To Work with Drawing Borders help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2023/ENU/?guid=GUID-785912A6-CB47-4496-A856-18584D5B0037
      Seems the Inventor designers attempted to make it simple to insert title blocks but in my opinion, it is difficult with the vague documentation how it is done.

    I see that we can link our Border to whatever sheet size we choose to use, BUT...is it possible to link the Title Block to whatever sheet size I pick AND for it to scale up as the sheet size increases?
    You see...in my workplace, we only print in letter size (Size A) and the boss prefers for me to place my drawings (parts) to their original scale (1:1) but of course most of the time these will overlap the size A sheet, and then I'd pick a bigger more appropriate sheet size and it'll fit, but then my title block shrinks and my dimensions are too small and same for the text....so yeah....that's my dilemma :'(
    P.s. I was watching videos on iLogic rules and parameters for this issue....but it is not clear to me if the people who made the video had already created different title blocks and borders for different sheet sizes...

Recently I made a custom DWG template (I've done some in the past few years), but out of nothing, Inventor takes years to open them.
